What’s happened to my Sundance?
I hope somebody can tell me.
Well, something’s chomping on it!
Maybe vine weevil, they eat from the edge?
Or have you seen any of those little green capsid bugs?
I haven’t seen any bugs or insects at all.
It was one of my favourite plants. I want to cure it if I can…
Might be just the cold weather and some baby slugs .
Carol, I dont know much about this particular shrub as I have never grown them.
You wont usually see any bugs on it if it is Vine weeval, because the grubs hatch and live down in the soil, chomping away on the roots until the plant dies. It is the adult weevals who munch the leaves then lay the eggs.
Also, have you turned the leaves over and looked on the underside for bugs?
You dont say whether yours is in the ground, or planted in a pot? If it is potted, how long has it been in the same pot?
Do you ever change the top couple of inches of soil with fresh compost?
Is it pot bound perhaps?
If it is in a tub, I would definitely start by tipping it out, checking through the root system for white maggoty looking grubs, then giving it some nice fresh compost with a little feed mixed in.
I also understand you can over water these and that can turn the leaves yellow and rot.
Is it raised up off the floor on pot feet?
Has it got adequate drainage?
There’s a few things to explore for starters.
It’s in a lovely big pot, plenty of room for the roots, good drainage etc. It was doing brilliantly and looking beautiful & healthy until a few days ago when I notice this.
I’ll go with the Vine weeval theory. Thank you ladies.
I’ve just ordered the appropriate product off Amazon.
