Hello from Southern California

New here. Joined yesterday. My name is Mariska and I will turn 51 this year’s March. Born in the Netherlands, married in the Netherlands, moved to the USA in 2008, I now live in Southern California with my husband and two poodles (a standard and a mini). I never grew up having dogs, due to allergies. I had to turn 45 to find out that I could be in a room with a poodle without having the usual allergic symptoms. So my dogs are special to me. I take my mini to agility twice a week. I groom my own dogs (although, that does make me sneeze a bit). Not in the traditional poodle cut though; I’m a lazy brusher  Further more I like to draw, paint, photograph, cook, and bake (not necessarily in that order).
My forum name was born because most of the time my actual name is already taken. So at some point I came up with this anagram. And it has been MrsKaia ever since. Looking forward to chatting with you. You seem like a very friendly bunch

Hello Mariska  a very warm welcome to the forum…

Hello Mariska and a very warm welcome to you.

Hi Mariska and welcome from me too

Good morning Mariska darlin’ or should that be: Zdrasvicha ??? and welcome.

Welcome to you Mariska. Hope you enjoy your time on here.
Pity it took you so many years to find out that Poodles have fur
and not hair which makes them virtually non allergic. Sure
you love them more now.
UJ I did some Dutch years ago when I lived there, but never saw a word of Zdrasvicha?

To Mariska Tot sinds

Sandy darlin’ - with a name like Mariska, notwithstanding her Dutch origin, it is possible that her predessors are or were Russian and therefore Zdrasvicha is the Russian form of ‘Hello’.

Sorry, nothing exciting like Russian ancestors in my ancestor tree. My mom just thought Mariska was a nice name. I was told the origin of the name is Hungarian. The only non-Dutch blood I have comes from Belgium, on my dad’s side, but that dates way back to somewhere in the late 1600’s and early 1700’s. Dutch ‘hello’ is a boring ‘hallo’, or ‘hoi’, with ‘hoi’ being informal.

@BowieEyes: Where did you live in the Netherlands?

Hi Mariska, your Mum was right Mariska is a nice name. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome MrsKaia

Hope you’re enjoying yourself?

Hello newbies, and welcome to you all.

I don’t normally visit this part of the board but usually try (emphasis on try) to welcome the newbies if I see a post from you and I’m responding to the thread.

Hope you have fun here.

Hi Mariska

Hope you have settled in now. I went to Gouda and then got a job in Amsterdam as a Nanny for two little girls. I lived on the Weesperzijde
by the River Amstel for a year, then went home to Leeds, Yorkshire.
The two little ones taught me Dutch and so did Mevrouw. They were little devils and my first words they taught me were poop op de stoop.:wink:
