Funny you should mention witches–I was born and lived in my formative years at Roughlee Old Hall in the village of Roughlee which was the home of Alice Nutter before she was hanged as a witch at Lancaster Castle.
I did the annual Rossendale Round The Hills walk a few times when I was a fair bit younger and fitter.
That is only 18 miles but it has some superb views.
Hello, nice to meet you - hope you enjoy the forum. I live just down the road from you in the home of Chorley cakes and the cattle market-or flat iron as its now called!
Thank you, and nice to meet you as well. You’re not far away from me at all. The company I work for does a great deal of electrical work for Chorley Council - not the houses though.
I’m already enjoying the forum and chatting to the lovely folk here.
Hiya Mollie-I worked at Chorley Council, or Chorley Borough Council as it was known then, and took early retirement and voluntary redundancy 12 years ago-worked there for about 30 years-small world isn’t it!
I’ve worked at my current place of employment for coming up to 28 years so there’s a chance you’ll have known a few people I dealt with, such as Jack Neary and a few others, which I’d best not mention on the forum as they may still be around.
It’s split down now between Liberata and Chorley Housing, and we do work for both. As you say, it’s a small world.
I worked in the Housing Department Mollie, and I remember Jack Neary very well, and most likely others that you have dealt with. Don’t think I would know many people who are there now though.
No lass, it’s changed an awful lot. Jack was an absolute gentleman, a darling man.
It’s nice to know that there’s someone on here in my part of the world and with something in common, albeit from a work point of view. Who knows, I may even have spoken to you on the phone at some point over the last 20 odd years!
