Having a rubbish skip

I had an old aunt who died suddenly.I was left with the arrangements and hired someone who cleared the whole house except for a few treasured items she had promised people. They took everything else including the toilet paper from the holder.

Sorry for the slight off topic, but thanks for posting that. Iā€™m always reading stories of people who are so mad because they have to clean out a familyā€™s house and the family member kept a lot of stuff.

Why bother? Just hire someone to haul it all away. Then no need to be mad.

Off topic here too. Clearing house.
Just owing to circumstances I had accumulated huge files of documentation in my previous house. Since then in my present house from a couple of years ago I shredded huge - council bins full of it. We now have a cluttered life style in our old age.

Hi

I have had two since moving here 3 years ago.

I am about to have another as I am still emptying the storage unit.

Just getting a house clearance firm in is not good, they make a fortune from many hidden treasures.

Somethings I sell, others to charity shops, the skip gets the rest.

The house and contents is going to my son. I do not intend to leave him a mess.

its a bit cheeky coming onto your property but Iā€™d be pleased someone got some use out of my old rubbish.

I wouldnt stress about it ā€¦I would be too busy looking what else I could put in it to fill it up and get full use of itā€¦as others have said they are so expensive.

I also think itā€™s cheaper to get someone to haul it all away, not sure though, Iā€™ve had a mountain of stuff ,that I had to get rid of from the garden,Ā£40 it cost me to remove it all.

If I were doing a house clearance then that is what I would do. However, I was sorting out my shed and garage and so my son helped me and a skip was the best idea because we could put stuff into it as we sorted out - not everything needed to go.

Hi

Where they licensed or did they illegally tip it?

I think the ā€œSkip Dippersā€ were very thoughtful and courteous, not knocking on your door and asking permission at that unearthly hour. :grinning: :biking_man:

Thereā€™s always a positive in everything isnā€™t there?!

I must admit I canā€™t see the problem with people taking stuff out of skips or any rubbish collection. Good on 'em, saves on landfill

Wollongong City Council has two free clean up collections (max 2 cubic metres each) for every resident each year, I have often put out stuff and by the time the council truck arrived there was virtually nothing left - fine by me.

A very long time ago when I lived in Brixton the council used to put a large skip in the street every so often for residents to dump things like fridges etc, one morning there was a car in it, how they got it in I have no idea.

I can help it, itā€™s the way my mind worksā€¦ā€¦

Every time I read the title of this thread I think you are telling us you are just rubbish at skipping, (the skipping rope kind)

And I picture you trying and having a rubbish skipā€¦ā€¦

Iā€™m rubbish at skipping too Maree! So the title covers both areas ā€¦

My mind says the actual Skip was rubbish, that is always the case, never ever received a pristine Skip.
