Have you thought about end-of-life decisions?

Hi

A word of advice from me.

I have everything organised, cremation paid for, disposal of ashes , will, etc etc.

Everything down to the last detail of passwords and PINS.

The folder was upstairs, then the fire, now just a pile of ashes.

Main thing is make sure everything is in a fire proof box,

Good advice Swim.
Does a daughter count as a fire proof box?
She knows more about me than I do…

I think it worth noting that the discourse has moved into the decisions that follow after life has ended. I thought end of life decisions were more about how one ended one’s life. Let an illness follow its course, or actively act to accelerate the end of life event, or try to avoid suffering (of oneself and of one’s loved ones).
I think we are avoiding such a chat by talking about where we want our ashes placed.

Difficult to say what you would do until the pain gets unbearable, some people have a higher tolerance of pain and a love of life than others. Unwise to make any decision until you have to.

That is a good observation, however perhaps one might prepare options in advance. The other side not knowing what you would do until the pain gets too bad is that you might not be able to do anything once you reach that point. The lack of prepared options means you might end up with a care team trying to keep you alive when perhaps that wasn’t what you would have wanted by that stage.

The Rainbows Bridge Poem

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…
