Btw, organic food is not all equal either - some of it (those focused on profit) is probably not worth bothering with. I want stricter rules of what can be deemed organic… but maybe that’s a topic for another thread
I think you have hoisted yourself on your own petard!
I don’t think I have GB, I am just very honest about my arguments - and according to the paper I posted, all organic food tested (regardless of whether they meet my personal high standards or not) was included in their conclusion that organic food is better.
How much better, imo, depends on how it’s produced, the quality and mineral content of the soil, etc.
one paper Azz - I think we have to review many more papers before you can make that conclusion - you show me your paper and I’ll show you mine - this can go on for ever!!- happy organic farming Azz - the world cannot suvive on your dubioous claims. amd strangley enough I do not see many here on the website joining in! what a very uninteresting topic for just you and I! do you think your new thread or webpage will do any bettter?
don’t you think you have better things to do like admdinistrating a ove 50’s website?
Nine pages and 17 posters, I think thats typical of forum threads
I am quite happy for you (and anyone else) to disregard any of my arguments - the world would be a boring place if we all thought the same. I wish you the best of luck with your health.
With regards to my diet - several people are interested (I have spoken about doing it a fair few times over the years). And tbh, if I/it can help just one person it will have been worth it.
ra ra ra how many times have I heard this claim- if all my efforts have just helped one person then my life has not been in vain!! - really just one person and then you are satisfied - you’ll have done better than Christ then!
mind you Jon Barron is racking in the money compliments of you heh - and you?
Not really, I do not buy, or recommend his products to anyone, and only really used his article on the digestive system as it is pretty good - not perfect, but pretty good.
Gumbud some of us have been busy elsewhere today so unable to get involved in long discussions. That doesn’t mean we don’t support organic food/ farming where possible.
Ok you can produce learned opinions saying there is no discernable difference between organic/none organic food and I can produce people saying something quite different like this…
A number of things are indisputable, some of our most valuable wildlife responsible for pollinating our crops like bees /hoverflies are diminishing with the potential to create major problems. A number of studies have concluded that the overuse of pesticide is a contributory factor.
There is a growing problem with antibiotic resistance due in part to factory farming where animals are kept in close proximity increasing the possibility of infection and necessitating the wide use of antibiotics .
I don’t want the mass use of pesticides or antibiotics on my food thank you and I think we owe it to future generations to have a healthy respect for wildlife. After all we don’t know what we have lost until it has gone.
Therefore I support organic food and farming which doesn’t advocate the wide use of pesticides or antibiotics and what is more a lot of organic food tastes better than none organic to me.
I’d support organic if it was cheaper until the prices come down to what I can pay for a value bag of carrots etc I believe it is probably better for us and the environment but can’t afford the luxury of supporting it fully.
When we grew our own that was organic and lovely but we can’t do that these days.
Baxter a work colleague had painful gastric problems and at one stage it was thought she might be an undiagnosed Celiacs.
Someone suggested she tried bread made with spelt which she did and she was able to tolerate that much better.
As someone who regularly makes bread I am amazed at the different results produced by the various forms of wheat. If this variation in wheat makes a big difference to bread it doesn’t take a big leap in imagination to realise our stomaches may react diffrently too.
I’ve seen spelt on the supermarket shelves and thought about trying it. I have a bread maker so will try it out one of these days.
As I am trying to lose weight and suffer digestive problems it seems like a good idea to avoid any bread like products upon which I can lavish butter at the moment. What I try to do is cook up some new potatoes and use them as the starchy part of my diet. Also, rather oddly, pasta seems to ok.
Keeping the topic well balanced - Five Myths about Organic Foods - although the article refers to the American view of the topic the same principles undoubtedly apply in UK and any other countries that have good practices and laws to protect the public and their food consumption
incidentally organic food is usually more expensive than N-OG - so the vast majority of working class people in UK will probably never go there UNLESS all the N-OG foods can be removed from all supermarkets etc and replaced by N-ORG. the jury is still out on this one!
No it isn’t easily read and that is why it takes around 10 years to train as a GP (including medical school) and 14 years to train as a surgeon so that they are able to ‘read’ the human body.
But apparently that doesn’t matter Pats… All it takes is a computer and Google… Makes me wonder why Docs even bother with all that education when everything you need to know is available with the click of a mouse. This whole thread is sounding sillier and siller to me. It borders an amusing… but slides into pathetic now and then.
I wonder whether said doctors agreed that they had been “corrected”.
Or whether they just groaned as the patient left thinking to themselves ‘oh gawd, half-knowledge is such a dangerous thing’.
Of course we’re all entitled to our opinions, I personally cannot share your faith in the medical profession and if anything is amusing in this thread it is your blind, obsessive desire to defend it. Seriously the world won’t stop spinning on its axis if you were just a tiny weeny bit critical.
I think the fact that there are so many alternatives to the standard medical model indicates that there is huge dissatisfaction with it.
Whilst I wouldn’t go to a herbalist with a broken leg I would not seek an industrial pharmaceutical remedy for acid reflux but obviously respect anybody’s right to do just that.
I can only speak for myself Baxter I am sure Audrey is quite capable of speaking for herself…but I am far from being blind or obsessive and I have even been known to be critical.
