Have You Stocked Up For Halloween Yet?

Pumpkins were hard to carve this year. Not mine btw.
You give me a knife and a pumpkin and I’m pretty sure I give you a mess.

That’s so utterly sad :disappointed:

Why sad?

Just is… it’s my favourite time of year.

However, you get top marks!

You wrote Christmas instead of Xmas which is my pet hate

Totally pointless American import designed to sell pumpkins and other assorted stuff. Never had any time for it whatsoever. It used to scare the hell out of my mum, as she used to think people would come to the door to threaten her. I just look forward to it being over and have better things to think about.

Thanks for the comprehensive explanation. :grinning:

According to all internet wisdom it’s an Irish/English tradition inherited from the Celts and exported to the US in the 19th C. I used to think it was American but a Scottish colleague put me right years back. She said it originated in Scotland but that must be the Celtic connection.

Around here there is an etiquette that children only go to houses that are decorated with Halloween type scariness. So they do not bother anyone else.

Both have Christian origins. Apparently originates from times Christians had to meet in secret.

Thanks for sharing this Annie :slightly_smiling_face:

You must misunderstand Halloween. Children don’t go out begging. That’s not the purpose of Halloween. It’s a tradition of getting dressed up snd going house to house to get candy. Besides Christmas it was the funniest holiday for kids.
It’s a holiday meant for children.

Exactly. People are allowed to opt out.
They don’t ‘have’ to give kids candy.
The houses that are decorated and have door lights on are usually participating. It’s a really fun holiday for children.

Aren’t you usually howling at the moon?

You described the pros of Halloween really well. It is a bonding experience and a fun ‘get to know your neighbours’ type of thing. Parents most often escort their children.

It’s not begging for candy and not all folks over 50 are grumpy and mean. Thats right. Some of us still like to have fun !

Try “Mooning” at the howlers.

Halloween was a bit soggy here as it poured down …not a single little visitor…sad really :frowning:

No callers here either, all the kids have grown up and flown the nest, just the oldies left, having lived the other side of the coin, not sad, really.
