Not exactly Saving ones Life. But a near miss.
And having a Profound effect. In adult years and Parenting.
For Becoming Involved in Saving/Helping another.

Scenario. 1955.
Two 18yo Student/Apprentices near London.
Coming home from a boxing club. At Uxbridge Underground station

Half a dozen Teddy Boys. Beating up four USAF airmen.[Girlfriend Probs]
One Policeman trying to stop it.
Who had been knocked to the ground against a wall, Bleeding.
We piled in, Blocking the officer from the Teds.
The cavalry arrived: UK & US Military Police.
With a forearm under my throat, I was pinned to the wall.
AND arrested. Together with the Teds.
Locked up overnight. Magistrate Court next day.
The Original Policeman was hospitalised. Not there to give evidence and spell out the incident.
ALL. Eight youths fined ÂŁ5.!!
That doesn’t read as Much now. Five weeks’ wages then.
Details with names published in the local rag.
My father went berserk.
Worst was to come THREE years later

At an RN. Commissioning Process. This being regurgitated from dusty files.
Accepted with a Caveat. That hounded me for Eight years.

Provided first aid to a few, the odds are, they would of survived anyway. Larry’s HUMMV got hit by an RPG and got shrapnel from his hip down. Kept his leg but still drags his foot.
Can’t remember his name, we called him Hollywood because that’s where he was from. A piece of shrapnel bouncing of the armor and hit him in the jaw.
The LT caught a rock in the face from an explosion. He got real good plastic surgery but he didn’t look like he did before.
The only one that I really did save was the kid that drowned in the stock pond. Eyes and lips were blue when I got him out of the pond and performed CPR and he came back. Thought I broke his ribs and told the ambulance when they showed up. He said better broken ribs then dead.
