Fuel pipe broke during a jet engine test and the fuel caught fire, so I called over the intercom, “The engine is on fire, we are evacuating, everybody out!,” to be greeted with the response, “Really.”
“Yes you effing moron, there are dirty great plumes of black smoke coming out of the test house intake and exhaust. LEG IT!”, then I called the Fire Brigade.
Oh how we laughed all the way to the laundry to clean our brown-stained trouserings as we crossed the roof with the fire passing underneath us before descending the sturdy old external iron escape ladder.

I came across an unconscious woman by the side of the road. My friend who was driving said, “Should we stop?” Other people had stopped already so I said, “No, there is a garage over there. We’ll go and call for an ambulance instead.”
I thumped my Lovely Cousin on the back several times in a restaurant when she was choking to get her breathing again.
I thumped my Aunt eight times on the back to get her breathing again after she choked when taking a tablet with water. This was after my Lovely Cousin had already thumped her four times on the back. She had a sore back with a large, red hand-print for several days afterwards.

I cannot know if I have saved a life or not, but if I chance upon someone in obvious destress health-wise, I cannot pass without offering help. It is all part of being human and also not harden our hearts nor close our hands to the needy. The injunction to heal is for Jews and non-Jews alike. The last time I engaged a heavilly fallen lady, I did all I could until the ambulance arrived and we have been friends since she was discharged from hospital. As it turned out she had a severely lacerated leg from broken bones and also on warfarin, so perhaps my actions did go some way in keeping her alive

My Daughters aged 18yo did. Two Brahms & List Muppets from Bristol.
Caught in the Rip tide. Swam to them with buoyancy aid. Told them she would accompany & to go with the tide. Which would beach in an adjacent cove.
One Punched her in the head. She left them bleeding. They landed. Never to be seen again. She was told. “Pack in Surf Lifesaving”. And she did. >> que serra serra.

I’ve always wondered whether I’ve been guided to rescue any number of children over the years, or whether it was just the good fortune of being at the right place at the right time. My first day of teaching, I gave the Heimlich maneuver on a 12 y.o. who had choked on an apple and was turning blue. The apple piece shot across the room, which caused his peers to shout, “Cool!” They were referring to the apple not me 
.
I’ve used my surfboard to save a few who were drowning (mostly caught in riptides), plucked several toddlers out of the water (invariably their mothers were asleep or close to it while tanning) one was face down, and pulled a couple of kids out of pools who were in trouble. One was stuck under a big floating mats (I hate those things for that reason).
I also saved a dog by giving him mouth-over-the nose resuscitation when he was hit by a car, but I am unsure as to whether he ultimately made it.
Kids’ survival skill are not great. This is why we have to keep them under our roofs for eighteen or so years

Scenario. 1955.
Two 18yo Student/Apprentices near London.
Coming home from a boxing club. At Uxbridge Underground station…
Half a dozen Teddy Boys. Beating up four USAF airmen.[Girlfriend Probs]
One Policeman trying to stop it.
Who had been knocked to the ground against a wall, Bleeding.
We piled in, Blocking the officer from the Teds.
The cavalry arrived: UK & US Military Police.
With a forearm under my throat, I was pinned to the wall.
AND arrested. Together with the Teds.
Locked up overnight. Magistrate Court next day.
The Original Policeman was hospitalised. Not there to give evidence and spell out the incident.
ALL. Eight youths fined £5.!!
That doesn’t read as Much now. Five weeks’ wages then.

My father went berserk.
Worst was to come THREE years later…
At an RN. Commissioning Process. This being regurgitated from dusty files.

Provided first aid to a few, the odds are, they would of survived anyway. Larry’s HUMMV got hit by an RPG and got shrapnel from his hip down. Kept his leg but still drags his foot.
Can’t remember his name, we called him Hollywood because that’s where he was from. A piece of shrapnel bouncing of the armor and hit him in the jaw.
The LT caught a rock in the face from an explosion. He got real good plastic surgery but he didn’t look like he did before.
The only one that I really did save was the kid that drowned in the stock pond. Eyes and lips were blue when I got him out of the pond and performed CPR and he came back. Thought I broke his ribs and told the ambulance when they showed up. He said better broken ribs then dead.

Yes, I have. When I was working in the USA, I once helped a patient with heart disease who was having a heart attack. I recognized that something was seriously wrong and made sure he received medical help in time. Thankfully, he survived.
He later came back to thank me, and his gratitude meant so much to me. It was one of those moments that reminded me how precious life is, and how even a small action at the right moment can make a huge difference.

I have most likely been best at saving my own, sometimes with great desisions.
Sometimes it was pure luck I am here Thanking Him daily for giving me the chance.
