Personally I think Putin is a psychopath, and psychopaths feel no empathy for their fellow man… If he wasn’t unbalanced he probably wouldn’t be waging this war…

This is what it must have been like just before ww2, people in this country and around the world didn’t think hitler would invade, then it happened, putin may not stop at ukraine, he doesn’t recognise Lithuania, Estonia ect as countries, he’s warned Sweden and Finland against joining NATO ( I thought they were already members ) this could turn into something more, let’s hope common sense prevails
Hmmm … I doubt if ‘warmongers’ and ‘common sense’ could ever appear on the same page. I think the world needs more than common sense with Putin on the offensive.

I find it heart breaking. It certainly puts our normal everyday concerns, such as the way we hang our washing out (for example), in perspective. 
Talking about learning nothing, my ship was in dry dock, in Nagasaki, in 1956.
The Japanese Customs officer came aboard with a very big dog.
Having had a very pleasant chit chat, about this and that, I wondered why he had such a large dog.
His reply was that, if you had gone through the Atom Bomb experience, and all that followed, a large dog could keep you fed for a day or two.

It doesn’t seem so in Putin’s case anyway. I don’t think he is old enough to remember what happened then. Someone should send him video’s of WW11 & Hiroshima.
Hard to believe the Russians were actually our allies in that War.
Watching the news & the interviews with the people of Ukraine had me in tears, to know this was all happening again in my life time makes me sad & mad at the same time.
OK so far the UK not in the front line, but who knows what the immediate future might bring.

They had a non aggression pact with Hitler, not to attack each other !
When Hitler had finished with Poland he immediately broke the pact and
and started on the unprepared Russians, who might have otherwise joined
him in fighting us !!

All during the war my Dad was on board a ship with the ship convoys taking stuff to Russia, so I assumed they were in at the start.

Looks like a Coaster, to me. A Ship like this would have been taken over during the war.
I should add, Tiffany, that he was a really brave man, to have been on those Convoys.
He might have been going to and from Murmansk, which was reputed to be one of the coldest, most dangerous ports to be involved with.
Also, because of the way ship’s Articles work, his pay would have been stopped, immediately, if he had to abandon ship.
And, the sea, up that way, is staggeringly brutal!

Originally it was a fishing boat, taken by the navy,my Dad was the radio operator. He always said it was so small the Germans couldn’t see it which is why it never got a direct hit.
