Happy Birthday Rupert Bear

The things that pop up in ones news feed.

On this day. November 8th, 1920. Rupert Bear first appears. It is a cartoon series for the Daily Express. And apparently he is still going strong & Paul McCartney brought the rights to Rupert in 1969.

Anyone here see or read Rupert when they were younger? I cannot say, I ever remember reading anything about him. But apprently the first Rupert Bear Annual was published in 1936 & you can still buy them today.

Goodness he’s getting on a bit now then isn’t he? He must be 105 years old.

I remember Rupert. I think he may have been my first true love. He wore a red jumper along with yellow check trousers.
He was much sweeter than Paddington Bear or Winnie the Pooh.

Of course as I matured and became more precocious I moved on from cuddly toys and fell in love instead with my Action Man. :pig:

Rupert Bear stories were always a bit weird with some very strange characters.

Give me Enid Blyton anyday - wonderfully weird and imaginative!

I think I bypassed Rupert into Biggles quite early.

The Daily Express was read in our house so I did Rupert when a small kid.
Fairly certain I had a Rupert Annual at one point.

I bought a Rupert Bear Annual at a garage sale about 20 year ago , I read somewhere that the annuals with Rupert wearing white Trousers on the cover was Rare and worth something .

The one I bought was Rupert with white trousers , I dont think I cared much because it had been scribbled in and pictures were crayoned by the previous owner …

I kept it to read to my Grandsons , and Im not sure where it ended up .
