Which was the highest mountain in the world before Everest was discovered

But Kangchenjunga was considered highest at 28.169 Ft

It was a bit of a trick question to catch some of you out so well done getting the correct answer. 
Kangchenjunga is actually the third highest mountain and tradition is that climbers (first conquered in 1955) don’t go all the way to the summit because of a promise to the Choygal the king/ruler of that part of India. That promise has been honoured since then.
It could be argued that the highest mountain is Mauna Kea in Hawaii but technically it’s a dormant volcano and a great part of it is under water, more than half to be exact.
