Hair over 50 - should men dye theirs?

Should men dye their hair aged over 50. If so how can you make it look natural and also should they grow hair long

Iā€™m not a man so I hope you donā€™t mind a womanā€™s perspective.
How you care for your hair is completely your own personal thing. Some men dye they their hair , full on while some men use that Grecian formula for a more gradual natural greying look. Then again some men go bald and wear toupeeā€™s while others shave it all off and are perfectly fine with it.

Personally I like a man who isnā€™t overly fussy about his personal appearance.
Having a man that fusses more than I do wouldnā€™t go over well. Men who gracefully accept the fact that they are aging is attractive. Anything less than that isnā€™t really accepting reality.
My guy is half bald and shaves his head. It really suites him and it is obvious that heā€™s comfortable with it.

Hair ? Hmm, I have more hair growing on my eye brows and out my ears than on my head. Nutureā€™s dirty trick on men. I keep what little I have I keep shorn very, very short. I have my own electric shears and cut my own. no sense spending money on a dead garden.
One very bizarre thing about me. Up until I was about age 25, my hair was platinum blonde. Now itā€™s a mix of very dark brown and light gray. weird.

I think it is totally up to each man to dye or not. Long hair ? Personally I think it looks ok PROVIDED he still has a full head of hair.

Having said that, mick Fleetwood looks just fine. However, I canā€™t imagine Mick Jagger being nearly bald.

Personally I think men who dye their hair look rather ridiculous. Paul McCartney for example used to dye his chestnut or similar, and with an old face to me he resembled Ken Dodd. It rarely looks natural - and most women quite like the salt and pepper look IMO. Same goes for older women too, a flat dyed brown or auburn or worse - jet black - looks terrible.

I donā€™t think itā€™s for me to say if men should dye their hair at a certain age, entirely up to them, it wouldnā€™t bother me, as for growing their hair long again their decision .

I agree with opinions here that it is entirely a mans decision to grow their hair or dye it. However, personally speaking, men look better just as they are, au natural. Have a chat to a hairdresser if you are making changes - they are better placed to advise what will suit you.

I donā€™t think they should dye their or grow their hair long. But their choice.

No no no
Dyed hair is so obvious because it is almost impossible to replicate natural hair which is made up of a multitude of colours , dyed hair looks a flat colour and unless redone every few weeks the roots show.

I would run a mile from man with dyed hair, for me it signifies vanity and I donā€™t like vain men .

Cass I bet you wish you had never asked

Dyed hair on a man is so obvious, and to me, looks ridiculous.

What many men donā€™t realise is the fact that the majority of men look far more dignified with the lovely silver/grey hair in their older years.

I struggle to imagine Mick Jagger being bald too, but given that heā€™s just turned 78, I think itā€™s highly improbable that his hair hasnā€™t been coloured.

Iā€™m not terribly keen on older men with long hair, mainly because the ones Iā€™ve seen are usually scruffy looking. If they keep their long locks under control, though, and stay well groomed, then I have no problem with it.

One thing I cannot abide is a man with a shiny pate and long hair growing only from around the sides. It just looks ridiculous. Bill Bailey is one example, and much as I like him, I think his hair looks absurd. I mean, itā€™s not even strong, healthy looking hair, just a load of thin, wispy stuff. Get it cut, for heavenā€™s sake Bill!

I think you can keep it natural but not unkept if that makes sense? techniques like gray blending help mixing natural appearance with a sophisticated look

Hi @kenishhh

Yeah, like George Clooney ā€¦ dye it more shades of grey. Can get expensive though, to keep it looking good.

Whatever you choose to do avoid at all costs the ā€œDonald Trump Miracle Youth Cream & Hair Dye.ā€

I could see doing that if it would help in a work environment. Even though itā€™s almost always obvious when itā€™s died, people do look older with grey hair.

The tech industry, for example, is dominated by young people. So if you donā€™t want to feel like everyoneā€™s father, it makes sense to dye it if it makes you feel younger.

I used to dye my hair when I was in my early 40s. Of course, I was still single at that time, and I think it helped me get dates.

When I met my wife, she was dying her hair, also, so we both had fake hair color. We never talked about it though. When I stopped dying my hair, she asked me if I was letting it go grey, so itā€™s not like I was fooling her all that time, even though I thought I was.

Youā€™re just prejudiced against orange people.

Iā€™m half bald and shave half my head, think might have been born half Mohican

Who doesnā€™t love the Man from Del monte ?

I used to dye my hair when I was working in the engineering factory and everyone took the p$SSā€¦I didnā€™t mind that, but I havenā€™t dyed it since, I might look like old father time now, but I still feel young on the inside. Sod what anybody else thinks.
