Google is on a hiring freeze, then they’re threatening to lay off people if their financials don’t improve. Many of the high-tech companies are in the same situation.
Why do Google make such a drama out of it though? What’s all this ‘Blood on the Streets’ talk, for heavens sake?
Doesn’t any business, big or small, have to lay off staff if it is in trouble?
@butterscotch , l think it was bound can yoto happen, you cant keep inflating a
balloon forever can you ??
Maybe they should curb their expectations ??
Some say that it was the marketing department that created the report, and they’re used to hyperbole.
Yup, that agrees with the tweet in the article.
Interesting though that their earnings were better last year with covid still raging and more people working from home.
According to this article, employees were required back to the office in April 2022. That’s about when productivity declined. Haven’t looked into it much, but this just seems worth investigating.
This bit confuses me now…if earning were better when working from home, what is the purpose of hybrid working? It’s Google after all…computer based. Unless its techy stuff, practical work?
This has been a longstanding controversy for high-tech companies, particularly in that area. Many of them require their employees to work in the office despite their duties being almost completely online and portable.
Around 15 years ago or so, Yahoo decided that it would be more productive if all their employees worked in the office. The CEO at that time was a woman who created a nursery for her new baby in her new office. The rest of the employees were required to work in the office without those amenities.
Under covid restrictions, the employees realized what they had known all along, that their jobs could easily be done from home. Google and other companies had made plans for employees to go back to the office, but the plans kept getting pushed back due to more covid restrictions.
I’m not sure why these companies insist that employees return to the office, but some have surmised that the middle management have little to do when there’s no one to manage in the office.
Ahh so middle management are trying to justify their positions then
