Good Morning Wednesday, 5th November 2025

Good morning all.

Just noticed the date, it is Guy Fawkes Day in the UK. Anyone got their fireworks ready for tonight?

It is not a day here apart from anything else fireworks without a permit are banned in NSW and have been for over 30 years. Guy Fawkes Day is also in the bushfire season which is possibly another reason why it is not celebrated either.

The Melbourne Cup came and went, according to last night’s news the race was won by the only Aussie horse in the field and with a female jockey. Ten years after the first female jockey won. they said

(previous female winner left current winner right)

It is a lovely sunny day if a bit cool today, apparently there is a super moon tonight, if I remember I might try to view it.

Enjoy your Wednesday.

Take care…

Good morning!
Wet & windy

Just general pottering & tidying this morning, then going to the Men’s Shed this afternoon

After yesterday’s exploratory session in the kitchen I’ve found that I have enough food in the fridge, freezer, and cupboards to make meals for at least a week, perhaps up to 10 days, without starting on longer term stores
in fact I need to eat up the fresh fruit & veg in the fridge before it goes off

Morning all

Not much happening here in the wet and rainy south coast. Mrs G off to get her hair done, drop some stuff off at the local recycling centre, may fit in a coffee at some point. Other than that, not much else.

Have a great day…

yesterday I spent helping a neigbour get out a fence post for his back gate; It had rotted at surface level and came apart after removing the metal fence bracket plates .
This left the stump in the ground which is where the problem started. Not only concreted in (which took ages even with an electric Kanko) but once the surrouning earth removed, by hand mainly, still would not budge. it was suction that held it in place in the wet soil. Only way way to lift it out by hand and the battle started. Not the easiest to do, a straight up lift with little to get to grip on
Us versus mud. 2/3 hours later we won and it was out. I have a tool to make the hole a bit bigger and deeper, a hand auger ideal for this.

today if the weather hold and it doesn’t rain we can put it all back together reconcreting the post in position ,and putting back the fence. The hard part is over, now just making sure the post is in the correct position/angle for the gate to shut and not foul the post

Good morning from the still cool air of Florida.

Our condo associations’s mediation with the state of Florida ended with no resolution. The state came unprepared, so they were making their argument based on calculated numbers - so poor that their attorney apologized. We tabled negotiations to move on to appraisal, which is one action shy of litigation. I’m trying to think back to whomever it was who talked me into being president, and thinking that I should have “Fool” tattooed across my head . Insurance companies are the worst.

Anyhow, I am blissfully free of all that today, and we just made the decision to take on a bathroom renovation, and I get to be assistant (which is Latin for "wife who gets to stand there and listen to her husband rant and swear :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :hear_no_evil:). I’ve done tiling, and basic plumbing, but I haven’t a clue about the membranes, retrofitting plumbing, or dismantling the giant one piece composite wall/tub combo to get it through a small pocket door. I keep getting the side eye every time I mention just heaving the thing through the three-story window, but I betcha that will be the ultimate solution :sunglasses:.

Anyhow, that was a long-way-around description of saying that tonight will be a long-overdue date night at the big box home improvement store, with time for a little sushi squeezed in. Romantic, to say the least!

Alrighty, I am off solve world problems, or at least domestic ones.

May you have a leisurely day free of home repairs :hammer_and_wrench: :carpentry_saw: :screwdriver:

I am really pis""ed off with him. he would not listen. I told him to put the post in first and worry about the fence later Oh no he knew better fence first. So now nothing fits and he is now all alone to do it all by himself. No one else is willing to help. even professionals won’t touch it as it is too small a job. He is also partially disabled to make matters worse. I had the post all set up and fixed in the right position as well. let him try and get a handyman to help as this really did my back in.
I have done this kind of job many times so know what I am doing ,I don’t think he ever has.every alternative suggestion I made was rejected so !!!

What he doesn’t realise is the while he had his nose in books I was out on building sites as an apprentice electrican. As such you help any trade on the site, including men erecting fences. whatever trade back in the 1960’s needed help the nearest apprentice was called on to help… He didn’t even know the difference between cement and concete post mix and got the wrong one. I just couild not be bothered to tell him
But can you tell someone with a degree???

Good evening everyone, I hope you all have clear skies tonight to admire the Super/Beaver moon, I’m looking at it right now!
It’s gorgeous, much shinier and bigger!

I hope our photographer friends on the forum will post some good shots, if it isn’t cloudy where you are.

Happy gazing. :full_moon:

Just come back from the seaside (fish and chips in the car) and took my gear to see if I could take the supermoon. Unfortunately, there was total cloud cover and saw nothing. :slightly_frowning_face:

I happened to be awake at midnight so I went out to look at the super moon. I suppose it did look larger than normal but not spectacularly so. It was very bright of course and still a long way away.

Watched for a few minutes but being in my underwear it was a bit cool out.

That’s a shame @Graham, better luck next time maybe. Yes @Bruce , it was the brightness that was particularly noticeable, making the night sky look lighter than usual.

Morning all! I think November is a bad time to keep going for early morning swims - think I’ll be shivering for the rest of the day
