Good morning everyone and welcome to Australian Flag Day. For the DIY people out there here is how to make your own.

Spent some of the morning revarnishing some wooden feet I made for my step ladder - the originals have gone missing and the aluminium angle just sinks into the ground. There is a chance I might just go to Bunnings and buy another if this is not successful, the ladder must be over 30 years old.

Because it is lovely and warm today (low 20s) I decided to plant some seeds, so I was busy cutting the tops off 3 litre milk bottles, stabbing drainage holes in them and planting Dahlias and Chillis. I have some very old Chilli seeds which produce small but very hot chillis (my favourite) however I am worried that they might be too old to germinate so I bought another variety and planted those as a back up.

The nice thing about the milk bottle containers is that a medium freezer bag just fits over the top and makes a little greenhouse for the seeds.

Later I will take the green bin round to the front garden ready for putting out tomorrow arvo.

Is this any relation to ANZAC day? I thought that happened in (our) Spring time, your Autumn. Flag Day in the USA is mostly folks just flying our flag, which many of us do every day. There used to be HOAs (home owners’ associations, aka “the new nazis”) that tried to force folks to take down their flags. The Texas Legislature passed a law that said, basically, “Flying the USA or Texas flags on your own property cannot be impinged upon.” That nipped all such anti-American protests in the bud. I cannot say I’m upset that many HOAs had their teeth pulled when that happened.

Morning all…

Wet and windy here on the southern coast of Hampshire. I may brave the elements to do my usual daily walk shortly. Not sure what’s happening here today, but I have to order a new flash transmitter for my camera, as I’m doing a period studio shoot in a country manor week after next and my current gear isn’t compatible with existing stuff.

There is a severe risk of having to go shopping later which may involve a cooked breakfast, but I am waiting for “Mrs Graham” to give me the all clear on that. Whatever happens, there will be coffee involved.

No, ANZAC Day is 25th April each year.

Australian National Flag Day is recognising the first time the flag was flown, on 3 September 1901. Known as the Commonwealth blue ensign, it became formally recognised as the Australian National Flag in 1953.

Generally speaking Australians don’t fly flags except at sporting events though of course they appear on public buildings.

Good morning!
Dull but dry

Very soon I’ll be doing last night’s washing up and sort of preparing for this evening’s meal, which, as I’m in Lancashire I call tea, not dinner

Then I’m going to the afternoon session of Trawden Men’s Shed, to continue cleaning up their donated tools
Just getting there will be hard work

I live in Burnley, and there is a string of old cotton mill/industrial towns in East Lancashire - Burnley, Nelson, Colne, and others, including Trawden
Like everywhere else in Britain, traffic has increased considerably since these places were built at the end of the nineteenth century, but it was bearable

However, two things are happening at the moment to make travelling around quite difficult -

They are renewing the water or sewage pipes or something all along the main road, with several extensive roadworks, singe lane working, and so on
They’re doing something to the bus station in Nelson, so one of the main routes through the town centre is closed, with diversions and loads of associated queues & jams
There are other minor roads but they’re a bit tedious, and also now very busy as everyone is trying the same thing
Oh what fun!
Yes, I know there has to be maintenance & repairs, but it doesn’t make it any easier

Think I’ll get back to my washing up

Good Morning All.

Lots of coincidences on here today, weather, traffic and flags.

As for the debate about tea or dinner, I also say Tea, Dinner is reserved for a large evening meal shared by adults when the children are tucked up in bed and the mess of toys downstairs has been cleared away.

Allowed out of bed today, for a while at least, so feeling much more positive, I hate being confined to bed.

I have managed a good look at the expensive corals I got delivered yesterday at a bargain price , much better and larger than expected.

Unfortunately one was obviously not happy with where it was put, detached itself last night from it’s rock and decided to drift round the tank and reattach itself in a more favourable place.

Unfortunately it’s new place was too close to a stinging coral and it is really suffering from the toxins it has been stung with.

It looks like goodbye to the best part of £60.

It is weird to see corals, which look like plants, to be fighting.

The other thing is that with it being a new tank, with young fish, puberty has arrived, my Bangai Cardinals have coloured up amazingly and are dancing for each other.

They are mouthbrooders and the male hatches the eggs in his mouth to keep them safe.

All in all a brilliant start to the day and I hope you all have such a good day.

Thanks to everyone who sent Mrs Fox good wishes yesterday, and thanks to all those that didn’t. I know you would have if you had seen my post and had the time…So thanks everyone…Not sure about getting rid of the bike Bruce…

After spending seven! Yes! seven hours at the hospital yesterday, they proded, poked, took several blood samples and bombarded her with radiation, it was found that her heart was doing it’s job in a fashion…good enough for a 75 year old woman, and sent her home with some Lansoprazole and the promise of more tests in due course. I just worry about her shortage of breath, but we’ll see what develops after the promised tests.

Dentist first thing this morning hence the late posting, teeth are still in good working order apparently, so after a clean with a wire brush I was discharged, with just the 27 quid to pay on the way out…It was nice to suck on a humbug afterwards that I have concealed in the glove box for special occasions, not wanting to turn up at the dentist with sticky debris stuck in my teeth.
Good for another 9 months, if I don’t eat too many humbugs…

I am very glad Mrs Fox is OK but I think that you are pushing your luck riding that bike, you have had warning signs and you have Mrs Fox to look after.
