Am wishing you good morning a bit earlier than usual this morning.
It is quite warm out, I am going to a Hillman owners rally with a friend of mine, he owns a Hillman from the 1950s (I think). My first car as a 17 year old was a 1947 Hillman Minx - cost me £10.
Will take my camera so hope to have some pics of the event.
Trotted down to the Supermarket for milk, the chemist for my prescription and the Vietnamese bakery for wholemeal rolls to freeze, now I am just waiting for my friend to pick me up.
Good morning - A dry, sunny but cool day ahead. Mrs mart says she slept very well on the new bed. It can raise her legs in a way that makes sleeping more comfortable. Worth the money spent then.
According to my smart watch (a recent novelty), I got 4 hours 27 minutes of deep sleep, 2 hours 57 minutes of light sleep and 44 minutes of rem. I read that it logs this by heart rate and body temperature. Don’t know how accurate that is but I think I slept OK.
It’s Nephrostomy dressing change today. Once that’s done, the next thing will be a trip to the pub (just the one pint).
I’m debating a ride on the e-bike soon. It’s nearly two weeks since the op and the signs are OK. It’s putting weight on the area sitting on the saddle that’s a worry. Still at the thinking stage.
I inherited my fathers Hilman Hunter GT when he passed. Also has a Singer Vogue Estate . I well remember as a young lad my father has a hilman with a curtain on the back window, this must have been in the late 1940s something like a 7 or 8 horse power engine as car engines were measured in horse power back then
Well, I had my few days away in North Yorkshire, which were very good -
A browse round Pickering; met my friend for a drink & chat about old times & friends; saw him play with his band at the beer festival, and managed to behave myself and not drink too much
Also went to Whitby and bought some jet earrings for my daughter, which was harder than I expected as there were so many to choose from and it became quite confusing, but I think the ones I chose will be OK
Those were the good points, but not so the travelling
There are loads of roadworks & road closures around Burnley, Nelson, and Colne so just leaving my local area was hard work
Roadworks & long queues in Harrogate and the roads around York and the A1
Same sort of thing on the return journey
I became quite tired from the driving - of course I’m not getting any younger, but even so I’m now finding that the roads are much more crowded than just a couple of years ago, and the whole country seems to be covered in roadworks, such that I now have to consider whether a journey is really worth the effort
Well that is another trip to the dump with 13 more bags of acorns. Also just used the blower to have another go and yet 4 more bags in the garage to go now. The mast of acorns this year is about the the heaviest since we have been here. Next will be leaf collection time.
Yep, absolutely terrible car, solid front axle with king pins, leaf springs front and rear, cable brakes with leading leading drums (couldn’t stop in reverse), leaky skylight, wind out windscreen, vacuum powered windscreen wipers. mine had a floor change and bucket seats
Its saving grace was the amount of room in the back - there was enough room for people to sit on the floor as well as the seat.
Had a lot of fun with it as my first car. I still have the handbook somewhere.
I saw a 1974 Hillman Hunter go for a good price on Bangers and cash. when I saw it I thought what a good looking motor car, the perfect shape what a motor car should look like.
It was bought for an exhibition by the son of the father who bought the car new in 1974.
AI Overview
The Hillman Hunter was a family car produced by the British Rootes Group (and later Chrysler) from 1966 to 1979. It was part of the “Arrow” series of cars, intended as a replacement for older models, and was known for its angular styling, similar to the Ford Cortina Mk2. The Hunter was also famous for its production in Iran as the Paykan.
They’ll be selling me on ‘Bangers and Cash’ soon…
Cold again this morning but a rest day so just an early visit to Tesco (solo) Mrs Fox has a doctors appointment so is leaving the important purchasing of dietary requirements to me…
I got a free smartwatch with the purchase of my new Samsung phone Mart.
I gave it to my Son in Law because it doesn’t work on me with having a pacemaker. My heartrate rarely goes above 60 bpm except during a jog, and below 60 bpm when I’m resting.
My one was full of rust. With the bench front seat the handbrake was on the right between seat and door. I remember pulling the handbrake on sharply one day and was left with the lever in my hand and a hole in the floor. Also with the handbrake being dodgy when I parked at home I put a block of wood behind the rear wheel. One day I forgot to remove the wood and reversed over it. The result was the rear spring came up through the floor. I was a welder and spent a lot of time under that car.
The dogs are sending the good morning greetings today, given that they were up at 5:30 rousing the world before even God himself was awake. I made the best of it and enjoy a few miles of leisurely jogging before the sun started its assault.
@Mart, I was fascinated to read about the sleep features on my watch. I had no idea technology was advanced enough to break sleep into stages. Very nifty. Good news that Mrs. Mart is enjoying the new mattress!
Ripple, thank you for the lovely photos! That is a beautiful and imposing castle. I am happy to read that you are out enjoying this lovely September.
@ Bruce and @, I had no idea what a Hillman was, so I had to look it up. I imagine it was a good practical care to have around. We always hold such affection for our first love and first car, don’t we!
I’m soon heading off to our storage units to dig out furniture and household items for the gentlemen of the house. Because they both have so much flying on the was coast, they are renting a house on the space coast base on the east coast of Florida so they can reduce the commuting time and fly more. It’s quite a drive from here, but my daughter and I are already plotting to use it as a little vacation spot to launch a few surfing excursions. Even better, I am scheming this a surgical opportunity to excise us from the exhausting condition of Too Much Stuff (I said, rolling up my sleeves ).
