Good morning all on what promises to be a hot (very high 30s) and windy (gusts up to 90kph) day! A total fire ban is in place with the fire danger rated as “Extreme”.
Got my washing on the line virtually as soon as it was light to try to beat the strongest of the winds.
Had an appointment at the optician, my eyes have deteriorated over the last six months so I have an appointment for a couple of months time to see an eye specialist about cataract removal.
On the way home noticed that the power company has done their annual butchering of the trees.
Good morning - Grey skies but dry and still. Not how it will be later according to the forecast. A storm is on its way. Still hospital visiting in the afternoons. I really hope that will end soon. It’s into the 3rd week now.
Do you remember a tree in UK nicknamed ‘The jigsaw puzzle tree’? A large evergreen that had bark like jigsaw puzzle pieces. Maybe a local thing but we used to pick pieces off it but in doing so, you had to give the tree something in return. In me and my sister’s case, it was a scrap of paper with ‘thanks’ written on it. Tucked it into the bark.
My recent camping trip was pleasant enough - no rain, and met a few friends
I’ve spent the past couple of days packing things away
Not much happening this morning, then I’m going to the Men’s Shed this afternoon
Dilemma
If you overfill a cup of coffee so it runs down the sides , is it because you put too much into it, OR is it that the cup is too small?
This is what one pondes about while having a bath.
The early Wednesday visit to Tesco, aren’t things getting expensive these days…A normally £40 shop last year is now £70…
If this continues we’ll have to start going to Aldi…
A very nice sunny morning with clear blue skies…The sun was just coming up on our drive to Tesco, and so low and bright…My eyes still haven’t adjusted…I’ve been walking around like Stevie Wonder…
Rest day today, with just the leaves to sweep up on the drive, but with high winds and heavy rain forecast for tomorrow, I’ll just do a quick job to keep Mrs Fox happy…
Good luck with the cataracts Bruce, Mrs Fox had hers done a couple of years ago, and despite having to wear glasses all of her life, was surprised that she could finally see without them…
How nice to read about the happy nuptials, @Eliza. I wish them every happiness! I am sure it was a spectacular affair.
That’s a shame about those trees @Bruce. Dogs and trees are the best things nature has managed thus far IMHO. Everyone I have ever talked to about cataract surgery ends up wishing they had done it sooner. Good luck on that!
Speaking of animals, my window warrior was at again this morning and perched long enough for . I hope some pretty young thing comes his way soon so he can attend to other matters. Cardinals are notoriously territorial, but this guy takes the cake for his determination:
At the prices these days, what it really means is that you are rich! Or are you poor for having paid an exorbitant price for the beans? Conundrums…
And on that theme, one must be a wealthy man even to go to Aldi, @OGF, I am about to the point of pulling up wild onions and boiling palmetto hearts from the backyard. I fret about the younger generation coming of age and having to spend so much,
@zuludog what a great time of year to camp! Were in a spot where you could have a campfire?
@Mart, that tree is something new to me. It must have been a local thing.
How lovely, many years ago i was invited to a Bengali wedding it was like being on the set of a Bollywood movie, it was wonderful. The costumes as you say are beautiful.
You obviously need a bigger bath.
Aren’t you responsible for any damage it might do if it is your tree? What if it fell on someone? That’s the trouble with big trees like that, the maintenance costs a fortune
That is also what I have been told but it wasn’t a nuisance until the last couple of months, it has deteriorated rapidly in that time. Makes no difference to normal activities except when reading writing on the computer.
I had a detached retina many years ago which was repaired but the worst cataract is in the other eye, which is a bit annoying.
No I am not responsible if the branch falls down as the trees
have a preservation order on them. That means I can’t touch them . More so because I put an application to have them reduced in size, that was refused by the council. So if anyone gets hurt the council are liable
Are you sure about that? Just because they have a tree preservation order on them doesn’t mean they don’t have to be kept in a safe condition. It would be worth checking on.
Bruce if you knew the arguement I have had with the council and having an inspector here as well to try and get them reduced. All they permitted was to clean the tunks and remove the dead wood. That hanging branch is not dead the leaves are still green on it.
the local council don’t think that way, they are so set in inforcing rules and blind to what needs doing.
Not only that but when the dead wood was cut out some of the branches fell into the neighbour garden,
Now she has a mental disability and not liked by anyone. When the guys were up in the trees she came out and said if she had a gun( like she aparently had in Germany, she is German) she would shoot the men out of the trees. Her house is in another road behind mine.
