Good Morning Wednesday, 20th August 2025

Good morning on yet another cold wet day, 16° or 17° is the best we can hope for today. Saturday is the earliest the showers stop, tomorrow is supposed to be the wettest day…

Was out early to get milk, because it is wet I basically had the supermarket to myself.

Decided to have a food free day because I have my seniors’ lunch on Friday and will undoubtedly gorge myself (never stand between a pensioner and free food) as well as have quite a few beers.

Apart from that not much is happening today, played some Mah-jong and Sudoku games on my tablet, book is at the ready and I might watch another episode of Breaking Bad.

Fed up with the weather the garden is a mass of puddles because the ground is saturated and can’t absorb any more - whinge whinge.

Enjoy your day

Take care…

Hi

Good Morning Bruce and all who follow.

The summer here , a max of 21C forecast, no rain.

The lack of rain is getting quite serious, not even enough water to operate the locks on some canals, boats are unable to travel.

I am sure I am becoming nocturnal, sleeping less at night and more during the day.

Watering is the big thing today, house plants, polytunnel and main garden.

It takes me much longer now than even last year.

Two deliveries due, more corals, so a lot of messing about to do.

Keeping a Reef Tank with corals, fish and invertebrates is very rewarding, nice to look at but hard work at times.

I have more corals arriving Friday, so need to move things around today to accommodate them.

They have specific needs some at the top of the tank for high light and flow, others lower down and some types release toxins to keep a clear space round themselves.

I also need to do some cooking, I have mushrooms and low fat mince to use up.

Have a great day all.

To add realism you need some Crown of Thorns starfish. :grinning:

Hope you can put up some pictures of your tank.

I used to enjoy my tropical tank when I lived in London

Hi

I am still struggling with posting photos on this forum.

I will try again week after next when my techie carer is back.

It will take at least a week for the new corals to settle in and open up.

Good morning!
A bit dull, but dry

Just general pottering today, including finishing the tidying & sorting of my bookshelves

Morning one and all…

Sunny and fresh in this part of the world, could use a drop of rain about now.

Today is our postponed wedding anniversary from yesterday. Booked a table at an Italian restaurant for later, Mrs G extremely happy with the cards and jewellery I got her, which means ‘happy wife, happy life’ for me (until I do something wrong, that is).

We have to do a little shopping to do later, maybe have a coffee and muffin and possibly go for a walk along the seaside this afternoon.

Have a great day all…

:coffee: :cookie: :+1:

A sad day here at the Fox’s, we took Rosie the cat to the vets to be doctored and Mrs Fox left in tears…She didn’t get this upset when they took me in to be doctored, and they had to do it twice because it didn’t work the first time…
The doctor said in all of his years of doing the snip he has only had two that didn’t work…
And one of them was when this woman had a baby and they thought it hadn’t worked, but when he checked…It had actually been successful…Oops! :icon_redface:

Anyway, on with the days business…Some light rain overnight but not enough to do any good. A lot cooler at 16 degrees C but being a rest day, who cares… :person_shrugging:
Mrs Fox is still out on her walk with her friend, so I get to peruse the forum longer…
Looking forward to your picture of the aquarium Swim, we kept a tropical tank for ten years, but you were right about it being hard work, had to let it go in the end.

Afternoon all (just!) – overcast and light rain at the moment but promised sunshine later

Eye test yesterday showed my long vision is more or less the same but my close vision has deteriorated – not unexpected. Decided to go for new long vision glasses as well as new reading glasses, should be able to collect them in 10 days.

I contacted the solicitor and told them I wasn’t happy with their holding onto my Will so they said someone would drop it in today together with all copies. Wonder if they will actually show!

BT are due this afternoon to upgrade me to full fibre! I have had several phone calls and emails asking for confirmation I am happy with the date. Then yesterday an email telling me he may have to “drill some small holes” in the property (not mentioned before but OK), then an email this morning stating it may take 3 hours!! As he is due anytime between 1.00pm and 6.00pm I hope it is earlier rather than later!

Had “the talk” with my neighbour today letting her know I feel I can no longer take care of the cat – feel really guilty about it. She was very understanding and told me not to feel guilty (can’t help it). They are due to go away again in about 10 days time and she said she would ring the cattery to see if they can take her – if they can’t I will look after her one last time!

Take care – have a great day

A shame you can’t look after the ‘beast’ anymore, I used to look forward to reading about her antics, but I can understand why. We have just obtained a kitten, and although I’ve had a cat almost all of my life, I 'm surprised how fast she is, and how slow I am…Our last cat (Maddie) grew old with us and would just settle for enough food and a nice place to sleep. She avoided the hectic times when we had visitors and disappeared into the garden until they left…A bit like me really…
Rosie on the other hand is such a live wire and has many ‘Mad Half Hours’ leaving Mrs Fox and me speechless… :astonished:
As I posted earlier, we took her to be doctored today so I’m hoping it has slowed her down a bit, but the upside is, she will be able to burn off her excess energy out in the garden as soon as she has recovered.

I really am feeling guilty about not being able to take care of her but unfortunately the pain in my knees when I have to get down to clean up after her is too much. She is a cantankerous and stubborn so and so but I love her to bits!

Just think of how chasing Rosie around the garden will help with your keep fit regime! I know you haven’t had her long but my guess is she already has you wrapped around her paw!

I can sympathise with the pain you have in your knees Sheila because Mrs Fox is going through a similar thing with one of her knees, although not quite as bad as yours yet. It has made her unable to walk very far and can’t stand up without assistance when leaving a chair. Knees have been added to my ever increasing list of ailments likely to make life hard as we age…Together with backs and teeth… :009:

You are correct in your appraisal of Rosie Sheila, she follows Mrs Fox around like her shadow, and when Mrs Fox leaves the house I become plan B…
I’ve been kicking a small ball around for to chase after and I couldn’t believe it when she brought it back to me…She thinks she’s a dog… :astonished:

Do you think that might be why it was called “New South Wales”?
