Good Morning Wednesday, 12th November 2025

Good morning on another spring morning.

Late yesterday arvo a southerly came through, it was very windy for half an hour or so, the radio this morning reckoned gusts of up to 85kph. It blew my metal birds over and suddenly dropped the temperature by 10° or so, I had to get my cardigan out.

This morning started off well, I put my clothes in the washing machine and set about restringing my line. It took for ever - the washing was long finished by the time I had it sorted - took until 8am. Wrestling 60 metres of 3mm plastic coated string is not fun. It took me a while to realise it had been wound doubled up. By the time the job was finished I had already decided that if it needs restringing again I will just buy a new hoist. (though I think this one will see me out)

To celebrate I toddled down to the chemist to get a prescription, it was the last repeat so I need to make a doctors appointment before Christmas (no rush though, can wait until I get back from my trip).

Also booked my car in for its 150000km service in early December.

Hopefully will finish the wall patch today and get the beading nailed on tomorrow. Wish I had a nail gun!

It’s all go!

Enjoy the mid week hump day.

Take care…

Good morning all!

Up early again, I moderated myself during our visit to the executive lounge at the stadium last night :innocent:

Sadly The Reds got knocked out of The EFL trophy during the final couple of minutes by Peterborough! :sob:
Oh well…

I’m having a seriously inspired rearrange of the front room at the moment, spring cleaning in November :open_mouth:

The Bofor gun cartridge serves as a vase, picked a couple up during a good rummage at a junk shop a few years back.

Have a good day people! :+1:

Morning all…

Yet another wet and rainy day here on the south coast of Hampshire.

Not a lot going on today. Would really like to get out with my camera, but the light and weather is appalling. So instead it’s shopping with the wife again. Not a great deal going on beyond that, may go for a drive somewhere afterwards, maybe.

Have a great day all…

:+1: :umbrella:

Coincidentally…

My son gave me a cartridge case from his ship ((they are normally thrown overboard) ages ago and I have wondered what to do with it. It is too big for a vase.

But only today I was looking at my umbrella in an old Yard of Ale stand when it occurred to me I could put it in the cartridge case and throw away the stupid stand - it is always getting knocked over.

Will have to invest in some Brasso and knock it back into a circular shape but that might be a project!

Hi

Good Morning All

Everyone seems to be busy doing improvements and repairs, some lovely looking rooms and gardens on show recently.

Work was supposed to be starting on my garden today, but now delayed due to the rain, hopefully they will start tomorrow.

I find it very annoying to have to pay for things to be done that I used to enjoy doing myself.

My normally clean and tidy lounge looks more like a messy A&E Unit than a lounge at the moment.

I unfortunately managed to get an antibiotic resistant infection when last in hospital, even more unfortunately it is in my groin where they tried to get a probe into one of the major blood vessels there…

The incision is infected and spreading on the skin, so loads of wound dressings and bandages which need changing 4 times a day.

I spend my days face down with my bare bum in the air.

A strange existance, made even stranger by the fact that the nurses take some photos every visit so that day to day changes in the infection can be recorded.

Enjoy your day all,

Morning all – heavy rain overnight and a grey wet start to the day

Not posted for a while – mainly due to the fact nothing interesting happening and I didn’t want to bore everyone to death! My time has been taken up with fascinating things like housework and shopping!

Sorry to hear your unwell Swimfeeders - hope things improve soon

Unfortunately, not much happening again, gardener cancelled Monday but is hoping to come today, although the weather may put him off

I am beginning to panic about Christmas – I will be going away early December and have only bought 3 Christmas presents – none of which are for the family I will be visiting!

Have a lovely day everyone

That’s a good idea Bruce!
I’m not sure if they respond particularly well to polishing, mine didn’t but that was probably down to my technique or rather lack of it. Worth a try though!
I do remember finding a live rifle round on The Thames foreshore some years back when I had a PLA permit. That was as shiny as a new button despite rolling around at the bottom of the river, possibly since the war? I lobbed it out as far as I could. I think a person could get four years for possessing such a thing, not a keeper to adorn the bookshelf! :open_mouth:

Good morning!
Cloudy but dry & mild

General tidying then shopping today (exciting isn’t it?)
The Men’s Shed have started an evening session so that’s what I’ll be doing tonight
That will give me the whole afternoon to find my car documents as the MOT is due in early December

Good morning from the frozen south of Florida!

It is C O L D. And that is all I have to say about that.

My elderly neighbor fell again last night and has been admitted, so I am in a bit of a rush getting some personal items to get to her later this morning. No word on whether she has broken any bones, but she is pretty banged up.

Quite unfortunately, @Chilliboot and @Bruce, I am the not-so-delighted owner of four bomb casings and two A-4 tail hooks that the gentlemen of the house consider to be interior-design-quality art :face_with_raised_eyebrow:. For now, I’ve been able to hide them in storage to make the place more presentable for selling. Do you think they will forget them if they stay there long enough to mysteriously disappear? :sunglasses: Y’all quit giving them good ideas for turning them into vases and umbrella stands

I sure hope you improve rapidly @swimfeeders!

Have a good day!

What about turning them into novel containers for house plants or festive centrepieces for Christmas dining Sufermom? :grinning: :+1: :christmas_tree:

When I was at school my brother and his mates seemed to spend all their time wandering the practice ranges at Shornecliffe Army camp and constantly came home with bullet/shell cases, live ammo, practice grenades and, on one memorable occasion, a live rifle grenade. (He got a good talking to about that!)

Grief, it’s lucky he got off with a good talking to!

I remember reading an account of some fella who was taking a stroll along The Thames foreshore. He noticed a rather attractive looking glistening white lump of stone/rock, he put it in the front pocket of his jeans. Unfortunately for him it was phosphorus, possibly from a tracer round. It dried out and ignited white hot burning a hole right through him. Don’t wanna mess with that ordinance stuff!

My brother didn’t learn much of a lesson, some time later when he was at his scouts meeting a device he had in his pocket exploded and severely burned his leg resulting in him having to have a skin graft from the other leg. Ironically the leg that the graft was taken from is still more scarred than the leg where the explosion occurred even over half a century later

I have no idea what it was but I think it was decanted from a weapon and stored in a small jar. Something like a sweet container or similar and presumably his body heat set it off.

On to more immediate concerns…

Alas my plans for a brass umbrella stand have been thwarted, the shell casing has a tube in the centre which I presume is part of the firing mechanism (no idea really). It basically renders it useless. Shows how much I know/cared about it - had never even noticed that before. A big disappointment.

Oh well!

I bet with your ingenuity and resolve there could be a positive outcome with the shell casing Bruce.
Watch this space?

Got it!
Put a nice shine on it, insert a shaft into that tube… voila!
A seriously unique and stylish toilet roll holder!
Really… :+1:
