Good Morning Wednesday, 11th December 2024

Good Morning happy forum members, it’s a warm, steamy, overcast day.

I have fitted the two remaining LED batten lights in my garage. Certainly worked up a sweat doing that but the job is finished and all is well. If I had known what was in the packet I would have not bought them. Basically they are a fluorescent tube fitting with basically no interior other than mains wires with a fluorescent tube looking LED light. I could have rewired the existing fittings to take the tube it would have probably been much cheaper. The old LEDs I installed were just a flat batten fitting, these look exactly like a florescent light

That took me most of the morning now I am old an slow, where climbing even a two step ladder requires a safety assessment, a mission statement and an action plan before I venture off the ground.

Have been pricing new all terrain tyres for my car, they are not worn out yet but getting close. Much as I like the Toyos I am thinking of something a bit cheaper as a graded dirt road is as far off the beaten track as I get these days.

Have a lovely weekend remembering it is only a fortnight until Christmas. Are you ready yet?

Take care.

Good morning everyone, another very cold misty morning. Hopefully no more rain, mountain tops all around us have snow, just keeping fingers crossed that we don’t get any snow down here this year. I hate the stuff!
Countryside snow scenes may look beautiful but living in those conditions is absolutely awful . I suppose it’s really only fun when there are kids around, we definitely all had fun when our kids were younger, snow-ball fights and making snowmen, sliding around the yard on the children’s sled we had bought for them.

Just as I’m typing this, I realise I have to “eat my words”. It’s pouring down with rain, yet again! Oh, it rhymes
It’s 8C at the moment, so no snow-scare, at least.

Looking forward to Christmas this year as my daughter’s coming over for a couple of weeks, she moved up North six months ago, for work.

Hope you’re all getting better weather.

Happy Christmas shopping.

Morning all – another grey day with top temperature to reach 7c

Visit to the hairdresser yesterday was successful! The colour is fine, it is just that when styling my hair after she always leaves it looking as if I have been dragged through a hedge backwards – sticking up on top and out at the sides. Each time I ask her to smooth it out but the next time she does it again!!

You may recall I was looking for a new DVD player, finally found one which was easy to set up and had good reviews, just before ordering it I double checked and it doesn’t come with any cables!! What is the point of selling something without the cables necessary to connect it? :icon_confused: Did a bit more investigating and found another which also comes with good reviews and all the necessary cables and is cheaper so will be picking that up today

Good news the company making my new blinds rang to say they are ready and will be fitted on Thursday – just in time as my visitors are due on Tuesday! :026:

Will be doing some shopping this morning, the gardener is due later to put bulbs in the planters ready to supply spring colour and I will also be bringing out the Christmas decorations :christmas_tree: – so a busy day ahead

Take care – have a wonderful day

Good morning - a grey day with a chilly temperature of 6º.C. Pub today at lunchtime but nothing else planned.

Feeling a bit subdued at present. I gave the Nephrostomy tube an accidental pull yesterday. Made me do a few dance steps that I thought were long forgotten. No dancing this morning but definitely a bit quiet. The pub should brighten me up

Have a good day.

Edit: I have been around the neighbours delivering the Christmas cards. Been to the pub and feel better for it.

Good Morning from Foxy’s place… :classical_building:
Dropped Mrs Fox off at the hospital for her physio appointment at 8:00am and fought my way back through the early morning rush hour traffic to do the Tesco shop. We’ve been enjoying M&S shepherd pies for Wednesday dinner, so I did a detour and called in there, had to sit in the car for five minutes as they don’t open until 8:00am. Tesco didn’t have any fresh fusilli for tomorrows dinner so after doing the Tesco shop it was back across town to Sainsbury’s…
Three shops…
Put up the tree yesterday and just one more set of lights to go round the trunk of the Holly, so I might do that later.
Mrs Fox is singing in the choir on Sunday, apart from Monday’s choir practice she only sings in the shower, so I hope I won’t be embarrassed when she produces her flannel and soap and takes off all of her clothes…
:astonished:
I took a photo of the lights outside last night with my phone and it doesn’t really do it justice, but here it is anyway…

The blurred light on the right is a shooting star high up on the gable end…I know what you mean about the risk assessment Bruce. It looks frighteningly high when you’re perched on a ladder looking down…
The white mass of light on the right of the bungalow is a pretty coloured ball with lots of flashing lights, and the Holly on the left just needs some lights wrapping around the trunk…
I used to do all that in one day, now it takes over a week, weather permitting…

Who took Florida while I was away? I left in sunny 70 degree weather only to return to a 40 mph sustained northerly wind from a cold front. There are waves on the river and trees are whipping around so much that I am waiting until two to run, lest I look like those characters in cartoons in full motion with no propulsion.

The Virginia was great fun, and the cabin we chose to stay in 45 minutes from the venue was thoroughly enjoyable. Perched atop a high mountain, set back miles from the main road, it was a perfect spot for running, hiking, and letting the dogs have the run of the place. The wedding itself was lovely, and it was wonderful to spend time with so many old friends who have scattered with the wind over the years.

The Blue Ridge mountains are so named because the trees release isoprene which interact with ozone in calm conditions to scatter blue light. It’s really quite a pretty effect.

Cozy layout:

 Do I ever understand that! I was washing windows this morning on a step ladder and wondered whether my life insurance policy was up to date.

Haha, so true! I was looking at a photo of Grindewald, Switerzland in the middle of a glorious snowfall and thought, “I wish I was there!” shortly followed by, “No, I don’t!”.

Wow! That was quick and perfect timing! :+1:

That sounds like a very nice afternoon. Your Christmas tree looks very festive, btw. I particularly like the tree blanket at the base.

That sounds wonderful. I hope you have a nice adventure!

It looks beautiful and inviting, @OGF. I particularly like your icicles. We don’t have anything akin to those here. Do your have a lot of participation in your neighborhood? I love driving around and looking at Christmas lights. Sadly, your place is just an inch too far.

Alrighty. There is laundry to be done and bills to be paid.

Have a nice afternoon!

Beautiful photos @Surfermom .

Who watched PMQ’s at midday today??? don’t think I have seen a prime minister getting so ruffled as he did today. H e even had to resort to his last 5 years as a lawer to defend himself and justify his actions. His cage was certainly rattled you could see it on his face

Brilliant, Psmith!

Beautiful pictures Surfermom, it reminds me of the Waltons Mountain, I never missed an episode…Isn’t the ‘Appalachian Trail’ somewhere there? If I had my time again… :running_man:
Most people in our little Cul-de-Sac put on nice displays, but driving around the village there are some brilliant ones. A pity it’s a little out of your range…I’ll try and photograph some.

You have a good eye, OGF :eyes:! The place we stayed was about 7 miles from the Walton family home which is in Schuyler, Virginia. I would have run there from the cabin had was stayed longer.

The Appalachian trail runs right through the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I’ve hiked several segments but, for this trip, chose other less-traversed trails in the George Washington Forest just to the west.
