Good morning forum folks…

A cool overcast day here, only 21°, so I dug out my cardigan, received 13mm of rain yesterday arvo/night which was very welcome but it looks like this wet weather has set in for the rest of the week.

I discovered that one of my satnavs has reverted to mph so I had to reset it to kph, no idea why it did that, I can only think that the battery went completely flat.

Washed out my new travel case yesterday and have sorted some things (cutlery, measuringcups etc) from the back of the camper to fill it.

Talking of travelling. Had a message from youngest son last night to say that they (he & GF) had reached Barcaldine and hoped to make Mt Isa today.That is a lot of driving but there is two of them able to drive. They are not camping but staying in motels or roadhouses as it is 40° up there.

For me, Barcaldine to Winton would have been quite far enough to travel in one day but I don’t really have a very exciting day ahead of me, I might find something to do in the garage later.

Have a tremendous, tantalising Tuesday whatever you are up to.

Good morning - The sky is a 50/50 mixture of clear and cloudy. Dry at the moment. It’s just above freezing at 1ºC.

The recycle bin has been emptied at last. With all the Christmas waste filling it up, I could hardly have squeezed another fag paper into it.

Off into town fairly early to keep an appointment. Then got the job of seeing if I can mend the bedroom vertical blinds that broke this morning when I pulled on the cord. If not, it will be a sheet up at the window come bedtime. Should make a good shadow show. :slight_smile:

Morning all – sprinkling of snow this morning and very cold – I am already fed up with winter! The local airport closed for a couple of hours this morning!

Beast was good last night and left no little gifts but as she again refused to leave the house (don’t blame her with snow on the ground and temperatures around 0c!) I expect to find something when I return later this morning.

Oh dear Mart - sounds like the same problem I had - blinds just collapsed. (fortunately I also have curtains so didn’t have to pay for therapy for neighbours!). When I got someone in to look at it he said the screws holding the blind up were too small - good luck with the repair!

The birds are all lining up on my garden wall waiting their turn on the bird feeders!

Cleaner came yesterday did her usual good job. She arrives on time, starts work immediately and doesn’t stop until she is finished! She manages to do in 2 hours what would take me most of the day!

Plans for today are to do some laundry and some shopping – then the afternoon will be spent reading or on my laptop! Lazy? Moi??

Blue skies and birds singing what more can I ask for , although I wasn’t well enough to go to the Theatre last night , I had some lovely birthday presents yesterday . ,

@Surfermom I have been showing an interest in painting so one of my gifts were , a painting kit , everything I may need is in the box , Ive not opened it yet , but when Im fully recovered I will make a start …

Good Morning from Foxy’s World… :zzz:
I’ve been sleeping late just lately, doesn’t seem much point in getting up while I’m not going walking yet. Disconnected all the Christmas lights and coiled up all the cables but it was too cold to spend too much time outside so I’ll get the steps out and have a go today. These days jobs get done in small increments. Just heard that a couple of my friends have been diagnosed with prostate cancer…What the hell is going on? I don’t think I know any blokes my age who haven’t got it, or passed away with it… :009:
Just zero degrees C this morning but the sun keeps popping out. Looks like another indoor day apart from the odd dash to take the lights down…

I am not looking forward to this afternoon as I have to go to the hospital. It is quiet serious as I might get blinded by all those nurses looking after me.

Actually it is for the annual eye checkup and field test which I absolutely hate.

Well that was “interesting”! Does that mean that my brother unknowingly emigrated to part of South America? Does it mean that the kangaroos are not real? :woman_shrugging: How do they get all the airline pilots to keep the secret - the one’s I have met become very talkative after a few shots of the old falling down water! Should we be calling for a public enquiry? Should the descendants of those criminals being suing the government for compensation? Oh wait just realised it was written by “Flat Earthers” - please disregard :grinning:

Good afternoon everyone, festive period officially over after yesterday’s Epifany, yet another public holiday.
That’s an interesting read @OldGreyFox, actually quite funny :grin:, I wonder what my Australian penfriend would think about this? I don’t think she’d be amused :smiley:. What about the daughter of a relative of mine? Where did she *really * emigrate to? :astonished:
Do the “Flat Earthers” also think we’re going to “fall off” the world if we walk too far? :rofl:

Good morning from the frozen land of Florida!

It was 28º F/-2º when I checked the temps an hour ago, so running was a no-go with ice on too many surfaces.

I am SO excited about your painting kit, @Eliza! The only advice I have is to be rigorous about cleaning your brushes when you are through and using your fingers to reshape them when you let them dry. It takes a while to get the hang of it, so don’t be frustrated if your hand doesn’t quite do what your mind projects. It is a wonderfully relaxing endeavor. Whoever gave you that gift was very wise and thoughtful I didn’t pick up a brush until I was well into my 50s - a pastime to learn at any age :paintbrush: :art: :framed_picture:.

@OldGreyFox, the world is definitely flat. Didn’t you see Bruce’s 2D map? Although I am pretty sure Australia exists (though Mr. Surfermom may have been in on the Big Lie with all that flying), we should show them plenty of respect for spending their lives clinging to Earth’s flat underside. Sadly, all that blood has gone to their heads causing them to struggle with words, abbreviating and ending words with vowels like - brekky, brolly, sunnies, biccy, footy, mozzies, prezzy, lippy, milko, relo, servo, vego defo, avo, aggro…. :grimacing: :smile: :world_map: :australia:

Speaking of Australia, I envy your kids their long road trip, @Bruce! It really is nice to have two drivers, but I also (strangely) miss the days of the 14-15 hour drive to my parent’s house. I am sure they are having an outstanding time. I looked up Mt. Isa and it looks like a mining town. Your entire continent (presuming it exists) must be one giant chunk of ore!

I confess that it feels good to have the holidays behind us @Rose2. I hope this finds you relaxing!

@SheilaP it’s good do know you have things worked out with your housekeeper. I haven’t ever had the nerve to have anyone clean my house, mostly because I feel like I would have to apologize my way through it with all these dogs, adult children, and presence of the long-wandering husband.

@realspeed you have my thoughts and prayers that you will come out of your appointment unscathed by the blinding beauty of those nurses.

I’m going to run when the winds hopefully die down and plan to otherwise have a date with the easel. The university is back in session tomorrow, so I plan to be totally worthless for the rest of the day.

I briefly worked there in the 1960s, it made the US Wild West look tame :icon_wink: but the pay was phenomenal. As a 20 year old I returned to Sydney with enough money to buy a couple of houses but, being young and stupid, naturally pissed it up against a wall.

Have been there several times since and don’t recognise the place at all.

I see Longreach is on the route.Never been there but it’s a name I know quite well.It’s on every Quantas 'plane and always thought it very appropriate for long haul air travel. :grinning:

There used to be a competition between Winton and Longreach as to where Qantas was actually founded but I think Longreach has won and Winton settled for a vague association with Walzing Matilda.

I have been along that road several times here are a couple:

I have actually flown to London on the 747 plane in the museum at Longreach, obviously many years before
