It started off as a very pleasant day and I was out in the garden but about 15 minutes ago a storm cell swung in with gusty winds and rain. Don’t know how long it will last.
The first Tuesday in November is Melbourne Cup day, the horse race that stops a nation.
Those Victorians even get a public holiday for it (but then they get a holiday for their footie finals too). I shall not be watching personally but at 3pm this arvo the world will go very quiet, traffic will cease, shops will empty, business come to a halt for the three or four minutes while the race is run.
According to the news this morning the track will be heavy so who knows who will win? even the bookies don’t have a favourite.
I’m not feeling very lively today - nothing serious, just a bit tired. Fortunately I had planned an easy day today anyway
I am part way through an email to a friend; just general chat and recent happenings, nothing very important but I need to get it finished & sent
My freezer is becoming frosted up and my kitchen cupboards are getting full of all sorts of cans & packets, some of which I’ve had for ages
So I’m going for a proper investigation and sort out to clear some of the back log & make a sort of meal plan which will also reduce my spending for the next couple of months, possibly longer
I have had the worst hassle in the last couple of days. Our old washing machine decided to go to “the great laundry in the sky”, so we had to get another one. Which when it finally showed up, it meant wrestling the old one out and trying to plumb the new one in, which wasn’t straightforward as it should have been, as we live in an older house and the guy who fitting the sink drain obviously had a sense of humour. Managed to stick it temporarily, but need some bits to finish it off. Luckily I intend to have the whole kitchen ripped out and rebuilt sometime after the new year.
My neighbor and I were up until almost two in the morning, working on the last aspects of hurricane mediation with the state of Florida this morning. We are currently divided into separate Zoom or physical rooms, or isolated by phone, while attorneys, adjusters, and we residents try to come up with a compromised amount to pay for repairs, long-ago made, to pick meat off of our financial bones. How, I miss the days of handshakes and real people being at the heart of most businesses, including insurance companies!
That means I’m sitting here in a parking lot at my daughter’s university, trying not to fall asleep in the car and hoping that I won’t have to get into any more minutiae of the numbers. At least I can read a book for leisure the first time in months and I’m grateful to be in yoga pants instead of a dress and heels! (Side note: I would argue that wearing heels is female version of men suffering in neckties; the opposite sex looks like a million , but oh, the agony )
Hoping that you all have a less tedious day and that this finds you in very comfortable attire
