Good Morning Tuesday, 28th January 2025

Good morning @everybody on this very warm Tuesday.

I went out before 7am for my walk in suburbia knowing that today was going to be another hot day according to BOM.

It never got below 20° last night but by 10am was well into the 30s.

It is supposed to get into the high 30s, it is very windy but a hot northerly however a southerly buster is supposed to arrive this afternoon. The SES was quite busy after the southerly arrived yesterday mostly trees blown over though it was only a little windy where I was the temperature did drop by a lovely 10°.

If it gets too warm I will wander over to the mall and read a book on one of their sofas.

Have a lovely day, Take care…

Good morning all!

Gosh, am I envious of those clear blue skies Bruce, all’s horrible, wet and windy here, anyway less about me :open_mouth:

Nothing much going on today. We’ll be donning the waterproofs and venturing into town for a few supplies.
Also I need to briefly pop into the tattoo studio to get my week old piercing checked out. I’ve been keeping it scrupulously clean with a Maldon salt solution and cotton buds so it’s looking fine.

Have a good day people :+1:

I wouldn’t too envious, it got up to 42° this arvo in my garden, finally the southerly arrived late and the temperature plummeted to 22° in about 20 minutes with a windy burst. Stormwise not bad here at all but power cuts north of Sydney with storms and hail.

That is twice in as many days. This is weather is ridiculous.

Stuck indoors I bought a Makita 18v 16" chainsaw on line , it was on special with a spare chain, 5ah battery and a charger. I had been thing of buying a double charger for my other Makita tools so this is very good. All for $400! very pleased.

Morning all – we have had a couple of very wet and windy days – today the winds are not so bad but we are due for yet more heavy rain – where is Noah when you need him! We could do with a little bit of that heat here Bruce, although not that high!

Having a problem with my ear – since I had flu it has been blocked, have tried a lot of things and today will be trying an almond oil spray recommended by a friend

Nothing exciting planned for today, but tomorrow the meetings for “old” people recommence at the church following the Christmas break so look forward to seeing everyone again. There is usually an interesting speaker (as well as free coffee!)

Take care - have a great day everyone

Dire weather today and if I wasn’t such a happy optimistic sort of bloke I could let it get me down…It didn’t seem too bad when I ventured out to ‘test the morning’ and check the temperature (7 C) and decide if it’s going to be a shorts day.
The shorts won (anything over 0 degrees C qualifies) but even as I proceeded down the street I could feel the odd spot of rain on my legs, and by the time I reached the canal towpath it was bucketing down. I don’t mind being out in the rain if I’m correctly dressed, and I was, with a good hooded waterproof top, hat and gloves. The hat isn’t waterproof so that’s where the hood comes in handy. Legs are already waterproof and don’t take long to dry.

Jees that’s hot Bruce, but I could live with that now I’m retired and don’t have to go to work.
We had some sweltering days in the factory when I was a machinist, the smell of coolant was always on your clothes.
Have you had your face to face interview yet Chilli? and if so, how did it go?
Good luck with it… :+1:

I’ve had three pair of Skechers now Eliza and really chuffed with them all, I don’t know why people knock Chinese stuff, its well made and it lasts.

Three consecutive days of running/walking has left my legs tired and a bit lethargic, I think I might have to either use Monday’s as a rest day, or take it easy. All of my life’s running was done off just three days of training…Sundays (long run) Tuesdays 8 miles and Thursdays 8 miles. The weekly runs could be longer if necessary. :017:

It was more of an initial chat Foxy. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but I’m registering with a recruitment agency. Ideally I’m looking for flexible hours since the plan is to relocate (at last ) to Scotland during the summer :+1::scotland:
But yes, the vibes felt positive, thanks for asking fella :slightly_smiling_face:

As for the rest of the day, we chose to stay in and adhere to a strict healthy diet! :open_mouth:

Good morning from the (finally) blue skies of Florida!

I am at the university today, with everything going back to normal after the week of historic snow. All of a sudden the 65F/18Cº feels warm! Nothing like NSW, however. Bruce, how deceptive your photo is. With those temperatures, the grass would be browning into dormancy and the skies would be hazy from the salt. It’s such a pretty scene with that plateau behind you. I am guessing that your area was once under the sea?

@Chilliboot i, I hope you can stand your ground and find a position that will enable you to live out your goals to spend more time in Scotland. @Rox and others who live there know that they have found one of the closest places to heaven on this plane.t

@Eliza, pine bark nuggets are my favorite but hard to find with most everyone favoring pine straw. A couple of years ago, my sister, BIL and I moved a semi-truck full of mulch around my mother’s home, and it nearly killed us . It all went well until we woke up the next morning so stiff that we could barely move. I thought we were going to have to call all the grandkids in to hoist us out of our beds with cranes.

I hope you enjoy getting your group back together @SheilaP!

@OldGreyFox, yes indeed, it is the season of strategic decision-making before every run. As long as it isn’t flapping around, I am happy with a tank/jacket and compression shorts or tights, but keeping my head and hands warm mean accessories that bug me no end. After all these years, I am likewise playing around with recovery days; do I run longer and take off two, or shorter and stick with a six day program? Will see…

The bells are ringing, so I am off. Have a full and happy day!

In summer in the boiler houses and on the turbine floors it was always in the 40s so I was used to working in that heat. I think it had to get to 50° to be considered unsafe (not sure, long time ago) plus we had air conditioned control rooms to cool down in - I drank tea all the time.

I vaguely remember being told the lawn grass in Australia came from Africa, a variety called "couch’ is probably the most common type it spreads with runners quite unlike English lawns. There are other varieties, some quite posh, all designed to withstand heat and drought. The heat doesn’t worry it but it goes brown in drought however it only takes one soaking rainstorm and it sprouts like mad, green and overgrown in couple of days.

A grandmother of mine had a chamomile lawn in the UK it smelt wonderful as you walked on it but it doesn’t like heavy traffic. Something I always wanted but will never have.

That explains the couch grass we have here Bruce. When it gets into a lawn its a bitch to get rid of, and in drought conditions it’s the only thing that grows and stays green. Just leaving a small piece of root allows it to regrow and take over a garden.

It doesn’t like shade, try Buffalo grass for that.
