Good Morning Tuesday, 23rd June 2026

Good morning all you happy forum folks. A sunny winter day, temps just crept up to 20° in my back yard though the house is ruddy cold (biggest complaint about Australian houses they are drafty and cold).

Caught the bus into Wollongong CBD because I wanted to find a currency exchange before I visited the specialist, I did find the place and am now the proud owner of some of those pretty pounds sterling. Usual rip off - got a rate of 0.47 when the official rate is 0.53.

Afterward went to my cancer doctor, sometime in the next three months I have to have a PET scan again but I have pushed my next visit to him back as far as I can so I can do my Oodnadatta trip.

I must remember to top up my Opal card to be able to pay the airport surcharge on the train when I return - absolutely outrageous - the government could have picked the stations up for a song when the company went broke but decided not to, now there is a $16 “access fee” for visiting the airport stations on top of the normal fare.

It must be a day for a whinge :icon_wink:

That’s my day so far, enjoy yours.

Take care…

Good morning from southern Hampshire.

This heat has been unrelenting. Went to the seafront yesterday and there wasn’t a breath of wind anywhere. Looks like its going to be another stifling hot sticky day here. Temperatures going to rise another few degrees over the next couple of days. It really needs a good thunderstorm to clear the air.

Have a good day all…

Good morning!
Clear, sunny, warm

I was up early - coffee, Tai chi; put some washing in the machine; did last night’s washing up … Oh, the excitement!

I have a dentist’s appointment early afternoon, and I really must check the car - oil, water, tyre pressures, and a general muck out.

Morning all – another hot sunny day today – temperatures forecast to reach around 35c. There is an amber warning about the heat today and a red warning for tomorrow!

Yesterday evening we had a huge thunder storm (happened 30 minutes after I had watered the garden!) Around 6.00 pm there was a brilliant flash of lightning followed by a tremendous bang – it appears a house a short distance away was struck and was on fire! I am scared of thunder storms (blame my Mother!) and was praying we wouldn’t get any more!

My neighbours, who flew off to Spain on Sunday, telephoned last night to check I was OK. Said they could ask their daughter to call in on me if I wanted! Thanked them but said it wasn’t necessary – told me if I should ring her if I needed help! I really do have the best neighbours

Local radio seems to be concentrating on two topics this morning – football and the heat! I know we don’t get these temperatures very often but do we need to be constantly told to stay out of the sun and drink plenty of water!

I had planned to go into town today, but as buses are not air conditioned I think I will leave it until the temperature drops!

Take care – have a wonderful day

I am the same when I am here but rip off banks charge a foreign conversion fee on every transaction made overseas so I will only use my credit card for big transactions like car hire.

It is not so much the temperature but the fact that Britain is so humid, in keeping with being the driest continent humidity here on hot days is usually below 30%, that makes high temperatures bearable. We do occasionally get humid days but they are very rare.

@Bruce I just noticed you have started this thread a month in advance , it must be all the english money,
You should be able to change to June , or leave it , may confuse some though …

Quite right. If it wasn’t for the humidity, it would be tolerable. But it seems worse at night, for some reason.

Too hot - around 30C at the moment. Most of us are five just just wasting away in the heat but the couple have gone to London. Sadly, we have just a few more days before they go back home to Georgia…
