Good morning to you all on this cool overcast Tuesday only managed 20°.
Had 10mm rain overnight which was possibly over egging the pudding but it was dry when I took the dog for his walk early.
Had a go at getting rid of some of the plants in the front of my garden by digging up the roots. Put them in the green bin but now I can’t move the green bin. I will have to wait until the soil has dried out a bit and try to recover some of it from the bin.
Have been looking on line at tyres but no nearer deciding where to go or what to get. Toyo, Yokohama or Bridgestone seem to be the best bet for all terrain tyres. Hankook are good but noisy on bitumen.
Was supposed to look for a present for my grand nephew who’s birthday is this weekend but what do you buy for a one year old? He would probably get more pleasure out of the box my camera came in than anything else but a book will have to do.
Getting awfully close to Christmas isn’t it? I don’t think it is too early to mention the “C” word now (is it?)
Morning all – cold wet and grey this morning – top temperature today forecast at 3c with it dropping to below zero tonight – my smart meter is already showing I am “over budget”!!
Neighbours telephoned last night – they were in port so had connection – apparently they were sitting in a hot tub enjoying some sunshine and a gin and tonic! Don’t know if the beast is planning a nasty surprise for them when they get back but I just may!
The birds are lined up on the garden wall awaiting their turn on the feeders. The smaller birds seem happy to wait their turn but the pigeons and collared doves are chasing each other off! I had a bit of a shock yesterday, nipped into the shop to buy some more fat balls, they usually come in packs of 8 – they now come in packs of 10 but the price has increased by £1
The beast was patiently waiting for her breakfast this morning, no little gifts overnight. I thought she might be lonely so tried to fuss her and was promptly put in my place by her walking away and sitting with her back to me.
Take care – hope everyone has a great day
UPDATE - it is now snowing here in S. Gloucestershire!
Good morning - Dull and damp at the time of writing but forecast to brighten up later. No snow this far south. I didn’t do any of the gardening I said I might yesterday but hope to get out there later when the ground becomes drier.
I’ll be phoning a friend today. One that I was at school with. It’s his day for turning 80. Our birthdays are 10 days apart. We used to celebrate by going out for a curry in a restaurant just along the road from here but times change. It is only a few hundred yards from both our houses but we liked a few drinks along with the meal and my friend unfortunately has trouble walking there these days. How times change.
My friend in Doncaster is also turning 80. We met in while on holiday in Jersey many years back and used to go for brisk walks along the clifftops together before breakfast, Yes, times certainly change. Fortunately, I still have a fairly fast walking pace. Got to be thankful for that I suppose.
Morning everyone, nice to see you all getting on with life as usual this morning…
I awoke to a scene from the ‘Revenant’ minus the bears. It had been snowing gently all night and settled on trees, gardens and walls, fortunately not much on paths.
This is what Foxy’s modest plot looked like…
So being the intrepid tenacious explorer and adventurer that I am, I donned my most substantial pair of walking shoes (Merrell’s) and set about my 3.5 mile canal towpath walk. The Merrell’s don’t make good running shoes but I still managed quite a few good stretches just to keep warm you understand…
This was the scene on the lane at the end of the towpath…
So you got snow then @OldGreyFox, as predicted. I’ve been looking at the weather in England, freezing temperatures One of my students has gone for a few days in London, I warned her it would be particularly cold, she doesn’t mind, she likes the snow! . I just hope we don’t get any this year, I just can’t stand it, also because I live in open countryside and the council snow ploughs never clean our roads, just the main ones down in the village , leaving us stranded
I really shouldn’t complain with our 12 degrees today, but I’m dreading this strong southwest wind which is heading our way .
Good morning from the land of warm cold fronts! The first one of the season I passing through, dousing us in sheets of rain, but I shall not fuss about it, given that the same system iced up the roads where my sister lives.
My daughter has a major kinesiology exam this morning, and she asked me to help her prepare, which we did until nearly three this morning. If you ever watched “Fifty First Dates” that well-describes the memory challenges she had for several years, so despite her still having an occasional bump in the road, her working- and short-term memory are so much better. Even late night tutoring is a pleasure, watching her learn and retain the material so well. We have since made the 1.5 hour drive to the university this morning, but I could use a glass or two of sleep.
New idiom for me. I like it!
Oh, heck yes it is!
For the littlest ones, I have mylar balloons sent with colorful bright foiling that they can enjoy from a safe distance. Or, I ask their moms.
I am sure the birds are grateful! Is there a less expensive way to make your own?
Snow? Wow! The first one is always so pretty
@mart, Happy Birthday to the octogenarians! The best pleasures are the simplest ones; enjoy the phone chats and the strolls!
Last year it rarely dropped below freezing here Rose, and I was in shorts the whole year round. But just when you get too complacent nature throws you a curved ball.
The last time we had any serious snow was my last winter as a postman, 2009/2010 It was quite a harsh snowy winter the following year in 2010/2011 but being retired I could watch it through the window.
I never used to mind the snow too much except the days after when it had frozen and it made it very hard to run on…This was returning from a long Sunday run in 2010…
I can assure you that if it ever snowed where Iive there would be mass evacuations,it only ever gets below 10° at night and then never below 5° (OK perhaps one in fifty years)
Late arvo I suddenly realised that I was still wearing yesterday’s clothes and hadn’t had a shower - on spring days I usually have a shower after my early morning walk but on this day I got carried away with little jobs and I forgot!
What a lovely snow, OGF. It looks like something out of a storybook. Intrepid of you to get out there for a walk before tackling home appliances. Nicely done!
Very, very, brave of you @OldGreyFox, out in the snow in shorts .
You must be used to it, by what you’ve told us, you’re practically a professional marathon runner
