A few weeks ago I joined U3A, The University of the Third Age, which is a social group for people who have retired, with branches all around the country
They have monthly meetings on general subjects, talks, and so on
They also have interest groups, and this morning I’m going to the history/local history group
I’m not sure what they have planned, I’ll see how I go on
Must finish now, it starts at 10-30!
Well, it is official, after raining all day this year is Sydney’s wettest year on record and there are still nearly 3 months to go. Really fed up with the weather.
Drove to Sydney and back early this morning in the pouring rain.
Morning all!
Lawn is watered. Weather has been perfect for several days now.
Had a great masterclass yesterday. Hoping to have a nice talk on the phone today. Been snacking on the dried watermelon.
Have an incredible day everyone.
Well, I’ve just returned from the U3A meeting, which was an interest group, not a larger general meeting
There were about 12 people, all pleasant & friendly
We had been asked to bring a historical item and give a short talk on it. There were -
One person was the son of a policeman, and brought his 1920s handcuffs
Another brought his certificate from becoming a Queen’s Scout, sometime in the 1950s
Various old postcards & birthday cards
Small pottery jugs, souvenirs from her mother’s visit to the Tower of London
The annual report from a local council, dated 1919, which included the statement that now we’ve defeated the Hun, it is the council’s intention that no child shall go underfed or without sufficient clothing
A Victorian newspaper advert encouraging people to go and work in the local cotton mills, as that would be employment for life, with plenty of jobs for 12 year olds, both boys and girls
All this prompted a general discussion, accompanied by tea & biccies
