Good Morning Thursday 5th September 2024

Good Morning to all this bright bin day. I am a bit late this sunny, warm 30° day.

Have been a bit busy converting a 32 bit Windows 10 to a 64 bit version (it was 32 bit WIN 7 originally) but a laptop I really liked from about a decade ago - recently changed the drive to an SSD. The conversion went well so I stuck in 16Gb of RAM. Feeling a bit smug after that. :icon_wink:

After this I set about butchering an old case of quite useful screwdriver bits with my multitool.

I wanted to replace the handle which had lost its ball bearing (!) so the bits fell out in use, the new one has a powerful magnet but as you can see was much longer than the original - the old tool is just visible top right. Quite pleased with that job too.

Now all that remains is my walk and remembering to put the bins out for the truck in the morning.

Have a wonderful Thursday all who follow here…

Good morning - A rainy start to the day and due to keep up by the look of it.

Hoping to be back from the hospital (pre-op) in time for the usual Thursday lunchtime pint of beer and a bag of crisps with a friend.

Have a good day everyone

Morning all – the heavy rain forecast for last night didn’t happen but we have grey skies and light rain this morning – heavy rain forecast for this afternoon :umbrella:

Found my way to a different shopping centre yesterday as it had an open bank branch and, bonus, it also had an open sub-post office so was able to post the letter to Mum

Well, this morning I did it again! I put my pills next to my plate, ate my breakfast only to realise the pills were still there, this is the second time I have done that so I think I may be on the downward slope!

Plan today is to meet up with the usual bunch of miscreants for coffee and if my knee feels OK may even join the exercise class beforehand! Really need to do something as my neighbour brought in cupcakes yesterday afternoon and today one of the ladies is bringing in cake as it was her birthday on Tuesday. I am beginning to think there is a conspiracy to ensure my waistline doesn’t get any smaller (perhaps other ladies don’t like the competition )

Product review!! I suffer with excessive perspiration, having to shower and change my clothes around mid-day is not unusual. Browsing the supermarket shelves I noticed an antiperspirant which claimed to last 48 hours (why anyone would want an antiperspirant to last 48 hours I don’t know :icon_confused:), anyway I decided to give it a go – tried it yesterday and can say it made no difference at all!

Take care – have a great day

Good morning everyone.

A dull looking day here which gives the impression that rain is not too far away. At least it kept away for the dog walk, it must have been because I wore my mac! We went on the usual walk today, across the playing field and onto the fields. Yesterday I tried a different walk where I needed to use the car to get to the walk - I did this mainly because Annie dog isn’t too fond of car journeys and I’m getting her ready for our holiday later this month where she will need to be in the car. She was absolutely fine for the short journey yesterday so I’m hoping that by taking her for short rides she is getting used to being in the car. The walk was lovely too, alongside the River Nene, I shall do that one again next week I think. I saw a Crane beside the river, I wish I had taken a picture of it now - I shall if I see it next time. There was also a narrow boat going past and I though what a lovely way to travel.

Not much planned for today, I have just made a batch of apple pies to freeze - I have loads more apples on the tree and am doing a swap with an elderly gentleman who lives around the corner from me - a hollyhock plant from him for some Bramleys from me. I offered my sons some apples and both asked if they came covered in pastry!

Happy Thursday everyone.

Just had an almighty rain storm and a clap of thunder so loud it could be felt in the house. Never ever heard one like it, must have been right overhead. Just got my head down for a pm snooze as usual when the guy to fix a bedroom widow opening lever turned up unexpectedly. lucky I was in.

Since rain and tools are the theme for the day, who am I to shift gears?

It has been raining for almost 48 hours, off-and-on, which has grounded my morning run, but that’s ok with the thousand and eight things I need to do to get ready for arriving company later this afternoon. As it happens, I was trying to open a hand-held, made-in–China bubble machine (that was my first mistake, right there) to add a battery, but the (unnecessary) screw was stripped. I found a multi-tool to try to dislodge the thing, but with no luck (not enough force?), I asked my son to give it a try, and he flipped the screw head around to a finer point and removed it almost instantly.

In my profound and universal ignorance, I had no idea that it held an additional screw head inside :woman_facepalming:. It’s funny how a discovery of such a simple and obvious thing can spark satisfaction - and self-loathing at the same time . Sometimes the burn of knowledge is a very slow thing.

Moral of the story; Never use a machine when a simple bubble wand will do :sunglasses: :bubbles:

Stay dry and have a nice day!

Late this afternoon. We had the wee dog in the early morning. Then my wife went to the osteopath. Then we had the cleaning lady for a few hours… Then we had the grocery man. Then another stroll .

Is this the latest good morning ever?
Cold with some light rain during my walk/jog along the canal towpath this morning, but a full English breakfast at Tesco made all the difference… :yum:
Glad I’m not a veggie… :009:

You’re absolutely right RS nothing worse than not having the right tool, apart from sets of spanners I have accumulated a few sets over the years myself which come in handy.

Half inch drive sockets (used to be imperial now metric

A set of quarter inch drives

Then a few impact drives, just in case.

Not to mention a couple of sets of handy bits

Then one might need to make the odd hole

or tap the odd thread for one’s camera gear

Men and their toys eh? Where would we be without them?

A very impressive tool selection there Bruce… :+1:

Thanks OGF, some are pretty old, I do a lot less now than I used to but I thought @realspeed would enjoy them.

My only mistake was originally buying a Makita battery drill because for the same price as a single Makita tool you could buy two Ryobi tools but once you start you are stuck with the battery system. It’s a moot point now I guess I definitely don’t need any more.

You have not shown the electric toothbrush Bruce, You must have one among your tool kit

No, but I have never owned an electric toothbrush, have you?

Here are some roos, just for you

I must agree about the electric toothbrush Bruce…Never had one, and despite what the adverts tell us, I think you can do a far better job with a manual brush…
Toothbrush

I don’t think I’d like one battery for all my power tools Bruce, when it runs out the job stops until it’s charged…

I actually have three (used to have four - one is deceased)) but in practice I don’t think one has ever run out mid job, they last an amazing amount of time, a lot of power in a small space.

Currently I have a 1.5Ah, 3Ah and 5Ah battery, I just buy what I can afford at the time, I think the 5Ah one was a Christmas gift from my kids.
