Good morning everybody on this warm but partly overcast day.
BOM said no rain today so I was out there early with my cheap Chinese Roundup spraying the fence line and the kerb.
As soon as that was done it was off to BWS (Beer Wines Spirits) to get a slab of beer for Christmas, as usual the nice young man took it out to my car for me. When this was safely aboard I followed it up with a trip to Bunnings to buy some LED light for my garage to replace the remaining fluorescent lights. I also bought a 2ft(ish) one to replace the fluorescent light in my laundry - the one on the verandah will have to wait until I am dragged kicking and screaming further into the 21st Century (actually that’s because I only just remembered it)
A little while later I was off to Big W to buy something for secret Santa this year - I ended up buying a label maker and some handy kitchen items as I could find nothing else for the right price ($50 and genderless).
I prefer not giving presents these days - long ago I decided to give money in a card then they can buy what they really want, when they want it. Ho hum so much simpler…
Soon it will be time to ponder the excitement of bin day tomorrow though only the recycling and the landfill bin need to go out tonight.
Am thinking I have lost the battle to revive a little tree/plant that my son had forgotten was in his car, by the time he found it it was well past its best, I will give it another week or so to see if anything green sprouts from it before it joins the choir invisible as a stick.
Morning all , Im still on a high from the Concert I went to last night , @Surfermom wish you could have been there . maybe you can cause it was recorded for BBC Radio 3 and will be on Dec 10 , we had a rehearsal of clapping before it started lol , , 200 Choir singing and the BBC Concert Orchestra gave me goose bumps , they raised the roof .
Its a dark overcast day here with Rain and high winds forecast .
Morning all – rain this morning with heavy rain and strong winds forecast for later – oh joy!
Oh dear Bruce, that plant looks like every plant I have ever had to care for! Some people have green fingers – I have brown thumbs!!
That concert sounds amazing Eliza!
My neighbour texted to say she had a surprise for me (didn’t know whether to be excited or scared!), she called in and had a chocolate Advent calendar for me (together with her weekly supply of cupcakes!). I really do have the best neighbours!
My investigation of the bus into the city was a big let down! First the bus which advertised as being “direct” wasn’t, took almost an hour to get into town. I wanted to use that service when my relatives are here as it is one of the few where you can actually buy a ticket on board. Decided that wasn’t the bus for me so for the journey home I went a different route. That one is a “tap on tap off” service, basically you tap your debit card when you get on and tap it again when you get off to pay for the journey. I have never used that system as I have a bus pass (being an old crone!) Spoke to the driver and asked if I could “tap” my debit card twice to pay for others – apparently not!! I am sure that can’t be right so I have emailed the company to double check
Plans today are to meet with the “girls” for coffee, cake and gossip and then grocery shopping.
A bit milder today at 11 degrees C and I decided on a walk instead of the usual jogging.
There was lots of overnight rain with plenty of standing water and puddles, you have to be careful of not getting drowned by passing traffic on the main road. Thankfully, no wet shetting today…
Passed by the old church that was built when AD was still in three figures…900 and something, they knew how to build stuff in those days. Interesting to see all the new houses that have sprung up around it, I doubt any of them will last that long…
@Bruce, that’s good move to change out those fluorescents. As a member of the Dragging of Feet Club, we changed out the dozens of ceiling flood lights throughout the house and couldn’t be happier. They have a setting that is warm and work on a rheostat switches without flickering they save the regular ladder climbing to swap out the dead incandescents. I hope that beer lasts you longer than Christmas, or the forum will have to sit you down for a chat . Good call on your gift-giving strategy. Your fiddle leaf fig might still make it, but it looks pretty sad.
@Eliza, I am tickled pink that your concert was so enjoyable! I will be sure to check to see whether it plays here. Thank you, and I will keep my ear out for your perfectly executed applause .
@OldGreyFox what a lovely church! It must be nice to have all those connections to the past around you. There is something very calming about knowing we are part of a very big and very long book.
@Sheila, that bus situation sounds tricky. I can’t imagine you wouldn’t be able to do multiple taps; families would definitely need that ability. I do like the idea of being able to use a card instead of other methods of payment.
This is crunch day; I’ve taken the dogs in to get their nails clipped and am about to execute “Dog Factory,” the lengthy sopping week process of showering the dogs before the drive to Virginia tomorrow. We are renting a small cabin with a fenced yard, so the dogs will love it! Then it’s all about preparing the picnic food, and getting everything packed. It’s a lot of work for a twenty minute wedding! I’ll be sure to get a run in this afternoon when the temperatures warm up a bit.
