Good morning to you all on yet another cool winters day.
It was overcast when I set out on my walk this morning, in fact I am sure I felt a few spots of rain though nothing became of it. In the local park were a flock of parrots/lorikeets etc Mostly Corellas and Galahs with a couple of interlopers thrown in.
Went to a talk on scams by the manager of the local Commonwealth Bank which was quite interesting.
Apart from that not much else to report from me, I think I got a free 500gm tin of coffee from Coles. I scanned it, machine beeped and didn’t object when I put it in my bag so it accepted the weight. When I got home I found the receipt was for $9 something. The coffee was $22 alone! Some days you are just lucky I guess.
I also noticed that diesel was down to $2.11/litre at the servo, still over 50c a litre more than before the USA’s adventure in Iran.
Anyway my bins are already out for collection tomorrow so you just have a good Thursday.
Talking of Freebies, I got a free bunch of green Bananas in my online shop , I had read that online shoppers get something free now and then , my last freebie was a packet of very sweet sweets
Good morning!
Dull, raining & cold – I put my heating on for a couple of hours!
Plans for today are to clean the kitchen floor & bathroom, have a shower, then start on Summat Proper
Thanks to my prolonged flu bug I’ve hardly done anything interesting, like hobbies or reading, so I’ll start on something interesting, like wooden jewellery pendants or knife making – or both!
Though it will probably be thinking/planning /sorting to start with
If you’re interested Search YouTube for ‘fitting knife handles’ and ‘Ricardus wooden jewellery’.
Our local council demonstrate the intelligence and bird brain power. Wheelie bins! normal people would use a green one for garden waste which is logical. OH NO !not ours. they designated brown wheelie bins for that purpose.
I live in Burnley, and for years I thought that the general non recycle-able waste used a dull brown wheelie bin
Only a few months ago I found out that the colour’s official name is Claret, after the local football team
That aside, I’m sure that most people are willing enough to use recycling bins, but the councils really need to get themselves organised and use a standard scheme & colour code across the whole country
They are not just for garden waste are they? Now you throw food in too (FOGO).
I don’t mind what colour it is (mine is actually green) as long as it is different from the Red and Yellow bins. Brown puts me in mind of The Young Ones series and Neil.
Today I noticed a yellow recycling bin that someone had sprayed red I wonder if they wanted extra landfill bin space and wasn’t prepared to pay for it - Council rates only charge for landfill, the recycling and green bins are 240 litres, the landfill bin can be 80L, 120L or 240L. Mine is 80L and I only put that out every couple of weeks, even then most of my waste is soft plastics. My recycling bin only goes out about once a month.
In Burnley we have recently been issued with grey bins or caddies with lids to recycle food waste, both trimmings/peelings and uneaten cooked food & meals
There is a small one about 5l which you line with a biodegradable bag and keep on the end of the bench or a corner of the kitchen
When this is full you remove & tie the bag and put it in a larger bin, about 25 or 30l, and put it out once a week for collection
These bins have become known as ‘Mummy Caddy’ and ‘Baby Caddy’
That sounds similar to our system, the council give you a little bin and a supply of starch based compostable bags to use, when the bag is full we throw them in the green bin and the whole lot is shredded and composted.
I have never used my little bin, I am buggered if I am giving them my compost! It sits neglected out the back until I can find a use for it. My supply of bags goes to friends or acquaintances that use the service.
I rarely use my green bin I compost most of my green waste like grass and leaves however if I chop down a branch or a shrub I usually cut that up to fit in the green bin that week.
Morning all – heavy rain overnight and more rain today – temperature forecast to reach 17c!
Went for the blood test yesterday – now have to wait to hear the results. Also received a phone call, before being referred to the dermatologist they need to take a photo - booked for Saturday at 11.30
Recycling not collected again yesterday – last collected 3 weeks ago! Tried to report missed collection but Local Authority website states it can’t be reported! Hopefully they will pick it up today – the food waste must be getting very ripe! (I have enclosed it in 3 recyclable bags!)
Had someone call yesterday to quote for replacing my garage doors – they are getting a bit heavy for me to lift so I want them replaced with electric ones
Today is the usual get together with the girls, followed by food shopping and pick up medication from the pharmacy
We changed to electric rollers garage doors, they don’t take up any ground. Space and alarmed as well.well worth getting with the remote to open and close while staying in the car. Dead lazy we is
