The rain is on its way to New Zealand so all is well with the world. The surfers are in their element, there were 13 metre waves at Port Kembla yesterday.
The ground is saturated of course, it seems this climate business is always feast or famine. In the whole of June I had 2.5mms of rain yet in the first three days of this month my garden has recorded 95mm (over 200mm north or south of me). The sea off the Wollongong coast is still 19° ie warmer than the air no wonder we are getting storms.
I put my generator away earlier after running it for 10 minutes just to circulate the oil etc. Didn’t need it myself though the winds did blow trees onto power lines around me my power stayed on.
Last night I designed and printed a lens cap for my camcorder which was quite successful you can read about it here:
I washed my Ooodie and a cardigan this morning which could be the most exciting thing I do today. (though it is bin day tomorrow so there is that job to come this arvo.)
Good morning everyone, I’m enjoying the cool air this morning, before we hit 40C again later on. Yesterday evening I went for a stroll in town with a friend, the 2nd July celebrates the town’s patron Our Lady of Grace, streets lined with market stalls, drinks, food, the lot! The long walk and chat was lovely but at 30C with humidity, it felt like a sauna!
Shopping this morning, I’m leaving before 8am, aiming to grab my usual parking space in the shade.
It’s getting hot at night too, I’ve started leaving windows opens, luckily we have blinds we can leave down, I didn’t have to do this last Summer, temperatures were much lower.
I finally got all the grass and weeds cut, it took two hours yesterday morning for the tractor guy to go through it all with the mulcher attachment, while two other workers went around the smaller areas with grass-cutters, these difficult, slopy areas can’t be reached with a tractor. He’s a good person, always charges us less than he usually would, in honor of his friendship with my husband, and they do the job very well. At last I can go for a stroll now, without worrying about getting a surprise sighting of a wild boar hidden between the tall weeds!
Have a good Thursday forumers, send me some cool air please.
Clear blue skies to start the day and a pleasantly warm high of 27C predicted. Just right for the regular Thursday lunchtime pint at the pub. In the pub garden today I reckon
The builders will carry on with the garden room building today. It would be nice if the suppliers send some windows for it. Fingers crossed.
Quite a late one for me, actually slept in until 07:30
A consequence of sleeping badly though the recent hot weather I think. A glorious morning here weatherwise, sunny but not hot and humid.
I’ve got to pick up some decent sized freezer bags. Tomorrow is maggot buying day. I’ll just need a couple of pints to tide us over the next few days. The trick is to pack them up tightly in a poly bag and pop them in the fridge, they stay fresh for ages!
You can get away with things like that when you’re single
I’m going to pop a small stash of Angel Delight in the post…
My buddy lives right out in the sticks in North Wales and finds it difficult to get the chocolate mint variety. Her nearest small shop/post office is a twenty minute drive away! I must be careful not to post the maggots by mistake, not a good way to keep friends
Morning all – a bright sunny start to the day but not too hot
The beast stayed in the garden until around 7.00 last night – and only left 1 little gift this morning!
There is a magpie which visits my garden and bullies the smaller birds away from the bird feeders so each time I see it I chase it away. Yesterday it came back mob handed bringing 3 of its mates with it! Can I now expect to be dive bombed whenever I go into the garden?
The plan for today was the usual get together with the girls but I may not be able to make it. I am desperately in need of a haircut and managed to get an appointment with the hairdresser for this morning (she had a cancellation).
Good Morning From Foxy’s World…
Cool air on its way Rose…
Quite a bit cooler this morning but still bright and sunny and just right for sticking in ten reps at a steady pace. Meeting the daughter and hubby this morning and taking them to their favourite garden centre, and mine too as it happens…The food is excellent and so I’ll have dinner there instead of this evening. Dinner in Yorkshire is at lunchtime to everyone else…
Just received a load of bumpf from BT, apparently its time to change over my landline to ‘Digital Voice’ I’ve already got the fibre optic cable to the house, some other company put it in before I cancelled it. I had to rewire it myself though because all of my internet stuff (router) is in the loft and they just left it dangling down the wall…
The 3rd of July 1972 is a day I always remember (no not because I got married to Mrs Fox in October that year) its the day I started work as a skilled engineer after coming out of my apprenticeship and getting a new job in a custom built factory. I went on to work there for 22 years, and would probably have still been there had I not been made redundant in 1994 I did stay on for another six months under contract to help them move all the equipment to Torpoint in Plymouth.
Happy days…
In my youth/teens I had a fishing friend who use to breed his own maggots - from memory he had a small cage made of fly screen wire into which he put some chicken pieces and a blow fly. After some time the chicken was full of plump maggots. (I think that was how he did it)
I know here for river fishing they will hang some road kill from a tree branch over a river, apparently the maggots drop into the river to attract the fish acting like burley.
Don’t know much about it myself but fishing is so popular here that it is impossible not to know someone that fishes.
Yes, it is possible to easily breed maggots although I think you’d need a reasonable sized garden, probably not very nice when the wind blows in the wrong direction
Some years ago I bought some pinkies, a small type of maggot used as loose feed. Unfortunately I crammed too many into the bait box. They got all hot and sweaty forcing the lid off…oh dear! My late wife was not impressed! If only I’d kept them in the fridge
