Very pleasant weather if a little windy, temperatures in the low 20s but the next few days should be warmer.
I had a very enjoyable day out yesterday with the Illawarra Veteran Club at Bombo. I expected much older cars but they were mostly cars I have known people own as their regular car eg MG A, MG B, E type Jag, Mk 2 Jag 1959 Hillman Minx, Frog Eyed Sprite and so on, in a way it made me feel old! I mean I don’t think of a Holden Torana as old, I used to watch them race at Bathurst. There were a couple of Yank cars that I was not familiar with.
Seniors meeting this morning, hence my late post, after the meeting I found I had lots to do, apart from the minutes there were letters and emails to be written. It is all done now thank gawd.
Some bedding arrived today, very colourful but too much polyester for my taste, washed it and it is on the line now.
Am just about to take my bins out for collection in the morning.
Good morning - Another dry and bright day ahead, albeit somewhat shorter than previous days as the countdown to the shortest day marches on.
Can’t seem to stop spending money lately. Oh well, if we don’t spend it someone else will. We got the already mentioned new bed a couple of days ago and yesterday bought a cordless vacuum cleaner. Hard to find anything that works as good as the Henry vacuum cleaner but we wanted to find something that Mrs mart can handle.
We went to the local shop and chose one but it was out of stock, so ordered it online. I hope it will be OK. The store couldn’t demonstrate the one on show because people have nicked all the batteries from the vacuums on display. What a situation!. I suggested they should keep the batteries in a locked drawer or cupboard.
A bus trip to and from the hospital fairly early for Mrs mart’s blood test.
Have best day possible day everyone. Sympathies to those going though difficulties or ill-health
Good morning!
Dry, sunny, clear blue sky, but noticeably colder than it has been for months
I have a few errands in town this morning -
Dentist for a filling
Get a mini statement
Post the earrings I bought in Whitby to my daughter
Make an appointment at the optician for a routine check up
Do some shopping at the community shop
@mart I too have a Henry vacuum cleaner and although it works well enough I’m finding it’s getting more cumbersome & awkward to lug around and up & down the stairs; so I too am thinking of getting a modern cordless stick vacuum cleaner, but the problem is which one? - there are so many
I would like one that converts into a shorter hand held type so I could also use it for my car
I’ve had a browse round Curry’s and got confused
My daughter has a Shark, though I don’t know which model, and she’s happy enough with it
That’s the beauty of our age, it’s spend, spend, spend. Saving is a thing of the past.
Me too, All BSAs - B30, B33, C11G and an A10.
I briefly owned a Mark 10 Jag in London, bought it at auction for £5 because it had a ding in the door, secondhand Jags were worthless, if you could afford to run one you would buy a new one. This one had three months rego so I drove it until the rego ran out then parked it and left it.
At my/our age I have just about everything I need in the way of clothes & domestic stuff, but for several years now I’ve noticed that prices are rising faster than the interest rates, so if I do want anything I don’t hesitate
We’ve had our hands more than full for the last few days dealing with my Father in law, who has now been moved from hospital and is now in a hospice, receiving end of life care, as he is beyond any medical help. Naturally, Mrs G is beyond traumatised with all of this, but has accepted the inevitable, which could be in a few days, maybe weeks.
We will be visiting him every day as the rules for the hospice are extremely relaxed and bringing him some of his favourite things from home. I have been getting some of his favourite photos of mine printed and put up on a wall for him to look at.
I have never had dealings with hospices before and was quite taken back when shown around one. Each room is almost like a hotel room, with every amenity provided for. There is a large-ish garden they can put him in, whilst still bedbound, with flowers, water fountain, a sun house and so on. Visitors are accommodated with private rooms, coffee/tea rooms etc.
So for now, he his comfortable, although his medications are being scaled down as they are ineffective and we wait for the phone to ring.
Just had a couple of joh, witness to the front door . They can’t believe they are in being part of a cult, brain washed to the nth degree, Can’t they think for themselves instead of being told they must make X number of house calls month.
This time they wanted to know my thoughts on war. How damn thick and stupid these peole are.Don’t they realise it is human nature to fight to get what one wants if there is no other way. Even animal fight.
AS I said brainwashed to ask certain questions and unable to work it out for themselves
I don’t shove my beliefs down others throats that is my personal business and nobody elses
now got that out of the way
Still getting loads more acorns out of the garden. So far 15 large industrail plastic bags one can just about lift have gone to the council dump. thank goodness that blower is working how it should be
Graham
My mother went to ST Christopher hospice for the last few day of her life. They had her on a perminant feed into her body to ease the pain from cancer. their kindness and care could not have been better.
Her last wish was to go back to Cornwall where she was born and brought up. while there she got worse so Sue and I did a round trip there and back to Surrey. I had a Volvo 245 GL estate and took her to the hospice with her laid out in the back on cushions etc. Private ambulance far to expense for that distance there and back
Sorry to hear that you are still in hospital Swimmy and struggling with your heart issues. I wish you all the best and hope they can repair your heart enough to be able to go home.
Man Hugs…
Old people are such a worry Graham, I remember sitting in the A&E for hours with my mam when she discharged herself from hospital and I had to take her back because she was no where near fit enough to come home. They only gave her some more medication and sent her home where she later passed away…I think she knew her end was near and wanted to be in the bungalow she loved. I often think about that long wait with her, and wish I could have said more than I did…
I wondered where all our old vehicles had disappeared to Bruce, it sounds like they are all down in Australia. Perhaps you will take old geezers too who would like to end their life somewhere warm…I’m not liking this cold weather and it’s not winter yet…
Having said that, I went out for my usual walk/jog along the canal towpath. I felt really good this morning, and although chilly, managed to do lots of steady jogs under a cloudless sky.
The mornings are drawing in though and causing me to sleep later than normal, It’s still dark at six and I just roll over and go back to sleep.
I love chatting to JoH witnesses, if I have the time that is. I don’t mind them trying to convince me to join their religion, if they can offer up a good explanation why I should. They never can, and these days tend to pass by my house when they are in the neighbourhood…I wonder why?
I hate door to door salesmen/women Bruce, if I want something I will call them.
I know they are only trying to do their job and advertising the fact by visiting, but why can’t they just shove a flyer through my door.
They want to make it easier by giving me credit, of course I will make a decision to spend 6 grand on a new block paved drive while standing on the doorstep with someone who I don’t know from Adam…
@Graham I am so terribly sorry for your wife. I know this is a such a painful and precious time. It’s good to know that your FIL is settled into hospice. It is such a blessing.
@Swimfeeders, you have a fighting spirit and a mighty tough heart. Stay with it and behave yourself!
My mother used to let people of any religious affiliation into the house, but it always turned out to be an education for them. She would offer them a cool drink and lead them through Socratic debates, challenging their thinking and asking for contextual support from their religious texts. She was a very open-minded person when it came to spiritual and religious thought, always encouraging people to find their own paths and dive deeper than just memorization of their religious texts. The soliciting religious types usually left the house exhausted .
My head is about as far from religion as it can get this morning. The speakers are blown out on the television, so determined to make some effort to repair it (rather than placing it at the curb) I have the back of the thing off in hopes that I can replace the. I think I can find the replacement parts but it looks like they are partially soldered in place. While I have used a soldering gun before, I have never un-soldered, so I am hoping I can figure this all out so I won’t melt the tv, wires, and speakers - or burn the house down.
It is a glorious rainy day here - the first time we’ve had rain in over a month. If I have to postpone a run, this is the welcome reason to do so.
The only other random thought is that there isn’t a decent croissant to be found within a sixty mile radius of here. Among the trades worth supporting, good baking is most certainly one of them!
Have a good day and may you enjoy decent baked goods!
Your Mum sounds like the kind of person I would have loved to have met Surfer.
I also find other peoples religions very interesting and worthy of discussion.
How do you know it’s the speakers ?
I feed my telly’s audio through the house Hi Fi system with speakers in the ceiling.
Most tellys have good quality amplifiers but rubbish speakers, especially if it’s one of those big flat screen things.
Since I retired, the soldering iron has hardly been out of my hand…
