Good Morning Thursday 23rd November 2023

Morning all!

Happy Thanksgiving to anyone that celebrates that!

I ordered a tablet and laptop on a Black Friday special. If it arrives and works, I will save $100. :crossed_fingers: If it doesn’t, I wasted a lot of time today. :person_shrugging:

I had a bird trying really hard to get into a closed window. Made a bunch of noise. It flew off when I got there. Very weird.

Feels like a Friday night.

I’ve been trying a bunch of meditation apps to see if one might help. Not so far.

Have a good day everyone.

Mornin’ @butterscotch

I do Tai chi, which is a martial art, but not as aggressive as things like karate or judo, it’s more to do with balance, stretching, and coordination
It is made up from short standard movements called Forms which are joined together in a sequence, also called a Form, that’s why you hear people talking about ‘doing their Form’.
They have slightly quaint names derived from the old Chinese

There is a mental/meditation aspect, and Tai chi has been described as moving meditation - it just depends on how far down the Rabbit 'Ole you want to go

There are loads of YT videos - this shows it well, but there are shorter & easier ones.

Morning all.

Off into town this morning. Things to do, people to see.

Thanks! I’ve been looking into Tai chi. I’ve taken a class before, long ago. It felt a bit like a dance to me. It took concentration to do the forms. But I didn’t feel more centered when I was done. Have you done Qigong? I’ve also been checking that out.

That women in the video is doing it beautifully. It looks like a beautiful dance.

I did aikido training when I was a kid for years. A bit more aggressive than Tai chi but not as aggressive as karate, mostly.

Good Morning from Foxy’s World… :dash:
Heavy skies and dark with a strong wind swirling the leaves around, but dry and mild, just perfect conditions for a stroll down the canal towpath. So invigorating and I returned home cobweb free…Glad I decided to go out on the bike yesterday…

Tai Chi and Qigong are similar, but different; as I understand it -

Tai chi is made up of several Forms done in a sequence, and the trick is to join them into a continuous graceful longer form. As you gain experience so you do more, and more complex forms

In Qigong you repeat just one Form or movement several times to concentrate on a particular aspect of health, mental of physical, then do the next set of repetitions.

I go to a Tai Chi class once a week where we do fairly advanced Forms, but on my own each morning I do a sort of combination of simpler moves, which might not be the official or classic method, but it suits me
After a warm up I do 5 or 6 of these Forms each -

Lifting water
Open the chest
Connect Heaven and Earth
Painting the rainbow
Wave hands like clouds

Ending with Golden rooster stands on one leg, left & right, just one of each.
I hope to add a couple more forms soon
