Good Morning Thursday 19th September 2024

Good morning forum folks, the back of the week is broken, it is downhill to the weekend.

I am back in New South Wales, in Bourke on the Darling River, it used to be an inland port and offers paddle steamer rides if you like that sort of thing. Most towns are on a river which is why they flood so much even little towns like Wyandra has a beach

I should be home by Sunday.

Have a wonderful day Take care

Good morning - A grey start to the day. It might improve. I expect I’ll be going to the pub later but only if my friend can pick me up. Sitting on a bicycle saddle or walking too far can have its problems at present. A nuisance when the basic energy level is still not too bad. Oh well…

Have a good day

A couple of bad pictures taken from my Dashcam of animals fleeing for their life as I hurtle through

The first is a Roo which I missed by that much The wide angle lens makes it look a lot further away.

The second is Mummy Emu crossing the road with four chicks, I was nearing a town and going quite slowly when they strolled across. They are a bit hard to make out but are centre of the frame.

Good morning!
Still nice & sunny & fairly warm - it’s been nearly a week like this

Going into town very soon, to pay a bill at the bank and do a few other errands

Yet another coffee bar has opened in town, but this is a converted pub, and independent from all the other chains, so I’ll see what it’s like

And that’s about it.

Morning all – dull start to the day but hopefully the sun will make an appearance later

Beast asserting her dominance by not only throwing up in front of the door but also leaving another gift in the corner of the room!

Well, I am still seething from yesterday! :rage: Had to cancel my plans because my knee started hurting really badly. Finally decided I should consult a doctor, telephoned to book an appointment, I was 20th in the queue so opted for a call back. 2 hours later received the call – explained my problem and it was suggested I see the physio – earliest appointment available 8th October! In that case asked if I could see a doctor, no face to face appointments available, they will be “releasing” their next batch of appointments on 30th September for the week beginning 7th October! Seems the “caring profession” is happy for me to be in pain for the next 3 weeks! :woman_shrugging:

I have done some googling and apparently turmeric capsules with boswellia can help with joint pain so I have ordered some which should be delivered Saturday. :crossed_fingers:

Hope to make it to the coffee get together later this morning, dosed up with painkillers! Apart from that can’t see me wanting to do very much

(Apologies for the moaning – living alone I have no-one else to whine to!)

Take care – have a great day everyone

Bruce we keep our pets " ie dogs" on leads when out and about. Fancy letting a pet kangaroo loose to hop about anywhere. You could start a Kangaroo training class on how to control if owning one

Great pictures Bruce… :+1:
It’s been a very long time since I saw empty roads like that…I love the first picture of the river, seems like a place where you can meditate…

Let it all out Sheila, it’s good to get it off your chest. Have you thought about Glucosamine for your poorly knee… :leg:

You’re not on Statins by any chance are you?

Just a steady walk this morning along the towpath, the gloves were a good choice because it was overcast and cold. Not what the weatherman had predicted earlier in the week…
Two middle aged joggers passed me at a pace that I would have used across the Tesco car park to avoid the rain and pushing a trolley full of shopping… :009:
And the worse thing was…they were listening to music blaring out from a phone… :notes:
Doesn’t that sorta defeat the object of jogging out in the country?

Good afternoon forum people! :sun_with_face:
Bruce, one could be forgiven that you don’t enjoy the occasional little venture on a paddle steamer?

No work for me today although a late shift tomorrow…

So I went into town, paid a couple of bills and indulged in a little retail therapy…

I seriously couldn’t make up my mind wether or not to pop into the boozer for a quick one, I wrestled with myself in the high street! :astonished:

I won!

Enjoy the rest of your day people! :+1:

Good morning from shiny, blue Florida!

This are spectacular photos, Bruce. Your river shot is how I imagine a good portion of the rivers in Oz and it looks like it was a nice respite. I know how you feel about kangaroos and emus in the road, but they sure are a treat for us far-flung keyboarders to see! A sighting of the emu mom and her chicks would have made my day.

@SheilaP, RICE as much as you can and I would be wary of suggestions to do too much physical therapy without a diagnosis. You sure don’t want to exacerbate a possibly injury. I hope your efforts to relieve the pain are helpful in the meantime. Perhaps there will be a cancellation with your physician.

@zuludog, @mart, and @Chilliboot, did you know that finding a pub, let alone one open in the early afternoon like you all visited are a rarity in my part of the world? For a midday beer, you are more likely to find yourself at a bar inside a restaurant. Your spot looks nice, Chilli. Congratulations on the win!.

Chilli, I love Patak’s tikka masala sauce, though I feel like I’m cheating when I use it. I’ll look for you Encona sauces at the hot sauce shop since it is a UK product.

@OGF, the natural consequence of cycling, running, walking, boating, or beaching with speakers is that you miss all the pleasures of running without them. Carry on and feel sorry for them; they know not what they miss!

It’s a glorious day here, and the humidity has abated enough that I didn’t dissolve into a puddle at the end. This is bureaucracy day here, but I am currently sitting in the parking lot at my daughter’s university waiting to make the 90-minute trip back home. Those of you who have known me long enough know she spent her teens and early twenties almost fully catatonic from an autoimmune brain disease. She is now almost fully recovered - except that she is still learning how to drive, so we are still taking turns behind the wheel. Once I can get her over that hurdle, the war we went through against this disease will be OVER. She is so close and it is so hard to think that just ten years ago she couldn’t talk, walk, eat…and she is now in her third year in college. Gee, I am proud of this girl .

Alright, I am clearly off on a tangent. Safe driving to Bruce, good healing to Shiela, good walking to Beosoker and pup, and happy sipping and hiding out to the rest of you!

So sorry to hear about what happened to your daughter, @Surfermom, and I’m so glad to hear she’s healing from such a terrible disease, it must have been a nightmare for you.
Sending best wishes for her complete recovery.

Great news about your daughter Surfermom, I remember your frequent long drives to obtain the treatment she needed. You were a rock, and I’m sure that with such a good teacher like you she will be on the road in no time.
With a daughter myself I can appreciate how proud you must feel, I sometimes feel the same when I see what a beautiful caring, sensitive woman she has grown up to be. I haven’t a clue where she gets it from…

Thank you, Rose; we are in the home stretch!

So sweet of you to acknowledge her mom, OGF!

Haha, kidding, of course…and thank you sincerely . We are both certainly blessed to have daughters!

Poor old @realspeed , your obsession with kangaroos is very endearing. Alas they are native fauna and it is illegal to keep one without a permit so no training for them.

Unfortunately most road kill is kangaroos but to be fair there is no shortage of them. I would hate to hit an emu. Actually during the day the chances of hitting either are pretty remote they tend to hide in the shade and eat at dawn and dusk (a time I try to avoid driving).

I have lived here long enough to know not to swerve but so far I have only ever hit one very small kangaroo (with my camper - the mudguard is still bent from the encounter)

Saw a lot of feral goats today, they are like sheep and tend to scuttle off when a car approaches - probably very wise, as a feral pest they are fair game.

Sorry to hear about your daughter but sounds like she is making a good recovery.

I have been on them many times, only the steam driven ones - as a first class steam engine driver I was usually allowed into the engine/boiler room at some stage.

Once you are west of the Great Dividing Range (and off the Hume Highway) all the roads are like that - it is rare to drive in front of or behind another vehicle for any length of time and overtaking is a dream.
