Good morning to everybody as we celebrate the first weekend of 2025
My grandkids, dog and their parents have left so I am once again alone in my now quiet house. I took the opportunity to wash all their bedding this morning which dried very quickly with the temps in the high 20s
Found a flaw in my batch file which copies videos and pictures from my video camera to my computer but it was easy to correct - all to do with a new year folder.
Spent some of the morning wandering around with my sprayer and cheap Chinese Roundup spraying weeds just to tidy the place up.
Wrote another letter to the Council after they again refused me a "No Parkingā sign across my driveway citing council policy. I informed them of my new āno mowā policy on the council land outside my property. As I have a corner block in the middle of the suburbās CBD my lack of mowing will be very visible. I had a similar policy 40 years ago forcing them to come along with a slasher every few months but this time I also have a watering policy to ensure verdant growth.
Actually this is a battle I wouldnāt mind losing because it takes me a lot longer to mow their grass than mine.
Good morning everyone, this is the āreturn homeā Sunday, lots of young workers who have been home for Christmas/New Year are going back up North again, including my daughter. I just dropped her off at the bus station, very sad to see her go, itās just me and my son now. Sheāll be back to visit for a few days in a couple of months, so thatās something to look forward to. Thatās the way it is, down here in the South, weāre going to end up an āover 50sā region, considering that younger generations are forced to move out to find good career opportunities.
At least, the sunās out today
Well, we finally got the snow theyāve been forecasting for weeks, or so it seems
I have food in, but I think Iāll have a walk to the local shops for fruit & veg & milk later this morning
Otherwise staying in, drinking tea, and catching up on reading
Good morning - It snowed a little in Surrey late yesterday as forecast. It turned into rain also as forecast. It is pouring with rain now at 9.15 A.M. with a temperature of 1ĀŗC. Snow has been such a rarity in this area over recent times that it just had to be photographed before it all went away. This was it around 9.00 P.M. ā¦
Got some messing around with the computers today. This should keep me occupied for a while. Family visiting later I expect.
I wish weād have snow here, itād be preferable to the driving rain and gusts
Still, itās Sunday and the furthest I have to venture is the convenience shop over the road. Iāll just have to don a full set of NATO issue waterproofs and my wellies to do so. Must remember to get some more Angel Delight
Morning all ā the snow arrived last night, fortunately not much and we have rain this morning so most of it was gone by the time I had to carry out my cat servant duties
As I had fed her before having my own breakfast (how is that for dedication!) I decided it wasnāt worth opening the door for her (it was raining) so once I have fed myself and sorted a few things hopefully the rain will have stopped and I will see if she wants to finally leave the house
Thanks Rose for the good wishes, I just canāt seem to shift the cough and sneezing, I think it is improving slightly but as this rate it is going to take some time! On the positive side it does mean I have lost my appetite so all those Christmas goodies are still waiting to be consumed!
As today is Sunday it is a day of rest so not much planned for today. Although the cleaner is due tomorrow so I may have a quick clean up (anyone else do that??)
I vaguely remember Angel Delight and I am sure Butterscotch was my favourite.
Now you have got me thinking I wonder if they still make Vesta meals, Paella was one that comes to mind. Didnāt they always market as 2 serves even though they were clearly for one because they thought people might regard themselves as losers if they were labelled for one?
Remember āYouāre never alone with a Strandā a very popular ad but a total marketing failure.
They are available on Amazon Bruce but thereās no way Iād fork out silly money for them. Next time Iām in Sainsburyās Iāll have a look if only to satisfy my idle curiosity.
Yep, one pack of Angel Delight split four ways is NOT going to yield generous portions The cheapest Iāve seen it in the supermarkets is at 70p, not bad!
I was feeling at deaths door yesterday , wheezing ,coughing ,head thumping ,all my face, eyes and gums were aching . and Yes Violent Sneezing , what ever was inside me was trying to get out .
I survived and feeling a tad better today . But not well enough for a Wedding Fayre today and Theatre trip tomorrow .
I think it might be raining now, I donāt know, I havenāt been out. Turned over in bed this morning and slept until 8:00am. I was going to try a walk but sod thatā¦
Angel Delightā¦Yum!
We used to have that every Saturday evening after our tea. You can still get it at our Tesco, but Iāll just check on Wednesday the next time Iām inā¦(weather permitting)
Strawberry was my favourite. And yes Bruce, Tesco still stock a limited supply of Vesta meals, Paella, Beef Curry (I just loved their beef chunks although I think they were simulated) and their Risotto was very tasty if I recallā¦
Thanks Rose, I seem to have got rid of the sniffles, but left with a dry cough now. Mrs Fox is soldiering on as usual, beef chunks are cooking nicely in the oven with gravy standing byā¦
Iām definitely not envious of that snow, thatās the one thing I dread during these months.
Itās just that we live up on a hill in the open countryside, far from the village, so I donāt think I need to explain what a hassle it is for us.
My symptoms exactly Eliza! I even began to think I should make an appointment with the dentist because of the pain in my gums! Like you feeling slightly better today - never had something that hung on for so long!
Good morning from the dull snow-free land of Florida!
Such a beautiful snowfall many of you are experiencing, especially the fluffy wet snow that accumulates in thick blankets. It makes indoors cozy and changes everything outdoors with the way it absorbs sound and crunches underfoot. Lovely!
I am just sorry to hear that @Eliza, @SheilaP, and the @OldGreyFox household is still feeling the impact of colds. All the more reason to bundle up and stay indoors.
Just as difficult are the pangs of sending children and grandchildren off to their busy lives. I suppose we have to let them go to look forward to their return. At least we will open the doors to find food in the fridge!
@Chilliboot, I had to read up on those pipes, not knowing how old they were or that they were pre-filled and disposable. Apparently, many can be found here in the Chesapeake bay. The new word for me today is āmudlarking.ā
As soon as I finish here, I am about to decorate the outdoors with Christmas lights. . Yes, you read that right. With three days of hard freezing temperatures looming, we are wrapping all the tropical plants with lights before covering them with sheets and plastic in hopes they will survive. I suffer for the animals in this part of the world that acclimated to such conditions.
Stay warm, swim in the tea, and enjoy the view out the window!
I got these pipes as a Christmas present. Iām not sure they would fare all that well in The Thames. Not all that well here either. They seem to be decreasing in numberā¦
Nor me, if I never see snow again in my life I will be a very happy bunny.
My daughter, who of course grew up without seeing snow, is off to Japan in February for skiing and snowboarding. Madness!
Some years ago she took me to the Snowies - its a day trip from Canberra and as a pensioner I had a free car pass - while they were out snowboarding I spent the entire day in the pub dying to go home.
