Good morning all on this quiet Sunday morn. It was cold overnight (no clouds) but it has warmed up this morning and is looking good for most of the week with temps in the high teens and low 20s.
Nothing very exciting to report, I downloaded a film that @d00d recommended because it is not on Netflix here. Spent a bit of time in the garage sorting out remnants of mess from previous working.
This arvo I thought I might mow the grass once the dew has gone. The grass doesn’t grow in winter but the weeds and clover do and they make it look untidy so I thought I’d give the mower a work out, could even get the whipper snipper going (though that might be a bridge too far).
Exactly four more weeks until Spring arrives so that is something to look forward too is it not?
Anyway enjoy a peaceful Sunday everyone. Keep well.
Good morning - Quite a bit cooler this morning. Only 15C outside at the moment. Indoors is still at 22C. It always takes a while for the inside temperature to go down after a heatwave. I think the bricks act like a storage heater. Doors and windows still flung open.
A trip to the allotment first thing. I haven’t been going there as much as I should, what with one thing or another. I’ll carry on attacking the Ivy pile in our garden later. It needs cutting up and putting into the garden bin. It will take a few binloads to get rid of that lot.
We will probably get visited later by two sons and a grandson. They are still renovating a house a few miles away and often come and have their sandwiches here on Sundays. They might bring me a bacon, egg and sausage one if I’m lucky.
Another warm sunny day without the humidity, making it very pleasant out. There were a few spots of rain as I walked over the fields but that never came to anything. The forecast doesn’t include rain but then again that has happened in the past and we have had downpours! I think it’s best to rely on the clump of seaweed for a more accurate forecast
I have nothing much planned for today so shall go where the mood takes me - it will probably take me into the garden to dead-head the roses …
Morning all – overcast this morning but a promise of sunshine later
Feeling a bit grumpy today! I don’t sleep very well and thought that I would treat myself to a lie in this morning – fat chance! A nearby neighbour has a separate alarm for his garage and every morning (including weekends) he opens his garage door, sounding the alarm and he seems in no hurry to switch it off. This morning it went off at 7.15! I was just dozing off again when he decided to start up his motor bike – which he left running for some time while he went back indoors! He has been spoken to about this by others, he apologises but after a couple of days it starts up again! I have to keep telling myself it isn’t worth the jail time!
As yesterday was warm and sunny I spent the afternoon sitting in the garden, under an umbrella, reading – I am now halfway through the book I started yesterday! Hmm may have to slow down as I don’t have any new books on order – or go through my book collection and find one I haven’t read for a long time! My Italian neighbours had a visit from their grandchildren who were having a wonderful time playing in the garden - no sound better than children laughing and enjoying themselves, always makes me smile
Today’s plan is to change the sheets, a little light housework and possibly a walk around the local park
Take care – have a great day (apologies for the whinge!)
I’ve been getting through many books lately, too @SheilaP, being stuck indoors all afternoon because of the heat. I’ve read more books this month, than I have in the last ten months
Just “easy reads”, no complicated stuff. I’m reading “Shotgun Love songs”, by Nickolas Butler. It actually belongs to my daughter, a birthday present from a friend of hers, but she’s never had the time to read it because of her studies.
Good Morning Everyone, it’s good to see you are all ‘up and at it’ …
They didn’t want me for the over seventies Olympic Marathon team this time, so I walked, ran and staggered around a very fast 5 miler. Mrs Fox wasn’t very happy when she rang and I was so out of breath I could hardly speak…She caught me on one of my running bits…
I told her I was being chased by a pack of wild dogs…
Nothing much gets done at the Foxes on a Sunday…Not by me anyway…
Mrs Fox does the dinner (lunch for you posh folk darn sarf) and then she washes up the pots while I do the DJ’ing and put on the music…Usually something from the sixties or seventies, anything past the nineties is just Sh$te…
Cheryl’s car has refused to start, so I might have to go over the road and assist…I told her that we must stop meeting like this…
Afternoon awl…
We have strolled the wee dog, then went to the local store, then cut the garden, then we had a very lunch…
My sister had intended to visit us - she does most Sunday’s - bur she wasn’t well…
Morning all, been to Shebu, Arab shop: kofta for burgers, white courgettes, aubergine, peaches. The Polish shop for cherries, kefir, big tub of Russian salad & tomatoes. Back home for cold lunch, it’s a bit overcast but not too bad. woops the sun is coming through!
TS Debby has shifted east making it more likely that we won’t be hit by the time it makes hurricane status. The storm machine is on, however, so my morning first stop, after getting the dogs taken care of, is spaghettimodels.com to pore over all the nifty maps - Saharan dust, water vapor, jet stream, and tracking models. The long story short is that there are no preparations to make but there will be surf this afternoon! Right now it as flat as a pancake on the gulf…but storm season is about to start in earnest.
I just finished a painting of my dear friend’s veterinary practice. He has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and has decided not to fight it, so I wanted to do some little something to say thank you for almost four decades of being at the front line of taking care of my dogs, helping me with rescued strays, and being a such treasure of a friend. This is going to be a tough farewell.
The cabbage palms are starting another round of flowering on long six foot stems, so I am watching an entemologist’s dream up on the second level - honeybees (few), carpenter bees, bumble bees flies, and wasps breakfast on the nectar. The doves and woodpeckers aren’t doing badly either.
Good to know everyone seems to be enjoying life in a lower gear this morning - books, walking dogs, lunches, and markets of a type that we don’t have here sounds so interesting. I’m just glad to be alive and to be able to wax up the longboard one promise of surf.
