Good Morning Sunday, 27th July 2025

Good morning all on what is a cool but pleasant enough winter’s day. None of the forecast showers have fallen in my neck of the woods this weekend. Well… not so far.

Was very happy to be woken by my clock radio this morning, looks like it was just a dirty contact so normal service has been resumed, if it happens again I will dismantle it and soak the contacts in alcohol.

Realised I haven’t driven my car for over a week so took it out for a run this morning, discovered a new set of traffic lights in Unanderra (how do you pronounce that? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: )

Took a pic of my cat. Nothing like as old as my clock radio but I bought it over a decade ago and it has been banging away ever since. Have spent more on batteries than it cost me in the first place.

While on the subject of plastic things, gave the plastic wood in my doorway a final sand and splashed a bit of paint on it to see how it looked. Not perfect but good enough.

Not sure what further excitement the rest of the day brings

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Take care…

Hi

Good Morning Bruce and all who following.

Yet another brilliant post from Bruce, always a great way to start the day.

Such different lives we lead in different countries and so interesting.

Today is a busy day for a change, a lot happening to get ready for Tuesday.

The wiring needs sorting for the new mattress which is arriving then.

I will be having my head where my feet currently are, I need to be able to use the rise and fall mechanism on the bed so I can get in and out safely, so the bits under the bed will have to be moved.

The new mattress is an Apollo 8, with a full time air pump to keep changing my position in bed.

This is how our much loved NHS communicates with those who have worked, the first thing you know about your deteriorating condition is a letter like this.

If you have not worked and are on Benefits you get a Social Worker and a Support Team to explain things to you and access to a huge support set of resources to help you.

I joke you not, the first time that I knew how ill I was was a letter to say I was being helped towards my Care Costs as I was Terminally Ill and not expected to live for another 12 months.

Three years on, and I have had to reapply for that money, It is not a lot, £110 a week towards 24hr Care.

The award letter is amazing, it truly is.

After a 3 month battle, having had to send them over 50 pages of Medical Reports they already have access to, I get an envelope full of suff.

Page one is the usual Woke Drivel and then, 3 lines of we are pleased to award you the Maximum Attendance Allowance of £110.40p a week for 24 hour a day, 7 days a week.

The other few £ thousand a month I have to pay for myself.

I then get pages of how to appeal against being awarded any money at all.

All good fun, enoy your day people, every single minute if it.

Morning all…to a grey and cloudy Sunday morning here in southern Hampshire.

Today, we are off to a local county fair, many of which seem to be slowly disappearing over time. Loads of stalls (Keep Mrs G happy), steam engines, displays and stuff. Usually we’re regular visitors to most of them, but I will confess my interest is in photography opportunities they have. Mrs G will sometimes pick out a bargain, which means she’ll be in a good mood for the rest of the day. My biggest gripe with fairs is the prices they charge for things like coffee and cakes etc, which is why we’ll be well ‘coffeed-up’ before we get there and we always grab something on the way home.

Anyways, have a great Sunday all…

Good morning all! :sun_behind_large_cloud:

Off to the cinema this afternoon, I’ll get the popcorn from the venue itself but we’ll have to smuggle in the confectionery  The price of wine gums at the pictures is truly shocking! :open_mouth:

Just pottering around with housework this morning.
That county fair sounds terrific Graham… those type of events are so enjoyable! :+1:

Have a mellow day people! :sunflower:

Ay Up from South Yorkshire… :039:
A cloudy but warm dry day, just as well for my Sunday walk up the lane. Just felt like walking today but on the last mile and a half I saw a neighbour heading for the same path as me on the lane back home, not wanting to engage in passive conversation I bid him ‘good morning’ and jogged off. It was nice to be up on my toes, so I managed a couple more fastish jogs on the last mile. Thinking time is precious…
Between kittens and women with broken vacuum cleaners it’s been hard to peruse the forum this morning, so I’ll cut my losses and find a quiet space in the workshop…

Glad to hear the clock radio is good for a few more years yet Bruce, I wonder how much stuff is thrown away by people for the simplest of things…My old desktop computer is now running perfect after replacing the thirty bob button cell.

Sounds like you’ve got a fair bit of organising to do with your new bed and mattress Swim, it should keep away the bed sores and chuck you out in the mornings…
The form filling and subsequent letters are all done on computers these days Swim, and they tell you the obvious about ten times and in all different languages… :009:

What are you going to see Chilli? I love a day out at the cinema, and watching stuff on the big screen beats waiting for it to come out on the telly…

Posters on the morning thread seem to be somewhat sparse just lately…

The Fantastic Four!
I’ll just have to keep myself in check and not attempt to mimic any of those crazy, athletic Marvel style stunts on the way home…yeah right!

It has become a bit quiet here of late Foxy…peaks and troughs I guess

Films like that go down very well on the big screen Chilli, even if you’re not keen, you have to ‘marvel’ (see what I did there?) at the brilliant CGI …Scary!
I rather fancy the new dinosaur movie, we saw a clip from it the other week while watching ‘Mission Impossible’ looks good…
:+1:
Yeah, we seem to have had lots of newbies over a short period that have drifted away…
They might have all gone on holiday and be back soon…
Or perhaps some of the threads were getting a bit out of hand…

Good afternoon everyone, don’t worry Foxy, I’m still here. :001:
I’ve noticed we haven’t heard from @Eliza for some time, she used to write on the morning thread. I hope she’s OK.
Great news @Bruce, happy for you.
I have a couple of non-functioning video cameras and cameras stashed away at home, which are at least 15/20 years old, but I haven’t got the heart to throw them out. I don’t think it’s worth me finding a good, professional, trustworthy technician (almost impossible here) to have a look at them because my kids are not interested, they use their phones for videos and photos. The strange thing is that the last time they were used, they were working perfectly. After sitting in a cupboard for many years, I took them out to check if they were still working and nothing! No sign of life! It could be just dust blocking some contacts, perhaps one of these days, I’ll get the tool kit out and have a look. :screwdriver:

Hot and sunny today after yesterday’s rain, it was quite heavy too, may get some more tomorrow.

Enjoy your Sunday afternoon and evening everybody.

At risk of stating the obvious Rose, what about the batteries?

They all seem to have gone on holiday at the same time! :open_mouth: :parasol_on_ground:

They come and go - I have noticed that less post on a weekend. However 7 posts used to be a good good morning thread whereas now there have been times they stretch into the 20s.

I wonder where @Surfermom is? She was such a regular, fun poster.

Unfortunately it isn’t the batteries, I tried putting new ones in, no luck. :slightly_frowning_face:

Ah!
As you suggested, it might be the contacts then. There’s a few technical wizards on the forum. I’m sure someone will come up with something :slightly_smiling_face::+1:

I’ll write on the forum when I get round to having a go at opening one up, so hopefully get some suggestions.
