Good morning all on this warm, sunny day of rest. Temperature in the mid 20s with a nice breeze.
Just the job for drying clothes. Had my clothes and camper bedding on the line by 8.30am and it was dry within a couple of hours. Now I have to summon up the energy to put the covers on the doonas and return them to the camper ready for next time.
All things considered I did well this morning, apart from the laundry, unloaded most of the gear from the car and camper, charged batteries ,even put a 256Gb memory card in my phone to replace the 64Gb one. Making the best of a mistake I made when I ordered it for my dash cam.
Not much to tell you about today so here is a picture for all the surge tank and large pipe aficionados among us.
(The surge tower just absorbs the energy released by moving water suddenly coming to a stop. Like water hammer in your pipes at home when the washing machine shuts off the water but on a much bigger scale and energy level.)
Hope you all have an interesting Sunday and have enjoyed your weekend.
Hi Bruce & good morning all.
Last week to cheer me up my son took me on a Mystery tour……
The Bovington Tank Museum hmmm .
It’s an amazing display if you like tanks !
The coffee and cakes were great…
Good morning - Fairly bright and breezy at the moment but rain is in the forecast. Maybe I’ll walk over on the rough ground, maybe not.
I’m expecting our daughter and son to arrive here at any time …and the rest of the boys later on. They were all here yesterday when I was trying to watch the Rolling Stones in concert on the Sky Arts channel. I’ll try to be a bit more sociable today.
Not much happening
I’ve spent the past couple of days doing a bit of tidying, and sorting bank & building society accounts -
I could have done it all in a couple of hours if I’d had any enthusiasm, but I let it drag on
Oh well, it’s done now, and on to something more interesting - a model plane
Good Morning from Foxy’s world…
A bit different from last Sunday…
A very blustery 8 degrees C but dry enough to do a steady five miles down the lane in me shorts. I felt great so it wasn’t all that steady, but I didn’t jog…Honest!
Apparently its going to rain later with some strong winds, but I’ll be eating my beef and Yorkshires that are slowly cooking in the oven as we speak. A glass or two of red wine will send me of to sleep later.
Loved the photos Bruce and Ripple, nothing like some interesting industrial architecture and stuff about how we won the war to cheer me up…
I had to send my daughter and her hubby home last night when they clashed with a good documentary about Fleetwood Mac…Got to get yer priorities right…
It started off all nice and pink here too Swimmy, but it changed quite quickly on my last mile, but at least it didn’t rain. That comes later by all accounts.
I’ll leave you with this photo taken at Ferrybridge Services. It’s a bloody great Aggreko diesel generator running 24/7 to keep all of the electric charging stations supplied so those with electric motors can help save the planet…
The surge tank is just a big tube open at the top. We had smaller versions at the steel works but they would sometimes eject water from the top. I doubt that can happen with this one because you can walk right up to it.
Good morning from lazy Florida! Well, it was lazy, now it’s back to the projects…
It is such a pleasure to see everyone here and everyone is getting along well.
Anything in the “How Things Work” category is completely fascinating - including the physics of water, which is without question the most miraculous substance on the planet.
My contribution in this category is a solar farm that is in the middle of nowhere in Northwest Florida. I have lifted the photos from the internet because Mr. Surfermom’s giant head was in the way in the ones I shot. You will see that there is a swamp area in the middle of it, and my understanding is that they have sheep on the vast property to control the foliage overgrowth.
The trip was more interesting as the mile checked along. We pulled into town just in time to drop off a slew of donations to the humane society before wandering around the county for the rest of the day. It’s a charming place that has retained its style while the rest of the state exploded with tourism development.
It’s all al little deceiving because it was quite cold, but we made the best of a well-needed break from all the house projects.
Thank you for sharing your day and photos. I’m off to an early trip to the compost dump to drop off a slew of branches and cuttings before tackling more on the inside.
@Surfermom your Sunset photo is stunning , and we have similar Solar farms in our county .
But am a long way off of a Lighthouse , Windmills abound in my area , in fact we take our dog a walk to an old windmill, only a quarter left but a information plaque is in place …
Part of past history , not that many working ones now .
Great photos Surfermom, thanks for posting.
Solar farms are great but are only half the story. hundreds of tons of lithium and cobalt are also required for when the sun isn’t shining…
Trouble is, lithium doesn’t like water, and the resulting fire (almost impossible to extinguish) and pollution is catastrophic…
<< Waits in breathless anticipation for #1. delivery.
Before Six Nations Rugby starts with a big spoon. On TV.
Check check. Isn’t that what Sundays are for. All the way to find the Zapper.
What a charming mill, Eliza! We don’t have any mills in this area and the closest ones are river-driven. I am sure you enjoy having such a nice place for a stroll.
