What a difference a day makes, it got to 43° here yesterday, today it will max out at 21°, at the moment I have the doors and windows open to cool the residual heat left from yesterday.
When I went for my walk this morning there was a distinct smell of smoke in the air presumably from the Victorian bushfires brought up by the southerly change. It is quite overcast and there might be some very welcome rain this evening (we live in hope).
My hydrangea was looking very sad this morning, some of the leaves are looking burned and wilted but hopefully it will recover.
Rolled up my hose this morning but ran my generator for 10 minutes just to circulate the oil etc, plugged in my fan heater to give it something to do. then it was back in the garage for it.
Not sure what I will do for the rest of the day, am looking forward to Monday - coffee and cake is back on.
I haven’t posted for a day or two as I’ve had a cold, so nothing to report apart from eating, sleeping, and keeping warm
I’m a bit better now, though still sniffly, and hopefully I’ll improve as I wake up
Breakfast will be several cups of coffee with a dose of whisky in them, then I’ll work through 2 or 3 days of washing up
I have the last of the cheap veg I bought before Christmas , and I’ll make a veg stew in the slow cooker
It won’t be cooked in time for tea today so I’ll get something out of the freezer …my fridge freezer is full and getting very frosty & scruffy & icy so I intend eating my way out of it over the next few weeks then I can switch it off to give it a good clean, including pulling it out of it’s corner and cleaning around it
I have various bits of paperwork & administration to do - tax my car; shop around for a different car insurance company; reply to the letters & emails that I got from friends at Christmas
At the speed I’m going at the moment I’ll be lucky to finish those by the end of the week.
But now after this exhausting session of typing & thinking I’ll put some coffee in my whisky and get under the duvet for a while
Good morning - Not so cold today. The family seems to have taken to cooking dinner over at their house and bringing it over to ours in the late afternoon. Warm it up a bit and dish it out. I hope I’ll be hungry enough to grab my share.
Good morning all. Heavy rain overnight and high winds. The snow is gradually disappearing but our street is a sheet of ice. Pavements are impassable. Temperature is supposed to rise to 6 degrees later.
A damp and mild day down here on the south coast. Just come back from my daily walk and found that a new pair of nesting swans have taken residence in the local waterway, who were seen about last year. The original lonely female was seen hiding away some distance away, presumably because the new pair have claimed her old territory. It may be interesting later when the pair of Canada Geese return and try to build a nest close to the newcomers.
Anyways, not sure what’s happening today. I shall let my coffee decide.
Greetings from South Yorkshire…
A light dusting of overnight snow and 0 degrees C made the pavements and paths treacherous, so treacherous that Mrs Fox and friends cancelled their Sunday morning walk…No such cop out for me, it was up before light and out into the frosty, cold, winter wonderland. Had to wear my tracky bottoms though…
The mild weather hadn’t reached this far north yet and the canal was frozen solid and hardly saw a soul along the towpath, so I did some short sprints to keep warm.
It’s forecast to reach 10 C later today and tomorrow, and since returning from my walk all the snow and frost has gone and been replaced by rain.
