Didn’t go for my walk this morning as I hurt my back yesterday leaning over to varnish so saved my energy for more varnishing - have now done the second coat.
Ex TC Alfred has still not hit the coast, it has been downgraded to a tropical low so the winds are far less but it still holds a lot of water. 250,000 households in Qld and 40,000 in northern NSW are without power, one person has died. It looks like it will hit the coast at Bribie Island later today - I have an old friend living there, I hope she will be OK. Looks like Brisbane dodged a bullet.
My weekend will be pretty quiet, it is cloudy but only 1mm of rain overnight and not much planned
Mum is still not eating no matter what the carers try to tempt her with. The doctor has said he will ring my brother after he has done his rounds on Tuesday
My lovely neighbour showed up yesterday afternoon with flowers to cheer me up and then insisted I go out for dinner with them last night. I truly have the best neighbours!
Laundry, housework and some shopping are the plans for today – unless something more exciting presents itself!
Good morning (or afternoon) lovely sunny morning again and I’m still on the injured bench.
I still managed to drive Mrs Fox to the Tesco for supplies, and the trolley was a good help to me while I staggered round keeping an eye on exorbitant spending, although it was me doing all the exorbitant spending…
Its surprising what you put in the trolley when you’re hungry…
A tin of corned beef with some mash and veg will be the menu for today’s lunch, I don’t want to put too much strain on my knee by driving to some obscure garden centre 100 miles away.
The good news is, I can at least bend my knee now and the swelling has gone down.
I’ve got a rate comfy chair up in the loft I might get down so I can sit outside in the sun…
Mrs Fox has banned me from climbing up into the loft, but what she doesn’t see…
Nudge! Nudge!
It’s good to read that Alfred turned out to be mostly nothing more than a fish spinner, but it’s quite an inconvenience without power. There’s nothing like a diet of whatever’s thawing in the freezer for a few days!
@SheilaP I know this is a difficult time for your family. It doesn’t sound like your mom, thankfully, is in any distress. I am sure wishing you peace in these difficult days.
@OldGreyFox, it’s a slow and steady road on that knee, but if you behave, the world awaits. I’m glad you are getting out and about a little bit!
Those who have been around long enough know that my favorite household appliance is not the oven, but my precious power washer. Having just cleared away the blueberry pancake breakfast dishes, I am now twiddling my thumbs to get started. Unfortunately (or fortunately? ) I don’t have a man’s shoulder strength to start the thing, so I am having to wait for my son to return from the hardware store get the thing cranking. I had wanted to paint, but it’s just too damp today after rain move through in the night. If you can’t beat 'em join 'em! The fence, driveway, sidewalk, boardwalk, and some of the siding are all in my sights.
That is about it from this exciting part of the world! Tonight the clocks “spring back”
I was a bit peeved Saturday morning when the BOM local rain forecast for Sunday went from 60mm to 4mm - I could have gone to Canberra …
@swimfeeders It took me a while to twig, I hope RO is reverse osmosis otherwise I am lost. I didn’t know it was something you could have at home - please tell us more
It my time in the power industry we went from using steam to make distilled water, to Cation Anion (sp?) beds, to reverse osmosis but it was a smooth ride.
On the other hand in my electronics career microwave radio went from the wonder child of transmission to the horse drawn carriage, a very bumpy ride.
We call that doom-casting, here. Too often, the hurricane forecasts are embedded with worst-case scenarios, which increasingly causes people to ignore them. I don’t know whether that is the result of excited meteorologists who chose the extreme data from the model runs or attorneys in the background who are putting exclamation marks on everything.
Either way, I am sorry you had to postpone your trip.
That is good news! In the opposite hemisphere, the first round of furniture is having to wait patiently in the painting booth because it’s now raining buckets.
