Good morning all, this morning I am in the nation’s capital.
Easy drive down yesterday arvo, was greeted by the very excited dog but who I think was a bit disappointed that I wasn’t her owner.
This morning I went in the rocket car to the Canberra exhibition centre for the Lifeline book fair. I had to take photo of the car’s controls because compared to my tradie vehicle this is like a spaceship.
My daughter sent a picture of me looking at and holding the books to my youngest son in Darwin. His response? “You’re just enabling hoarding!”. Cheeky bugger.
Looking forward to dinner this evening - there is beef in the smoker. She loves cooking, I enjoy eating it.
Last night we went to a nearby restaurant called “Pizza, Wings and Beer” which was very enjoyable. Sat outside on a lovely warm evening to eat. The food was fine but the beer was expensive boutique stuff that I am not fond of - far too sweet for me - but even so I drank it and had a wonderful evening.
Hope you all are enjoying your weekend as much as I am.
@Bruce you must be an avid reader , takes all my time to read one book every couple of years …
On the subject of food , Im off to Leicester this morning food tasting for the up coming wedding.
Its cold. here so perhaps an hot curry will warm me up .
Morning all – yes another grey overcast and cold day top temperature forecast 4c!!
Didn’t make it to the new group yesterday. The parcel being delivered was rather expensive and I didn’t want to risk it getting “lost” The group only meet once a month so I have made a note in my diary to be sure to keep the day free next month.
That looks like an interesting pile of books Bruce – I am an avid reader myself and have just ordered 3 more books. I like to try authors I haven’t read before but my favourites are Lee Child and Kerry J Donovan. As I have said previously, when I moved I allowed my sister in law to take a lot of my books to the local charity shop but now regret it so am rebuilding my “library”.
Good morning from Foxy’s World…
Feeling a lot better this morning but it is a rest day apart from the early visit to Tesco with Mrs Fox and friend who we always like to help out with her shopping. A cool 3 degrees C and unbroken cloud with occasional rain, forecast to become more persistent later.
It looks like ‘Harlan Coben’ is one of your favourites Bruce, is he fiction or fact?
Yes, the GTN comes in a little spray can now Bruce.
Cars have come a long way since they were just used to get you to work and the odd day out at the seaside. I do think most of it is unnecessary and distracting to the driver, I’ve actually considered buying an old classic car that just provides the basics…
I’m with you on that Eliza, I probably read one or two books per year, nature and the great outdoors proves too much of a temptation to ignore.
Good luck to your hubby familiarising himself with the dash. I find the screen does most of the stuff that used to be done with manual controls, and you can only do one thing at a time. It requires taking your eyes off the road for a moment, especially until you find your way around the menu’s…Devils work if you ask me…
I like Jack Reacher too Sheila, I also like David Baldacci very similar to Lee Child.
A distant Garden Centre for lunch beckon’s now so catch yer all later…
The rain has just set in for the day, very slow moving.
GTN Sprays are great things, I have 5, I need to carry one at all times, hence having 5.
I keep forgetting where I have the thing done.
I only have 20% of my heart still working and also have unstable angina, which means I can have an attack whilst sat down watching TV or when I am asleep.
I have just had my daily morphine doubled, along with oe of my others meds, a total of 23 pills a day.
I rarely get out now, once a fortnight at most, really enjoy those trips out.
Good afternoon everyone, drizzly day here today, not too cold for this time of year, 10C.
I really don’t understand why modern cars are becoming spaceships, do we really need all that stuff? It’s ironic if you think about it, huge fines if you get caught with a phone in your hand, I understand that, but don’t you get equally distracted messing around with useless buttons while driving?
Bravo Rose…
My thoughts exactly. I suppose it’s a just a question of one car manufacturer trying to out do another with the innovation and driver aids they can fit into the humble motor car.
Apart from an engine management system I don’t believe computers and the internet should be allowed anywhere near a motor vehicle, it’s just asking for trouble. I guess we will never know how many accidents are caused by distractions inside the vehicle.
Hi Swim, I’m glad to see you still posting and still with a great sense of humour. I’m going to have to take a leaf out of your book and order a couple more GTN sprays so I don’t have to search for one each time I go out. I’m still able to go out walking and driving but it is shutting me down bit by bit. I’m trying to restrict the number of tablets I take. Some (like statins) I positively refuse to take, and others I pretend to take. There are three that I class as important because I can see and feel the result of not taking them.
Apparently my heart was 38% efficient at the last check (results of a MRI scan back in 2021) but I have felt a lot of deterioration since then.
You and Fruitcake are my inspiration with your positive attitudes…
I know what you mean about those statins:slightly_frowning_face: I’m off them at the moment, as my cholesterol level was normal at my last blood test, but I should get another check soon to see if I need to retake them, I certainly hope not! It’s hereditary unfortunately, like my hypertension.
He is a very recent favourite. I had watched many UK series based on his books, I think the most recent was Fool Me Once so I decided to try reading them and got hooked, he has written a lot of books.
Much as I watch more TV now than I have ever watched in my life I still prefer reading. Crime fiction is my latest genre.
I like Val McDermid and Kathy Reichs though I can never remember which books I have read, fortunately I am at an age where that doesn’t matter. The book I am currently reading I think I have read before but I can’t remember the outcome so it is all good.
BTW I have never heard of GTN spray and have no idea what it is for, you’ll have to tell me. I thought at first it was a joke name like the dangerous dihydrogen monoxide but perhaps not.
Oh, gosh. I am horribly late again, but I did read everyone’s post with interest and always the wish that everyone is feeling in tip-top condition.
Running went into a trip to the paint store which went into seven straight hours of interior house painting. It was the whole enchilada - filling, sanding, priming and then base and crown painting, one room at a time.
Now there are hungry mouths to feed of the canine and human kind, so I am off.
Enjoy your books, travel, and taking it easy at home and away!
