Good morning to all on this warm but overcast weekend.
Was out early getting some fruit cake and some oregano to make my special spag bol, it’s actually nothing like spag bol really, very spicy, lots of chilli and Indian spices but I like it. Usually make about five meals and freeze them. They defrost in the steam from cooking the spaghetti.
Personally I have not achieved much today, my newly renovated Laptop is happily creating a cloned image courtesy of Clonezilla - more of a point and shoot operation after I took time loading my favourite programs.
Then I spent a bit of time looking for a butane stove hidden in my garage, found it easily much to my surprise, will cook some bacon on it later as a test.
Apart from that it is going to be a quiet day (I hope)
Two of my kids might ring this arvo via Whatsapp (they are in foreign parts) otherwise the rest of the day will be spent pottering.
Good morning - A drier one than yesterday but chilly at 12ºC. Off for the early flu jab soon. Might take a wander across to the car boot sale when I get back. Just something to do as there isn’t much else.
We might get visited by the usual family trio later. It won’t be music to my ears though.
A very good day to you Bruce. Bit overcast here in Kent but dry for the moment at least. Got to take the better half for a jab later but apart from that the days up for grabs. Got a bit of fencing that needs some attention so if I can muster the will i might crack on with that. Enjoy your cook up
Morning all – yesterday was a wash-out, literally! Rain for most of the day. I decided not to venture out as I can’t swim! Forecast today is for it to be overcast but mostly dry.
I have some paperwork to catch up on today and then have to decide what to wear to a party tonight (usually whatever I can find that fits!). One of the ladies I join for coffee had her birthday on Tuesday and her husband is throwing a surprise party for her tonight. I am hoping it stays dry as we are walking to her house and don’t fancy turning up looking like a drowned rat (although some would say that would be an improvement)
I woke up about 03 - 30 … had a pee (you probably didn’t need to know that) …felt cold & sneezy
Made a cup of coffee
Got back into bed but couldn’t sleep
Sort of dozed in my comfy chair, not very successfully
Several cups of coffee; sitting around bored
Did last night’s washing up at about 05 - 30
Just made a bacon butty; I’ll probably get back into bed
This is annoying as I have a letter to write and a parcel to pack, but they’ll keep till tomorrow
Still a bit cold & sneezy
It is very dull here this morning so I wore my mac to go on the dog walk - needless to say it didn’t rain and I arrived home feeling rather hot. My next decision is whether to risk hanging out the washing.
I was awoken at 5-30 this morning by Annie dog wanting to go into the garden. When I opened the back door there was a hedgehog sitting on the doorstep - Annie, being the brave guard dog that she is, refused to pass the hedgehog, so I had to open the patio door to let her out! I thought the hedgehog might be thirsty so I put out a saucer of water and when I opened the door a couple of hours later it had gone and Annie drank the water.
Whilst out on the walk this morning I stopped for a while to watch a football match between two youth teams on the playing field. It’s a bit depressing to think we are now into the football season again which means winter isn’t too far away. Mind you there is still cricket going on and the final test match is being played at the Oval. I watched some of it yesterday - the bits where they weren’t going off for bad light that is - how the light can be ‘bad’ when they have the floodlights on is beyond me, and beyond some of the spectators too I think due to the booing when the umpires sent the players off. Hopefully it will be ‘lighter’ today!
I shall be making more apple crumbles today to freeze. I gave one to my younger son on Thursday evening when he popped in on the way to watch a cricket match in Northampton. I watched the same match on TV so saved myself the entrance fee. The match was sold out though due to it being a quarter final in the Blast - sadly the Steelbacks (Northants) lost to Somerset. That won’t stop my son going to the final at Edgbaston next Saturday though - he bought tickets ages ago, more in hope than expectation I expect.
I empathise, I don’t often have bad nights but do occasionally when my brain won’t stop working.
Not sure that cups of coffee when you can’t sleep is a good idea, personally I usually go for hot milk or Milo and try to read a few chapters of a book…
Good morning! actually, morning this time, right date!
Finishing up breakfast and hoping to make it to the gym. Still trying to develop new habits.
Hoping to get out and enjoy the cooler weather we’re getting. I must google spag bol, sounds intriguing, Bruce.
MargaretF, I definitely want to look up apple crumbles. One of my favorites!
We got a good meal today between spag bol and apple crumbles.
Zuludog, I hope you feel better soon.
Excited today to come out of the mist of a bad couple of weeks. Happy weekend all.
Here’s to cooler weather, cleaning, trying to watch my health and having a really good day! just found that pic…got to remember to put chute surfing on things to try out !
Oops, I meant to say we have a depression in my part of Florida, the tropical sort, which has us experiencing of yet another day of slow, training rain along the coast.
I still have company in town, so we are off to find museums, a long ferry ride to visit an rehabilitation aquarium, and other song and dance that I can provide to make up for the disappointing weather.
What a treat that would be to see a hedgehog! How kind of you to give water to the little guy, @Margaret.
It’s a place where rescued marine life are treated and given a place for save recovery until healthy. The majority of the animals that are brought in are sea turtles that are threatened or endangered in this part of the world, but they also take in dolphins and manatees for short periods. Most are injured by boat propellers or fishing, but in the winter, they also take in hypothermic sea turtles.
To be honest that never occurred to me. I thought it might be where people went to overcome psychological or physical problems by mixing with animals (animal-assisted interventions, pet therapy?)
We do have animal therapy here locally, but not in the availability I have seen it elsewhere. There is a farm that has a horse therapy program for children who are autistic, very ill, or victims of trauma. It seems to have an extraordinary benefit. Maybe you have something there with a marine program.
