Good morning forum friendlies, how ya goin’? (lapsed into the vernacular there)
It’s another warm, humid day where I live with the ever present chance of a thunderstorm but BOM’s severe weather warning has been withdrawn.
1.5mm of welcome rain overnight, hopefully a little more this arvo or overnight, never say no to rain (or at least not until it is up to my ankles).
The weekend has arrived for the workers, I was out early getting milk from the supermarket. Coles is making hay while the sun shines (the Woollies workers are on strike) so no own brand goods on the shelves. I did buy a Violet Crumble, however that was on special for a dollar.
Last night I printed a device for opening ring pull cans for my daughter in law - she has talons like a Tyrannosaurus Rex. She drinks more Coke than I drink beer. Can’t test it because I never buy cans.
Good morning everyone, cloudy today, 9C but feels colder because of high humidity, rain is predicted for tomorrow and those awful strong winds again .
It doesn’t look like a good start to your Summer @Bruce. Your unusual weather is probably not so unusual, since the climate has drastically changed in many areas of the world, making extreme conditions always more and more extreme, I still think it’s nature going through a normal course of events and not so much our fault, as “green” people would want us to believe. Of course, we have to try and do our best not to add fuel to the fire .
Tomorrow 8th December, is the start of our Christmas period, well religiously anyway, since it’s the Immaculate Conception. It should be a National Holiday but it comes on a Sunday. It doesn’t get moved to Monday like it would be done in the UK. I remember that when Christmas Day occurred on a Sunday for example, you’d get one more day off from work, going back on the following Wednesday . I suppose it’s still the same rule.
Morning all – I have been awake for most of the night due to the high winds, the Met Office have issued a red warning alert for some parts of the area, with advice not to go out, only an amber alert where I am
Some areas are without power, no public transport and the local airport has cancelled flights
The storm is due to last until sometime Monday afternoon so guess who won’t be leaving the house for a couple of days! I did go to the supermarket yesterday morning and made sure I had enough fresh food to last until Tuesday
Sister in law popped in yesterday afternoon so I got caught up on all the family gossip
Take care everyone, especially those caught up in the storm
Just got time to look in before we zoom off to Bridlington. I’m hoping the rough seas will be a spectacle not to miss, and there is an exceptional garden centre just outside Brid where they do some very tasty hot meals…Just the job to keep the cold weather out…
‘Blue arse Fly’ syndrome yesterday and left it too late to look in, but I have done most of the Christmas lights outside.
Those lights are spectacular Eliza, I daren’t post pictures of mine after seeing those…
Absolutely right about the inclement weather Rose, and as society gets more complex it gets easier for weather events to cause chaos with power outages and travel, so it seems like we are living in a time of extreme weather…When I was a boy storm Daragh would just be classed as a windy day with a spot of rain…
Looks like those strong winds that have been mentioned on this thread, are heading our way for tomorrow .
A shame as it’s really bright and sunny this afternoon, went into town this morning on a “comfort” shopping spree , and the car thermometer showed a high of 14C.
Looking forward to coffee, waffles and some whatever else I want to do time! :). There’s always new appreciation of time after a week of constringent and demands.
Wonderful lights @Eliza, my total effort for Christmas was purely because my Grandkids are staying here over Christmas.
I have this small tree with built in fibre ights, it has been nothing but trouble since I got it in 2018. Originally it was dim and flickery, looked at the wiring and found two dry joints, soon sorted that.
This year I got it out and it didn’t work at all, turned out the on/off switch had failed so I bypassed that, at least it is going now!
@OldGreyFox you must show us your decorations. There is a street in my suburb where every house goes mad with their decorations, they’ve all been doing it for years so have a massive collection. I must wander up one night and take some pics.
@SheilaP A friend of mine near the lake was without power yesterday for 18 hours. Lightning struck a power pole the night before, a crew came out to look but actually did nothing, the next day they arrived with a new pole but couldn’t put it up because of more lightning (you can’t blame them for that). 18 hours is a long time without power, I am not sure I would have enough fuel for my generator if that happened to me.
