Good morning all.
If I am honest it is actually afternoon here, my only excuse is that I have been doing odd jobs. Nothing very exciting.
Was up early and got my laundry on the line. In the front garden noticed my Snowdrops are blooming.
They’re actually not Snowdrops, I did know what they were but Snow Drops is close enough.
Huumph! I still think it is cold.
Anyway have a good day today whether you are cold or hot.

Good morning - The weather is good at throwing curved balls every now an then. We have a granddaughter in Sydney who said it is a bit chilly at the moment. Feeling the effects of a spell of cold or hot weather depends on what you’re acclimatised to I suppose.
A bit early for me to be replying but it has still been warm and a bit uncomfortable for sleeping. Not only that but blinkin’ leg cramp has me up and walking around the room! 
I expect I’ll ride over to take a look at my brother’s (R.I.P.) place this afternoon. It hasn’t had much interest on the selling market so far. It needs work and people can’t see past its 70s look. Going to empty it out completely to see if it makes a difference. Need to go to the shops for a few items as well
When that’s done, the job of clearing some ivy that has taken over an area of the garden and is ruining the fence panels will continue. The pile so far…

That is certainly a large pile of leaves Mart – as I have said before I am a strong believer in GAMI (get a man in!) I suppose these days I should say get a person in!
Gutter cleaning carried out promptly and efficiently yesterday- not a job I would like to do!
Finished one book which took me longer than usual as I just couldn’t get into it – have started another which is more promising.
Feeling very lazy today so probably won’t be doing much – well weekends are a time for resting right?

Good morning everyone.
A nicer day today weatherwise, the sun is shining but the humidity of the past few days has dispersed at last. It was an enjoyable walk over the fields this morning with a gentle breeze and sunshine. Then a visit to the Farm Shop for some fruit. Saturday isn’t a good day to go because the car park was almost full and then I had to loiter beside the vegetables whilst two ladies discussed the size of the potatoes and which ones held the best flavour - all I wanted was a baking potato for my tea today. In the end I did other shopping and went back for the potato because the two ladies had moved on to the cabbages.
I have a hospital appointment this afternoon - yes on a Saturday! Mind you, the previous appointment about 3 months ago was on a Sunday. The hospital is trying to catch up after Covid I think. My son is taking me this time because I need treatment that will prevent me from driving. I’ve bought him some posh biscuits as a thank you.
When I visited the Craft shop yesterday I came away with a lovely pair of earrings, you can never have too many pairs of earrings in my book; I also bought a decorated ceramic plaque for my grandson and his wife as a thank you for dog-sitting next week and a birthday card for my son with an old style red bus painted on the front. A couple of days ago my son sent a video to me of Northampton in 1963 and that led to a discussion with him about the old style red buses so the card seemed appropriate.

Whenever someone thinks that life as a quinquagenarian and beyond is unpleasant, they should read this forum. Nice walks in the summer sun, shopping at leisure, or a Saturday Brunch sound lovely.
I’ve a break from construction and the construction workers today, and have already taken advantage of it with a quick run and a longer outing on the kayak. I have found and gently presented this significant crack in the quartzite that the granite company are “fixing” on Monday. I have opinions, but I am giving them a chance to present a solution ( I suspect they just want to put epoxy in it and call it a day).
The long arms of the quartzite are not supported by anything except a perpendicular 1" X 2" piece of wood that is nailed into the stud, supporting the main section about 6 inches to the right of the opening. Logic tells me that it is a short matter of time that the long section will give way from the weight of the cooktop and pasta pots filled with water accelerated by expansion and contraction from heat. I think the who slab needs to be much better supported and properly replaced, but I think they are banking on perceived ignorance.
We shall see!

Without the cracks, that would be the weakest place of the whole installation…
100% agree. I am building my offense. Good to hear others drawing same conclusion.
Is that engineered stone @Surfermom ? It has just been banned in Australia (since 1st July 2024) because of a resurgence of silicosis in workers cutting it. Silicosis was a miner’s disease largely eliminated but it suddenly sprung up as a disease among workers on engineered stone in a big way.
Health campaigns to have it banned went on for years.

Mine happens to be natural quartzite.
I worked in the manufacture of diamond cutting equipment for stone, glass, and other hard materials, and using water as a cutting aid reduced tool wear and eliminated dust, and together with the wearing of suitable masks during the cutting process considerably reduced the risk to health.
Excellent! Thank you. That adds expertise to the conclusion that we have both drawn regarding the need for replacement. It’s so interesting that you are in involved in that field. I have no idea how people managed such amazing granite, marble, and quartzite work in the days before power saws. Coincidentally, the first question I asked in trying to solve the problem was whether they had used a wet saw with a diamond blade.
