Good morning to you all as you enjoy the last weekend in October.
There is not a cloud in the sky this morning but it was quite cool overnight because of that, probably only going to be a mild day with the temperature in the low 20s. The sunshine is great though.
I have nothing planned for today, other than packing for a few days in Sydney early next week when I am a delegate to the seniors’ association Annual Conference. Haven’t been since the one just before the pandemic, am attending with mixed feelings as the conference seems to just be held because they have to but everything has been decided beforehand. Not sure if I will stay for both days either.
Previously we used to send a gang of about six people (half delegates, half observers) and had very enjoyable social gatherings in the evenings but I think everybody got a bit fed up with having no real input to the decision making and people lost interest. Let’s face it we can have social occasions in Wollongong and not pay Sydney prices. If I didn’t have my son’s flat to stay at I doubt I would go either, Sydney motels/hotels are not a bundle of fun by yourself.
I am currently just sitting in the lounge with a cup of tea and a piece of carrot cake before I go out into the garden/garage/shed to do some pottering about.
Have a wonderful weekend all you over fifty weekend warriors out there, enjoy your day…
I finished my course of antibiotics yesterday, and I’m feeling better
Today I’m going to Colne to visit my friend who runs a secondhand tool stall on the market, as for the past several weeks I’ve hardly been anywhere or had anything but the minimum conversation with anyone
I’ll get a late breakfast, either a burger from a stall, or Wetherspoons
On the way back I’ll call at a HiFi shop in Nelson (there are still such things) and buy a new set of headphones
Then I’ll take it easy for the rest of the day, don’t want to push my luck!
Morning all – sunshine this morning with no rain forecast!!
Glad you are feeling better zuludog – it is good to get out and about but don’t try to do too much too soon
Had to contact my gardener – something has dug a big hole in the planter at the front of the house and thrown the plants on the ground!! So he will have to replace them. I am assuming (hoping) it is a squirrel and not some malevolent passer-by!
Have finally found a cleaner with some availability – waiting for her to arrange a date and time to visit to have a look at what is in store for her!!
Morning folks, I’m due out in ten minutes to go for lunch at a garden centre so it was a toss up between answering a couple of threads elsewhere or dropping in here…I think I might manage both…
I might have seen the space station passing overhead this morning. Is it still flying about? I thought Surfermom might know…
The first thing I do after getting out of bed in a morning is to go outside and ‘Feel’ the morning.
We live in the bottom of quiet cul-de-sac in a small village, so it’s always very quiet and peaceful, and this morning before the sun had risen I was looking at the stars and small portion of what’s left of the moon when I spotted something moving across the sky (from west to east’ish) No sound or flashing lights, and with the sun still below the horizon I guessed it might be the sunlight reflecting off the object…It was a very nice morning and not too cold even with a minimum of clothes on…
Sunny here after a drab start to the day, I even felt some spots of rain during the dog walk. Hopefully I will get out into the garden this afternoon to snip a few more bushes. I used to have a gardener to help with all of that but he decided that he didn’t want to do it anymore and wanted to concentrate on his own garden. I really miss the help but it is proving difficult to find someone else at the moment, I shan’t give up on it though, I regularly peruse the cards in the PO window in the hope that someone else in the village will advertise.
The postman has just delivered a parcel containing Christmas cards I ordered from a charity which I support. He banged on the door and then rang the bell twice, I think he was in a hurry! Poor Annie dog was rudely awakened from her post walk nap.
Glad to hear you are feeling better @zuludog it’s good you can get out and about again.
Sydney is one of those cities I would love to have visited @Bruce it just goes to show that we shouldn’t put things off when we are younger because as the old saying goes ‘tomorrow never comes’ I am always telling my sons that if they want to do something and can afford it, do it now don’t live to regret not doing it!
Yes, the ISS still out there chugging along! You would have been able to see it about 35 degrees about the horizon in ESE skies, moving east, at about 5:20 am. local time. You probably saw a Starlink satellite, OGF, but very cool! Here is an image of the Doncaster sky at 5:22 this morning; you can see the ISS in yellow.
Good, good morning from a still fall morning in Florida.
It is such a pleasure to sleep with the windows open! The temperatures and humidity have finally dropped, and I would like to say that I awoke to the sounds of the pelicans, gulls, and cormorants gently stirring me as the pink sun rose over the horizon, but it was a din of the dogs fussing at me while thumping their tails about my head and climbing over me like I was a jungle gym.
Since sleeping in was not an option, I hustled out the door for a quick run before the (American) football game I want to watch comes on at eleven. I am not a diehard fan, but it takes me back to Saturdays when my parents were alive and the house filled with the familiar sounds and excitement of the game. Carrying on these little rituals seem to fill those empty spots.
I’m with you, @MargaretF, i would love to visit Sydney (but mostly as a launching pad to get out into the natural sites. Any reason to explore is a good one, @Bruce. I hope the business doesn’t get in the way of a little adventure!
I hope you all have a relaxing Saturday out and about or tucked in with the pleasures of home.
The new Devon Community Sauna in Teignmouth (Image: Devon Community Sauna)
Meg, who swims in the sea all year round, said: "For ages we have wanted a seafront location and for it to be community place where people will want to gather. Our first sauna, a converted horsebox, arrived eight days ago.
"It can accommodate eight people and is all dark wood inside with benches either side and a stove at the narrow end. It’s right next to the pier behind the railings of the sea wall.
I’ll be finishing clearing out the polytunnel this morning. Wash the pots and plant up a few runners from the old strawberry plants into new compost. The old compost that was used for the tomatoes and strawberries will get mixed with some horse manure and spread around the flower borders.
Also need to get the garden seats covered for the winter. I don’t think they will be needed anymore this year. All that should make me flake out by lunchtime ready for a TV snooze.
Yes it was 7:00am when we were looking up so I guess it must have been a Starlink Satellite we saw. I didn’t realise there was so much stuff floating around up there, and Elon Musk seems to be the main contributor. What on earth are they all for?
