Good Morning Saturday, 23rd November 2024

Good Morning to you all on this very warm Saturday.

To my surprise I took both dogs out for a walk this morning. I thought I would try it because I could always come straight home if it was unmanageable but they were both excellent and well behaved. The only finny thing was that they both wanted to be on the outside so would drop back slightly and then come up on the other side of the other dog.

The hardest part was trying to take a photo holding the leads and operating the phone at the same time.

While the morning was still cool I spent some time clearing the garden of leaves and weeds but as I write this the day is definitely warming up.

It is supposed to be 30° today and a heatwave is expected over the next few days, I forget the definition of a heatwave but it is something like temperatures for at least three days over so many degrees above the average. There is a high over the Tasman channelling hot air down from the tropics.

Enjoy your restful weekend be it hot or cold. Take care…

Good morning - A bit gusty out there this morning. We’re just on the edge of the weather warnings for storm Bert …so storm Bert won’t hert  It might get worse later.

Got a bit of shopping to get in while the rain is holding off. Mrs mart will be cutting my hair this afternoon.

Have a good day.

Morning all – heavy rain and strong winds today but at least it is warmer with temperatures around 9c today! This weather is due to “Storm Bert” (who thinks of these names!) and is set to be with us for the whole weekend. An area just a couple of miles away is without power at the moment which is worrying.

Neighbours finally got home around 8.00 last night, apparently the airline has lost one of their suitcases! At least I made them smile when I said that on the bright side they didn’t have to unpack!

A very pleasant man called to look at the broken blind (from a local family run company I have used before) – told him I had decided to have new ones made for my bedroom and the spare room. He measured up and had some useful advice on the new blinds – he even took away the broken one!

As I am no longer on cat servant duties I didn’t get up until after 8.00, was able to take my time having a shower and getting dressed and have just finished a leisurely breakfast

As the weather is so bad I will not be venturing out – I could spend the time catching up with some paperwork or just chill out reading – decisions, decisions

Take care – hope everyone has an enjoyable day

Good Midday from Foxy’s World… :parking:
Received a letter through the post yesterday after parking outside the marked bays at a local retail park. You get 14 days to pay £40 quid, after that it rises to £60 quid and if you still don’t pay £100 :open_mouth: Robin B’stards…
They conveniently waited 14 days before I received the letter, so demanded £60…
I was all set to contest the penalty, I even wrote notes, a letter usually does the trick, but this morning after checking out the validity of the company, I couldn’t be arsed so coughed up.
A rest day today and a good job it was. It’s raining cats and dogs outside and Mrs Fox had a bad night with her poorly knee. She still managed a stagger around Tesco on her sticks, I offered to do the shop myself but it’s our daughters 51st birthday on Monday and insisted that she chose the card and present herself. I’m sure I could have found something cheap and appropriate…
So it’s still chucking it down and there is more on the way, so it looks like dinner at home this Saturday…
:cow2:
Corned Beef accompanied with mashed potato, a selection of seasonal vegetables, and smothered in a tasty brown sauce…
:yum:

Good morning/evening everyone!

Nice Saturday start, and I can’t wait to get to 4 o’clock.

@Bruce, thanks for sharing the dog picture! I look forward to getting a dog next year hopefully. Two would be ideal, but I’m going to be ecstatic to just get one again. Have to move first probably.

@SheilaP , cat person? i’m still trying to decide between a cat or a dog next year.

@mart, how’d the hair cut go? got to find a new stylist…not looking forward to that process.

@OldGreyFox , corned beef sounds define right now!

Trying to relax a little, maybe get to a gym, and then go with my daughter to her volunteer event. Hope you all had a great day and have excellent evenings!

Cheers!

Good fine morning from Florida!

Did someone drag this state toward the arctic while I slept last night? Stepping outside for this morning’s run in a tank and @OGF’s preferred style of shorts, I whipped back in after a single step in whopping 4ºC to grab a few more layers. Good grief, this is only November!

I chose the sportsplex for a sun-filled four miles at a fairly slow pace, but it’s fun there in the off season with no one around.

@OGF, Happy Birthday to your pretty daughter! I hope Mrs. OGF’s knee settles down enough to make it an enjoyable celebration for all of you. Holy cow, that is an outrageous cost for a parking ticket! Did you park it in front of the door at 10 Downing or something :flushed:?

@LookingForward, have a good day at the gym. What kind of workouts do you like to do?

@SheilaP it sounds like you have had a peaceful start to the day and yet another problem solved with the blinds. Losing luggage is annoying, but better on the back end of the trip. I learned a long time ago to take an image or two of what is inside in case the thing disappears. Most people don’t know it but a good portion of lost luggage is the result of people taking the wrong suitcase!

@Mart, I hope your enjoy your trip to the barber. I used to cut my son’s hair, but he was so nervous that I was going to do something crazy like take a giant nick out of his hair that we would fuss at me start to finish. One day I just told him I didn’t think it was a good idea anymore. Now he all but begs to do it, so we have UN negotiating team come in to set the terms so it doesn’t end up in a rewriting of the will .

@Bruce, what a beatiful pair of dogs! What are the terms of your fostering? I can’t imagine that either of them will have trouble finding homes.

This is tutoring day; I have an agreed to work with some friends’ son to prepare for a Calculus II final, so I have to do a quick study to once again relearn. I am convinced that without application, none of us have a permanent file in our brains for college math, so it bounces around in there before shooting off into space. :face_with_monocle:

I made a big skillet of curry last night it’s déjà vu dinner for this Saturday night. That means I can squeeze in a long sunset walk beforehand. Too bad that this time of year it seems to happen around noon .

Have a lovely day!

Corned beef hash was the only thing on the menu in my first flat share.

If you do that here in shopping centres they just stick a massive orange sticker (like 300mm square plus) on your side window, which tells you that you parked incorrectly. The sticker uses very strong permanent adhesive and is bugger to remove. I know because my ex got one, she, apart from being the worse driver I have ever seen, would just park anywhere.

I don’t think any private company can fine you and shopping centre parking is always free anyway.

They are lovely, They both leave today, the small one I have been looking after for just over two weeks the black one just for the weekend.

It is odd to observe how the dogs interact, the small dog rarely plays, never fetches he just shows he is boss by taking the biggest bed etc. He basically ignores this dog and its attempts to play and she is not pushy. They don’t fight and wander around together quite happily.

Last weekend at my daughter’s house in Canberra their Labrador forced him to play whether he liked it or not by pawing him and pushing him. He is a quarter of her size but she was very gentle compared with how she plays with another Labrador. I thought he hated it, sometimes he’d growl, but when we returned home it was clear he missed it very much.

He’s a dog nothing fazes, ferocious dogs barking from behind fences? He just walks on, likewise with passing dogs on leads snapping and growling at him he, doesn’t deviate just walks straight past without a care.

Here, people just mock bad parking on social media. It’s not a crime; just a social one.

Hi @Surfermom,

Not a regular gym person. Just started recently. I find clarity in the weights. Trying to work my way up, focus on arms, and legs.

It wasn’t even for overstaying my welcome Surfer, I was parked outside the marked parking bay.
Ironically, I had only stopped for a few moments to drop a bag of clothes into the local charity.

It stated on the letter that the car park was private land and you are allowed 3 hours of free parking, but you must be inside one of the marked parking bays. At my next visit I shall take a photo of the many signs tied to lamp posts Bruce. There is a company called UKPC (UK Parking Control) who apparently run the car park on behalf of the landowner, that’s quite common around here. The car park does get very busy, but not on the Saturday morning I was there so I parked leaving a big gap away from the next car so Mrs Fox could get out easily (she’s not very mobile or bendy) but in the event it was quicker for me to jump out and take the bundle of clothes to the charity shop myself. The photo must have been taken by someone on foot from behind and there was no penalty notice put on my vehicle. There were two other occupants sitting in the car so why didn’t the attendant politely inquire why I had parked over the white line.
I probably should have contested it but they caught me on a bad day, I’ve not been feeling myself just lately so I just paid and be done with it…

The small one is my youngest son’s dog I was looking after while he drove to Darwin with his GF who has been posted there. He and the dog move there after Christmas. He flew back from Darwin on Saturday, worked Sunday then drove down here to collect his dog.

The black one was my middle son’s I only looked after it for the weekend while they stayed in a motel on the Central Coast to attend my great nephews 1st birthday party (it also gave me a good excuse not to go myself - I sent a present instead)

One day I had two dogs, the next day none.

Aha, then they are cousins! :grinning not fosters!

Good of you to dogs so your sons can travel. I’m not sure the situation there, but kenneling here is expensive if you don’t want your dog left in a cage most of the day. You are probably saving them worry and a fair amount of money.

I used to look after them more often but I get the impression they think I am getting too old for the job.
