Good Morning Saturday, 1st March 2025

Good morning all, quite a warm day for the first day of Autumn about 30° at the moment.

Contrary to previous posts this is not a busy day at all. Went for a walk this morning as usual and called in on the supermarket where I bought some ice cream (bad move) and fruit. Am back to pre covid daily shopping at last.

Apart from that nothing planned, no list for today. I have spent a while on the phone, first to youngest son and GF in Darwin then daughter in Japan. Well I say phone call, the latter was actually over Whatsapp. She and husband arrive back in Australia early next week. It appears that I might make a visit to Canberra shortly afterwards.

So that’s it, a weekend of rest!

Have a lovely weekend.

Take care…

Hi

Good Morning All.

Another interesting post Bruce, you have a very active life.

I am not getting on well with my new Meds, got even more and they are so strong I feel as though I am becoming a Zombie.

The stupidity of our Local and National Governments is amazing.

I have a Falls and movement alarm, they insist I use it, the stairlift and bathlift.

All installed as I am such a risk it was costing them a fortune for all the Hospital Admissions.

I am not allowed outside my house without being on wheels and being accompanied by a Carer.

I am fully self funding, so they are withdrawing my alarm services unless I pay for them.

Those who have never worked continue to get these services for free.

The UK is mad.

Good morning all!
A cold foggy start to the day with the promise of some sunshine later :sun_with_face:
I’m shortly going to be leaving for a full on nine hour shift at my favourite sports stadium! Chili junior is now on the payroll too… dream team
Have a good day forum people :+1:

Good morning!
A bit foggy & dark when I got up at about 06 - 00, but now, about 08 - 00 it has turned into a bright, clear, sunny morning, with some frost

I have a money off coupon for Farm Foods that expires tomorrow so I’ll go there and stock up
As it’s Saturday it’ll probably be busy, but somehow I didn’t get round to it earlier

Might spend the rest of the day on a bit of wood carving … though really I should go for a walk along the canal or something as it’s such a nice day - it depends on how keen I feel

Aahh - decisions, decisions!

Morning all – below freezing overnight but bright sunshine this morning, although temperatures will only reach 10c today

Birds are busy on the feeders – we are encouraged to feed garden birds here in UK Bruce, although those living near the coast do have problems with seagulls making a mess!

Well, it is official, I am a grumpy old woman! Arrived home yesterday to find a delivery van parked on my drive preventing me getting to my garage. Drivers often use my drive to turn round but this is the first time one has parked on it! Now I have a lot of sympathy for delivery drivers as I know they work to a strict timetable, however there was plenty of room on the road so why park on my drive? Had to wait for him to return from delivering to several houses before he moved it! I was not a happy bunny :rage:

Will be taking advantage of the good weather by doing some more laundry (yes I know very exciting!) and then go for a walk to the local park, funny how much friendlier people are when the sun is shining!

Take care – have a lovely day

Good March morning from Florida! Can you believe it? We’ve survived the harshest of winter and summer, hemispherically dependent with @Eliza, what a spectacular outing! That looks a little like the Van Gogh experience that was traveling around the U.S. a couple of years ago. Were you cold?

@Chili, good to see you. Is your job permanent? Interesting?

Who has decided this, Swimmy? It’s probably prudent, but can anyone really control your comings and goings?

@SheilaP, have a nice walk!

@Zulu, what are you carving?

@Bruce, buying ice cream is never a bad move :sunglasses.

The dolphins are out feeding, and I’m about to feed my own with a quiche coming out of the oven. I had better take care of that before there is a mutiny. Then, it’s back to work; I have plan to take on the paint sprayer for the first time. Meanwhile it’s sitting down there laughing, wringing it’s hands, and conspiring with my not-so-guardian angel with plans to give me a hard time. I just know it .

Have a nice Saturday!

I make knives - I buy the bare blades from suppliers then fit my own handles, which are carved & shaped from wood and other materials
Most people use power tools such as belt sanders, but I live in a flat/apartment so I use hand tools - files, rasps, and abrasive paper

I also make the sheaths, and do other leatherwork such as wallets & belts

This time I’m making a haft for a saddler’s awl, again by hand as I don’t have a lathe

If you’re interested just Search on YouTube for knife making, knife handles, knife sheaths, leatherwork, and so on.

I’ve tried spoon carving, but my hands weren’t strong enough to hold & use the knives, which is a pity.
But I used the same seasoned hardwoods that I had for the knife handles, so I probably should have used some softer wood for either spoons or simple figures
Again, Search YT to see more

On the other hand I have enough other hobbies, interests, and plans to keep me busy, so I think I’ll stay with those before looking for other distractions.

Let down a couple of his tyres. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

That looks wonderful @Eliza Sydney has a light festival called “Vivid”, I have never been but my son says it is spectacular. I have seen the Opera House lit up for various occasions which is pretty good too.

Last night was the annual Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras it was broadcast on TV but I didn’t watch, I will look at excerpts later.

Sounds an interesting hobby @zuludog . what do you do with the knives once they are made? Do you sell them?

I never think so myself but I have always had trouble sitting about, I get bored too easily I think, my only relaxation was/is reading however I do watch more TV now than I ever have, I just can’t move about Ilike I used to.

Hi Surfermom

I have a somewhat unusual set of medical conditions, which normally would result in having to live in a care home.

I am not suitable for a heart pacemaker.

I am fiercely independent and that is not for me.

I live at home,on a trial of an extended hospital at home system.

I do my own monitoring and can adjust my medication within agreed parameters.

I don’t know what the law is in the USA, here in the UK you can be detained if you are deemed to be a threat to yourself.

I have a few simple rules to follow to keep myself out of hospital and they are for my own safety.

I have good and bad days, I can enjoy the good days.

I hope this explanation helps.

That’s an extraordinary list of skills. I am always impressed when someone has talent in a specific talent and puts in the time to hone (pun intended :grinning:) their skill. That must be really satisfying work.

Swimfeeders, I know you have had your share of challenges, some from long ago. I completely understand your desire to stay at home; I am planning ahead and working on that right now.

I confess being very surprised by the UK laws on this, but I am glad you are respecting the situation so you can stay under your own roof as long as possible.
