Good Morning Saturday 1st June 2024

Good Morning fellow forumers.

I have just arrived home, funny thing was that there was absolutely none of the forecast rain, at least so far, even though the sky was pretty grey. Even set off this morning in fog but it quickly disappeared. I am finding the cold a bit much but will get used to it, it is only 15° at the moment.

Am just off to the mall to buy milk, fruit etc to stock my near empty fridge.

How are your weekend plans taking shape?

Good morning to everyone, @Bruce, are you glad or sad to be home? Probably, both? Maybe the “travel bug” may pay you a visit  I haven’t travelled much these last few years, but when we used to, I remember as soon as we got home, we just wanted to get out there again! :grinning:

Morning all
Another month done and gone & almost halfway to Christmas …hurrah

Spent yesterday at the wonderful Calshot Castle
A Tudor Fort .
Built to protect Southampton Water & The Solent from the French and the Holy Roman Empire by Henry VIII . The Fort has a long and interesting history, finally closing in the 1960s.

Good morning all!
The sun is breaking through as we wait for the bus to whizz us down to Brighton very shortly.
Goodbye to the olde worlde charms of Crawley Towne for just a little while.

Fun, frolics, mirth and merriment in abundance!

Have a good day people! :sun_with_face::+1:

Good morning. A brighter and dryer day than yesterday.Trying to decide whether to leave our mini-meadow like this or mow it down. It’s been about 5 weeks since it was last cut.

Morning all – sunny day today, has summer eventually arrived? :sunglasses:

Welcome home Bruce – relax for a while before planning your next adventure

Neighbours invited me out for dinner last night – had a lovely time, except they again refused to let me at least pay my share. I thought we had sorted this the last time we went out together. Today they are taking me along with them when they visit a large shopping centre – which I have yet to find my way to. Perhaps they will let me pay for lunch – or at least coffee!

I may have to stop being friends with the female of the couple – she admitted last night that not only does she like pineapple on pizza but she also drinks decaf coffee!! :astonished:

Finished the book I was reading – not impressed very formulaic with an unsatisfying ending – won’t be buying any more books by that author. When we get back from the shopping centre I may sit in the sun and start one of the James Patterson books I bought at the “old” peoples club!

Well, Mart we have just finished “no mow May” so you do have an excuse!

I am impressed with the photos you all post - I don’t have any idea how to do that and have no-one to show me (it’s OK you can stop sobbing now!)

Take care – have a great day everyone

Yes! I love no-mow May but not as much as the bees do!

Mart, I expect the insects have no complaints about your landscaping :grinning:.

Your little jaunt to Brighton looked quite fun! It’s enjoyable getting to know your country town by town.I hope the bus ride home is pleasant and scenic.

Christmas already? :weary: :weary: :weary:

What an interesting place with a fascinating history! It’s incredible tl think of being near a place that was envisioned so long ago. Thanks for sharing!

Welcome home! I am sure it looked good to you. Nothing like that first night’s sleep in your own bed after time away.

The reason you did not get the rain is that is wandered its way around here. That means a prescription of having my head down in storage boxes all day. Fun, fun!

Save travels and cozy days at home, everyone!

It’s Tudor? I thought it looked Napoleonic - which just shows how much I know about castles.

The rain came in the late afternoon but when I checked my rain gauge this morning there was only 43mm in it, even if some evaporated that is not much for the whole of May even allowing for autumn/winter being the driest period of the year

Yep folks, winter arrived today.!

As always, its like those scary rides at the fun fair, you can’t wait to get off but as soon as it is over you want to get straight back on again.

I enjoyed myself but am thinking that was the last of my long drives, I think in future a week or 10 days will be enough.

If I left my grass for 5 weeks in the summer it would be waist deep.

Yes I know what you mean, Calshot is similar in design to many forts and battery lines built to keep out the French in the 1800s .
However Calshot has been used continuously until the 1960s being altered and extended over the years.
Henry V111 built many artillery castles , Deal being a great example.
I suppose if the design works you don’t fix it
