Good Morning Saturday, 14th December 2024

Good morning fellow over 50 chatters.

Another warm, if a bit too humid, day. I was up early and soon on a quick walk to the supermarket for milk and other “essentials”.

On my return found my daughter up and getting ready for her 4x4 competition. She was in her Jimney not the Patrol with its absurd engine. It’s the same Jimney that she used on our trip to Camerons Corner.

Anyway, once I bid her farewell and good luck I decided to prepare one of the spare bedrooms for my grandkids and their family’s Christmas stay (from next Friday - Christmas is terrifyingly close)

After vacuuming I discovered that the beds still had the winter doonas so had to dig out all the summer ones. It is not a difficult task making beds except this room has one of those bunk beds with a double bed base and a single upper bunk which for me is “tricky”.

Anyway, cutting a tedious story short, eventually completed the task after working up a good sweat so decided the have an OxyContin tablet (just in case) and a cold drink. Now 15 minutes later can’t decide whether to have another beer or a nice lie down. Oh, decisions, decisions!

I want to be in tip top condition for this evening as we are going to the local club for dinner.

Well, it’s the weekend, what are you folks getting up to?

Take care…

Good morning everyone from rainy South Italy. We may finally see the sun again from tomorrow, it’s getting too cold though, I know I shouldn’t complain, Northern Europe’s much colder, but I think as years go by I just become less tolerant of cold weather but also of the extreme heat we get in the Summer
@Bruce, you just brought me down memory lane, talking about your daughter’s Jimney. Many years ago, they were very popular here and we were considering buying one of those, I don’t remember why we changed our minds, perhaps because we wanted something bigger, so opted for a Nissan X trail instead as we used to often get snow in those days and we had decided we needed a 4x4.Guess what? It never ever snowed during the years we had the Trail and as soon as we sold it, it started snowing again
Thank you for sharing your trip review, I’ll read that in a moment.

A good weekend to all forum friends.

Morning all – brighter day today with sunshine promised

Hope your daughter does well Bruce

Local TV reported last night that the majority of homes have now had their power restored after the storm last weekend – although there are still about 40 properties left which will hopefully have power restored today. Some businesses are still using generators

Finally got around to writing my Christmas cards yesterday (late? me? :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:), bought some Christmas gifts just a couple left to get and they will be wrapped today (hopefully). :gift: Still haven’t decided what to get for myself. When my husband died he made me promise to buy myself birthday and Christmas gifts from him

Will be taking advantage of the slightly better weather to get some laundry done and out on the line

Take care – have a lovely day

Good morning - A brighter day with a temperature of 7ºC (10.25 A.M.). Our daughter arrived from Spain last night. A good long visit of 3 weeks this time. She is staying with our son at night but spending most of the time here.

Contracts on my my brother’s (R.I.P.) house happened yesterday. The sale will be completed at noon on Monday. A happy but also somewhat sad event.

Might do a bit of tidying up in the garden while the weather is OK. I like to get rid of all the dead stuff before Christmas because I find it’s only a short time afterwards that things start growing again. Good if they have a clear pitch.

Have a good day

Good Morning from Foxy’s World… :sunny:
An early morning dash to Tesco for the weekend fresh stuff but a lazy day planned…Well it is a rest day. Although the Yorkshire flag on top of the garage that went up on Yorkshire day is extremely tattered, so Mrs Fox has ironed a brand new England flag, so out will come the ladders later.
Sunny and cold here this morning 4 degrees C, but weatherman says it is going to warm up tomorrow and the rest of the week, but that might mean some rain.
I used to like those Suzuki Jimney’s Bruce but we were dashing down the 300 miles to Southampton regularly with our friends for cruises and didn’t think they would be big enough or up to the long drive, so it was a Nissan Qashqai instead.
I’m the same as you Rose, don’t like the cold weather anymore and would consider visiting Italy for the winter…Perhaps not now though after saying it’s cold there too…
It’s great to see the Robins and Blackbirds at this time of year Eliza, I always keep the bird bath clean and topped up and they are both regular visitors coming for a good scrub as well as the collared Doves, they don’t half make a mess…
Mrs Fox takes care of all the admin Sheila, If anything ever happened to her nobody would get a card from me, but Mrs Fox was complaining about the cost of stamps these days, so the people who live faraway might just get a text next year…
I bet that’s a load off your mind Mart, I was glad to have sold my parents house when they both passed away, still very sad but was glad of relieving us of the responsibility, especially at wintertime…

I have to do something today I’m not going to be happy doing.
I work with a neighbor that lives a few places down from me.
She (Lisa) walked up to me last Monday, at work and was crying. I was thinking, why is she crying, I haven’t even talked to her yet.
Any way, Sue, a friend of hers and acquaintance of mine, I’ve had a few business dealings with and a person I liked. I liked her because she had a direct type of personality, which I like a respect. Anyway Sue landlord called Lisa saying Sue has not paid her rent. So Lisa went over there and found what no one wants to find.
Sue has had 3 surgeries in the last couple of months and wasn’t doing to good. Lisa called the police and and said she was there for about 10 days.
Sues relatives live up in Connecticut and are not moving very fast on taking care of things.
In short the police are done with their part and the landlord want the apartment back. We have to go there and load everything up in my trailer and take where ever Lisa decides.
The landlord said it smells awful. That doesn’t bother me I’ve dealt with worse, it just all the crying that is going to happen and trying to get answers form people that are crying. I’m pretty much deaf and have a problem understanding people when they speak clearly.
I just want to get out n and out as quickly as possible.
I’m just hoping it’s not going to be as bad as I think it may be.

Good crisp morning from Florida!

@Robin1, the situation of your friend is weight heavy on me this morning. Lisa or the family should get in touch with the doctor’s office who should be able to line up a social worker to help out with Sue’s living situation. It’s good of you to help, but I can’t quite understand how things deteriorated without the family stepping in until now. I am very sorry for your friend and acquaintance.

@Bruce that is a snazzy family setup! What a fantastic way to see the country and spend some time together without the distractions of technology. Thanks for your link, too. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable travel log.

@Rose we likewise altered the climate buying an SUV several years ago. I wanted a heavier vehicle to traverse snow and icy roads, but I’m fairly sure that the invoice was sent to Mother Nature, who provided years of snow-free days, as a result. I’m with @OGF; if I was wintering somewhere, I’d make a beeline for Italy, but if I was summering…I’d head there too! God was in one fine mood when he created Italy and it’s little sister, California ,

@mart I imagine you have mixed feelings about the sale of your brother’s house, but I am pleased that the hard work is behind you.

@QuintESensual , good luck with all tha magnetism! As it happens, the moon and Jupiter are close together tonight. When you can peel the ladies away, take a look outside at the sky tonight where you will find Pleiades, the moon, and Jupiter in close proximity.

Nothing much to see here today; I’m off to purchase some canvases and ship off a few Christmas gifts, before setting up camp in front of the easel today.

Have a lovely day!

Hope you can manage to get through it all , being there for your friend Lisa is thoughtful of you .

The older ones like hers are very trendy among some enthusiasts, there are clubs just for Jimney owners.

That one has had several engines, not because there was anything wrong with them but just searching for the perfect one. My son in law is always buying and selling engines for their various cars.

The problem with the older models like hers is the lack of a long range fuel tank, like electric cars the owners suffer from range anxiety. On one trip from Tibooburra to Broken Hill I think she had half a litre left in the tank by the time we got to e servo.

My youngest son’s friend used a Jimney on our family trip to Uluru and had to stop at every roadhouse for fuel - on that trip my daughter and her husband used the Patrol with its 6 litre V8 (you see what I mean about my son in law and engines, not for him the standard 3 litre diesel)

A great line up of durable SUV’s Bruce. A bit overkill for South Yorkshire, but if I had the space and money I would be like your son in law and shake up a few classics…
:+1:

There’s some 4WD hanky panky going on in Australian garages (at least I hope it’s in garages and not shockingly in driveways) when no one is looking.

The last time you posted, Bruce, there were only two. :astonished:

Nice batch of very useful vehicles!

From the left my son Andrew’s best friend and his Jimney, then my Dmax, then my daughter and her husband’s Patrol and finally on the right Andrew’s Nissan Navara.

My daughter also has a Jimney which was in the other photo and a Suburu WRX Sportswagon TSI plus half a dozen motorbikes, her husband also has a BMW and even more motorcycles. They seem to like transportation.

Edit: I forgot to say that the photo was taken near a roadhouse outside Woomera in SA at a place called Pimba. You’re in the desert there, the next stop was Coober Pedy on our way to Uluru. It is in the middle of the Woomera Restricted Zone - you are forbidden to leave the highway - it is where they used to test rockets and missles in the 1950s. (and atomic bombs - of course it was perfectly safe)
