Good Morning Saturday 11th January 2025

Good morning - I got out of bed with great reluctance this morning. I knew the house would be cold …and so it was. Forced myself in the end an up and about now. The outside temperature is -4ºC at 9.25 A.M in not so sunny Surrey (it is actually sunny at the moment).

Some house cleaning will be done this morning, then some TV watching this afternoon. Friends are coming here for a curry this evening. Have to prepare the table early evening to look like that of a restaurant.

That’s about if for me. Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning!
Dry, bright, clear & sunny but very cold

I haven’t Posted for a few days as I’ve got a bit of a cold - not serious, just sniffly & annoying, but I feel slightly better this morning

A few days ago - was it Monday? - when we had snow I drove to a supermarket and stocked up on food & whisky
Then two things happened - I started with this cold, and the weather became very cold
In fact it is very cold & icy with snow & heavy frost on the ground & the cars, so I’ve been indoors since then

Fortunately I have loads of food in so I’ve been spending my time in bed trying to read, or well wrapped sitting in my comfy chair watching TV
I expect that like most people now I’m waiting for the warmer weather.

EDIT, about an hour later –
I’ve just looked up the weather forecast on t’Net for my area
It’s supposed to be warmer by Tuesday or Wednesday, and for the next week or so
I’m sure I can survive until then

Morning All… :shopping_cart:
It looks like a scene from ‘Doctor Zhivago’ this morning with the temperature at minus 4 C…
The woman’s car across the road hasn’t been moved since it snowed and now it’s engulphed in a thick frost. Her drive never gets the sun in winter…

Beautiful sunrise though as we made our way back from the Tesco early on, and by the amount of steam billowing from Drax power station, it’s working on full power this morning.
Mrs Fox is just drying her hair and making herself look pretty (I’m not saying a word :face_with_hand_over_mouth:) after showering, I’m going to take her for some steak pie at a garden centre in half an hour…

Great minds think alike Chilli, I’ve never grown a beard in my life, and aren’t keen on them at all. But I haven’t shaved for a few days and I’ll see what develops…Here’s work in progress…

Drax power station is ten miles away from Foxy’s house, and here it is on full burn…

Electricity Supplys

Drax is currently supplying 6% of our electricity. It’s been converted from coal to biomass that helps to make your bills a lot more expensive. It sits on over 300 years of coal, but the biomass is shipped from Canada.
Gas powered stations are doing the heavy lifting in this cold weather (57%) with 14% being bought in from abroad.
forget the 2% of solar power as night draws in, but it’s okay to plug in all your electric cars after work… :009:
Who actually is in charge of our energy? Because they sure as hell don’t care about the citizens of the UK.

Great minds indeed Foxy :+1:

I used the big clippers up on top and then set the new beardy ones to zero for my first attempt which actually leaves some stubble although it’s not very clear in the picture. In a day or so I should have the desired effect.

Must make a note to myself to remind me to get out more, or perhaps we should start a beardy topic :+1:

My first wife never saw me without a beard, my second wife never saw me with one. As a shift worker I often went a few days with out shaving and the latter would remark," You look like a beggar".

Since divorcing her I have regrown a beard, shaving is such a waste of time. Every few weeks I get my clippers with a #2 spacer (is that what they are called?) and run it over my entire head.

That’s steam (strictly speaking water vapour) in your photo, these days, if there was visible smoke there would be hell to pay. I have only worked at one powerhouse that made smoke and that was over 40 years ago. Pyrmont Power Station in the heart of Sydney, it still had electrolytic precipitators rather than a bag house to collect the fine ash so it did make smoke even though the precipitators collected the majority of the ash.

The suburb was actually very fertile because acid was sprayed into the gas before the precipitator to aid clumping and an alkaline sprayed in afterwards to neutralise it - the result was a fertiliser. Occasionally things would go wrong and the washing on the local lines would end up as rags when the alkaline spray failed.

The site now is the Star Casino.

Ah, men, here’s a woman’s take on the beard trends today:
@Chilliboot @OldGreyFox @Bruce
Nothing more masculine than a gent’s smooth face. One can admire the jaw line, shape of the face, touch lightly to stroke, and look around you…
Every man 50 or over looks just alike when cheeks, chin, lips are covered by hair.
Nothing sexy about it at all. Even George Clooney should shave every day.

Hard to improve on perfection Chilli…

I tend to agree with your second wife Bruce. I think I look too much like a vagrant at the moment, unless it develops into something handsome I think it’s days are numbered.

That’s true Bruce, and I think most people mistake it for pollution… :009:

Thanks RN, you have confirmed what I have always thought. Alas, I’m no George Clooney and may be a disappointment with or without the facial hair RM… :anguished:
Mrs Fox was once asked by her friend “How come you married an ugly bloke?” She replied…“Well he’ll be out at work all day, and he’s a hard worker so I’ll only see him in the dark”… :open_mouth:

I went the other way round. Had a full beard for years when I was younger but shaved it off when I got older…

Your take on beards is a bit unusual, and if I may say, YUCK!!!

You men are very handsome with smooth shaven faces! Even now, older and yet still pleasing to look at.
I’m not buttering anyone up, it’s simply a fact. I bet I’m not the only lady here who appreciates this.

Dear Gentlemen of the Forum,

It is a little-known fact to men but a universally-known fact by women that the two things on the planet that women find the sexiest to watch is when men proudly hold their baby daughters and granddaughters - and when they shave :razor: :face_in_clouds:.

Just saying. :sunglasses:,

Bingo. Awarded the “Gentleman” Badge with The first fact.
Alas. Redelegated to “Yob” By the second.

Nope, the pollution is quite invisible, there will be plenty of that.

The great thing at my age is that I am long past caring. Once you are over 60 you are invisible anyway.

You are never invisible to the people who count, and care about you.
The rest don’t matter.
